work of these three compilers, the task of producing the present index would have been one of the greatest difficulty, and to them are due most cordial thanks for their zeal and its results.

The compiling of the present index, covering as it does the subject-matter of sixty years' Transactions, will be of great value, it is hoped, to the readers, whether members or non-members. The work does not claim to be exhaustive. Doubtless there are many items which it would have been desirable to include; but the Committee considered that what has been done would sufficiently meet the requirements, and the expense of producing a more complete index would have been very considerable.

The present Index gives a full list of the Presidents and Secretaries of the Club, an alphabetical list of the places of the Club Field-days, a list of all the contributors to articles in the Transactions, a detailed index of all matters of interest, and a classified list of illustrations. During these later years the illustrations have been much more numerous than formerly, owing to the facility of the process-block reproduction and the generosity of those who have supplied the pictures.

The work of the Woolhope Club, confined at first to the realm of natural history, has gone over the wider fields of archaeology and topography and has included many valuable historical notices; and the Club may congratulate itself upon having upon_having gathered together a plenteous harvest from which future Countyhistorians will be able to draw freely and thankfully. The Club has made an honourable record; on its membership roll there have been many notable names. It has been blessed with men of capacity and zeal, who have done much for the welfare of the Club and have devoted themselves gladly to promote its best interests. It may be invidious to mention names : let the reader search through the lists of contributors or examine the Transactions themselves, and he will see that Herefordshire may well be proud of its Woolhope Club.

It would have been interesting to have enlarged upon its history and the work that it has accomplished, but to have done this would have caused further delay which was not desirable, so that the compiler of this index prefers to leave the Transactions to disclose throughout its pages the interesting records of the Club.

With sincere apologies for any errors which may be found in this compilation, the General Index of sixty years' work of the Woolhope Naturalists' Field Club is here presented, with the desire that the Club may steadfastly pursue its useful course and be true to its motto, "Hope on, Hope ever."
