When David's wife had blamed him for dancing before the ark, he told her, It was before the Lord, &c. I will play before the Lord, and I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own sight.-2 Sam. vi. 20-22.

When king David sat in his house, and the Lord had given him rest round about from all his enemies; the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now I dwell in an house of cedar; but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains, &c.-2 Sam. vii. 1-5.

Uriah said unto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord are encamped in the open field; shall I then go into mine house to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? &c. I will not do this thing.-2 Sam. xi. 11.

I have kept the ways of the Lord, and have not wickedly departed from my God: for all his judgments were before me and as for his statutes, I did not depart from them. I was also upright before (or to) him: and have kept myself from mine iniquity.

And David's heart smote him, after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto the Lord, I have sinned greatly, &c. And the Lord sent a pestilence upon Israel for it, &c. When Josiah heard the book of the law, he rent his clothes, &c. and his heart was tender, &c.-2 Kings xxii. 11. 13. 18, 19. Ezra ix. 4.

Esther, when the Jews were in danger by Haman, ventured her life, and all for their security; she said, Go fast ye for me, &c. I also, and my maidens will fast likewise: and so will I go unto the king, which is not according to the law; and if I perish, I perish.-Esther iv. 16.

Job, a man perfect and upright, one that feareth God, escheweth evil. Job i. 1. 8. xxxi. 13, &c. xxix. 12, 13.

His delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night; he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water. --Ps. i. 2, 3. xcii. 12-14. Job xxiii. 12.

Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? and who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands and a pure heart; who hath not lift up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully, &c. This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, &c.-Ps. xxiv. 3—6. xv. 1, 2.

I have loved the habitation of thy house, and the place where thine honour dwelleth.-Ps. xxvi. 8.

Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek. ---Ps. xxvii. 8.

The righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth &c. is ever merciful and lendeth, &c. The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment: the law of his God is in his heart.-Ps. xxxvii. 21. 26. 30--32. cxii. 5.

My tongue also shall talk of thy righteousness all the day long.-Ps. lxxi. 24. cxix. 46.

How amiable are thy tabernacles, O Lord, &c. My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the Lord: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God, &c. For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand: I had rather be a door-keeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.-Ps. lxxxiv. 1, 2. 10.

Thou shalt arise and have mercy upon Zion, &c. for thy servants take pleasure in her stones, and favour the dust thereof.-Ps. cii. 13, 14.

He shall not be afraid of evil tidings; his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord. Ps. cxii. 7.

I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies as much as in all riches,

I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.-Ps. cxxii. 1.

If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, &c. If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.-Ps. cxxxvii. 5, 6. lxxiv. 1, &c. cxxii. 6.

I hate them that hate thee; am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?-Ps. cxxxix. 21, 22. cxix. 53. 126. 136. 158.

I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works; and men shall speak of the might of thy terrible acts, and I will declare thy greatness. They shall abundantly utter the memory of thy great goodness; and shall sing of thy righteousness, &c. Thy saints shall bless thee; they shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom, and talk of thy power; to make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his kingdom.-Ps. cxlv. 5-7.10-12.

The path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.-Prov. iv. 18.

The fear of the Lord is to hate evil, pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way. Prov. viii. 13.

A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast.-Prov. xii. 10.

seeing evil; he shall dwell on high, &c.-Isa. xxxiii. 15, 16.

I remember, &c. the love of thine espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilderness, &c.-Jer. ii. 2.

When the king asked Daniel thus: Art thou able to make known unto me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation thereof? Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded, cannot the wise men, &c. shew unto the king? But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king, &c.-Dan. ii. 26-28.

Then they that feared the Lord, spake often one to another; and the Lord hearkened and heard, &c.-Mal. iii. 16. Matt. xiii. 51, 52.

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven, Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, &c. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peace-makers, for they shall be called the children of God. He that loveth father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me : and he that loveth son or daughter more than me, is not worthy of me: and he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.-Matt. x. 37, 38. xvi. 24. Luke xiv. 33. Ps. xlv. 10, 11.

He that is not with me, is against me: and he that gathereth not with me, scattereth abroad.-Matt. xii. 30.

He that' walketh righteously, and The kingdom of heaven is like unto speaketh uprightly, he that despiseth a treasure hid in a field, the which the gain of oppression, that shaketh when a man hath found, he hideth, his hands from holding of bribes; that and for joy thereof, goeth and selleth stoppeth his ears from hearing of all that he hath, and buyeth that field. blood, and shutteth his eyes from Matt. xiii. 44. Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.-Matt. xviii. 3, 4. Zachariaswas righteous before God, walking in all the commandments of the Lord blameless.-Luke i. 5, 6. The woman to whom much was forgiven, loved Christ much.-Luke vii. 37, 38. 45-47.

If I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.-Luke xix. 8.

When Andrew had found Christ himself, he tells his brother Simon, and brings him to Jesus; Philip tells Nathanael and leads him to Jesus.John i. 40-45. iv. 28, 29.

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again (or from above) he cannot see the kingdom of God, &c. Except a man be born of water, and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit, &c. Every one that doeth evil, hateth the light, &c. But he that doeth truth, cometh unto the light, that his deeds may be made manifest that they are wrought in God.-John iii. 3. 5, 6. 20, 21.

John was a burning and a shining light, &c. Ye have not his word abiding in you; for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.-John v. 35. 38.

Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life.-John vi. 68.

If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed, &c. If ye were Abraham's children, you would do the works of Abraham, &c. If God were your Father, ye would love me; for I proceeded forth and came from God, &c. He that is of God, heareth God's words; ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.-John viii. 31. 39. 42. 47. 1 John ii. 24. 2 John 9.

sheep follow him, for they know his voice; and a stranger they will not follow, but will flee from him, for they know not the voice of strangers, &c. I know my sheep, and am known of mine, &c. My sheep hear my voice, &c. and they follow me.-John x. 3 -5. 14. 27.

Jesus said, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head, &c. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.-John xiii. 8. 35.

If ye love me, keep my commandments, &c. He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me, &c. If a man love me, he will keep my words.-John xiv. 15. 21. 23. xv. 14.

Every branch in me that beareth not fruit, he taketh away, and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit, &c. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.-John xv. 2. 16. 18, 19.

The world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I, &c.-John xvii. 14.

Ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, &c.—John xvi. 20.

Every one that is of the truth, heareth my voice.-John xviii. 37, viii. 37. 47.

They were pricked in their heart, and said, Men and brethren, What shall we do?-Acts ii. 37. xvi. 30.

When they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. We cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.-Acts iv. 13. 20.

Saul, when Christ came to him, The sheep hear his voice, &c. The and converted him, said, Lord, what

wilt thou have me to do?—Acts ix. 6. ii. 37, &c. xvi. 30, &c.

God is no respecter of persons; but in every nation, he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.-Acts x. 34, 35.

When the priest of Jupiter would have done sacrifice to the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out, and saying, Sirs, Why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you; and preach unto you, that ye should turn from these vanities, unto the living God. Acts xiv. 13-15. iii. 12, 13.

Apollos, that eloquent man, was content to learn the way of God more perfectly of Aquila and Priscilla, tent makers. Acts xviii. 24-26.

Many that believed, came and confessed, and shewed their deeds. Many also of them which used curious arts, brought their books together, and burned them; and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.-Acts xix. 18, 19. None of these things move me; neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry which I have received.-Acts xx. 24.

I am ready, not to be bound only, but also to die for the name of the Lord Jesus. Acts xxi. 13.

I wist not that he was the high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler, &c.-Acts xxiii. 4, 5.

ing that tribulation worketh patience, &c. The love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost.Rom. v. 3. 5.

How shall we that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? &c. Ye were the servants of sin; but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you: being made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.-Rom. vi. 2. 17, 18.

That which I do, I allow not: what I would, that I do not, but what I bate, that do I, &c. I consent unto the law, that it is good: now then, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me, &c. To will is present with me, &c. The good that I would, I do not, &c. I find then a law, that when I would do good, evil is present with me: for I delight in the law of God, after the inward man; but I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, &c.

O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me? &c. I thank God, through Jesus, &c. So, then, with my mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh, the law of sin.-Rom. vii. 15–25.

There is therefore no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus; who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit, &c. For they that are after the flesh, do mind the things of the flesh: but they that are after the Spirit, the things of the Spirit, &c. If any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his: and if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness, &c. many as are led by the Spirit of God, are the sons of God: for ye have not received the spirit of bondage again

As

Paul confesseth freely thus: I verily thought with myself, that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus. Which thing I also did in Jerusalem; and many of the saints did I shut up in prison, &c. and being exceeding mad against them, I per- to fear, but ye have received the secuted them, &c. I would to God, that not only thou, but also all that hear me, &c. were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds. Acts xxvi. 9-11. 29. Gal. i. 13. Acts xxii. 19. 22.

We glory in tribulations also, know

Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry Abba, Father, &c. We ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body, &c.-Rom. viii. 1. 5. 9, 10. 14, 15. 23.

I have great heaviness, and con

tinual sorrow in my heart, &c. for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh, &c.-Rom. ix. 2, 3. x. 1.

The kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. For he that in these things serveth Christ, is acceptable to God, and, &c. -Rom. xiv. 17, 18.

The preaching of the cross, is to them that perish, foolishness: but unto us, which are saved, it is the power of God, &c. Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling-block, &c. but unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.1 Cor. i. 18. 23, 24.

Such were some of you, but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, &c.-1 Cor. vi. 11.

may be accepted of him, &c. Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men, &c. The love of Christ constraineth us, &c. If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.2 Cor. v. 2. 4. 8, 9. 11. 14. 17. Phil.

i. 21. 23.

Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates, &c. We can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth.2 Cor. xiii. 5. 8.

When it pleased God, &c. to reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him, &c. immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood.-Gal. i. 15, 16.

I am crucified with Christ; nevertheless, I live: yet not I, but Christ liveth in me.-Ġal. ii. 20.

The works of the flesh are manifest, That no man can say that Jesus is which are these, adultery, &c. But the the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.- fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,

Though I speak with the tongues of men, and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal: and though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries,and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing: and though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.-1 Cor. xiii. 1-3. We, beholding, &c. the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image, &c.by the Spirit.-2 Cor.iii.18. We having the same Spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken: we also believe, and therefore speak.-2 Cor. iv. 13. Ps. cxvi, 10. Acts iv. 20.

In this we groan earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house from heaven, &c. that mortality might be swallowed up of life. We are willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord: wherefore we labour, that whether present, &c. we

long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: and they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh, with the affections (or passions) and lusts.--Gal. v. 19-24.

God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom (or whereby) the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world; for in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, &c. but a new creature.-Gal. vi. 14, 15.

This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their minds, &c. But ye have not so learned Christ: if so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus. -Eph. iv. 17-21.

For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord : walk as children of light, for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth.-Eph. v. 8, 9.

Some preach Christ out of envy and strife, &c. What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is
