OH that the Lord's salvation
Were out of Zion come;
To heal his ancient nation,

To lead his outcasts home?
How long the holy city

Shall heathen feet profane?
Return, O Lord, in pity;
Rebuild her walls again.
2. Let fall thy rod of terror,

Thy saving grace impart :
Roll back the vail of error,
Release the fetter'd heart:
Let Israel, home returning,

Her lost Messiah see; Give oil of joy for mourning, And bind thy church to thee. Lyte.

Watts. T. 151.

HAIL to the Lord's Anointed!

Great David's greater Son!
Hail, in the time appointed,
His reign on earth begun!
He comes to break oppression,
To set the captive free;
To take away transgression,
And rule in equity.

2. He shall come down like showers
Upon the fruitful earth:
And joy and hope, like flowers,
Spring in his path to birth:

Before him, on the mountains,
Shall peace, the herald, go:
And righteousness, in fountains,
From hill to valley flow.

3. Arabia's desert-ranger
To him shall bow the knee;
The Ethiopian stranger
His glory come to see:
With offerings of devotion

Ships from the isles shall meet, To pour the wealth of ocean

In tribute at his feet.

4. Kings shall fall down before him, And gold and incense bring; All nations shall adore him,

His praise all people sing: For he shall have dominion O'er river, sea, and shore, Far as the eagle's pinion,

Or dove's light wing can soar. 5. For him shall prayer unceasing And daily vows ascend; His kingdom still increasing,A kingdom without end: The mountain-dew shall nourish

A seed in weakness sown, Whose fruit shall spread and And shake like Lebanon.

6. O'er every foe victorious,

From many an ancient river,
From many a palmy plain,
They call us to deliver

Their land from error's chain.
2. Shall we, whose souls are lighted
With wisdom from on high,
Shall we to men benighted

The lamp of life deny? Salvation! O salvation!

The joyful sound proclaim, Till earth's remotest nation

Has learn'd Messiah's name.
3. Waft, waft, ye winds, his story,
And you, ye waters, roll,
Till like a sea of glory,

It spreads from pole to pole;
Till o'er our ransom'd nature
The Lamb for sinners slain,
Redeemer, King, Creator,
In bliss returns to reign.

XXXVII. THE HOLY COMMUNION

768.*

T. 107. LORD Jesus, who before thy passion,

Distress'd and sorrowful to death,
To us the fruits of thy oblation
In thy last supper didst bequeath;
Accept our praise, thou bounteous
Giver

Of life to every true believer.

Each sacred token doth declare Thy dying love, all thoughts surpassing;

And while we thee in memory bear

At each returning celebration, We show thy death for our salvation.

With thy atoning blood bedew'd; That stream from all defilement And life abundantly dispenses. cleanses,
