Jofeph is hated of his brethren : 5 his two dreams: 18 his brethren canfpire his death; 36 he is fold to Potiphar in Egypt.

Nd Jacob dwelt in the land wherein his

A father was a firanger, in the land of

Canaan.

2 Thefe are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being feventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren; and the lad was with the fons of Bilhah, and with the fons of Zilpah, his fathers wives: and Jofeph brought unto his father their evil report.

3 Now Ifrael loved Jofeph more than all his children, because he was the fon of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours. 4 And when his brethren faw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.

5 And Jofeph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet

the more.

6 And he faid unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed:

? For, behold, we were binding theaves in the field, and, lo, my theaf arofe, and alfoftood upright; and, behold, your theaves flood round about, and made obeifance to my theaf.

8 And his brethren faid to him, shalt thou indeed reign over us? or thalt thouindeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words.

9 And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and faid, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the fun, and the moon, and the eleven ftars, made obeifance to me.

10. And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and faid unto him, What is this dream that thou Laft dreaned? Shell 1, and thy mother, and thy brethren, indeed come to bow down our felves to thee to the earth?

11 And his brethren envied hira; but his father obferved the faying.

12 And his brethren went to feed their fathers flock in Shechem.

13 And Ifrael faid unto Jofeph, Do not thy brethren feed the flock in Shechem? come, and I will fend thee unto them. And he faid unto him, Here am 1.

14 And he faid to him, Go, I pray thee, fee whether it be well with thy brethren, and well with the flocks; and bring me word again. So he feat him out of the vale of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.

151 Anda certain man found him, and, behold, he was wandering in the field: and the man alked him, faying, What feekeft thou?

16 And he faid, I feek my brethren: tell me, I pray thee, where they seed their flocks. 17 And the man faid, They are departed hence: for 1 heard them fay, Let us go to Dothan. And Jofeph went after his brethren, and found them in Dothan.

18 And when they faw him afar off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to flay him.

19 And they faid one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh,

20 Come now, therefore, and let us flay him, and caft him into fome pit; and we will fay, Some evil beat hath devoured him: and we fhall fee what will become of his dreams.

21 And Reuben heard it, and he delivered him out of their hands; and faid, Let us not kill him.

22 And Reuben faid unto them, Shed no blood, but caft him into this pit that is in the wildernefs, and lay no hand upon him; that he might rid him out of their hands, to deliver him to his father again.

23 And it came to pafs, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they ftripped Jofeph out of his coat, his coat of many colours, that was on him.

24 And they took him, and caft him into a pit: and the pit was empty, there was no water in it.

25 And they fat down to eat bread: and they lifted up their eyes, and looked, and, behold, a company of Ihmeelites came from Gilead, with their camels bearing fpicery, and balm, and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt.

26 And Judah faid unto his brethren, What profit is it if we flay our brother, and conccal

his blood?

27 Come, and let us fell him to the Ifhmeelites, and let not our hand be upon him; for he is our brother, and our flesh; and his bre

thren were content.

28 Then there paffed by Midianites, merchant-men; and they drew and lifted up Jofeph out of the pit, and fold Jofeph to the Ihmeelites for twenty pieces of tilver: and they brought Jofeph into Egypt.

29 And Reuben returned unto the pit; and, behold, Jofeph was not in the pit: and he rent his clothes.

30 And he returned unto his brethren, and faid, The child is not; and I, whither thall I go?

31 And they took Jofephs coat, and killed a kid of the goats, and dipped the coat in the blood:

32 And they fent the coat of many colours, and they brought it to their father; and faid, This have we found: know now whether it be thy fons coat or no.

33 And he knew it, and faid, It is my fons coat; an evil beaft hath devoured him: Jofeph is without doubt rent in pieces.

34 And Jacob rent his clothes, and put fackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his fon many days.

35 And all his fons, and all his daughters, rofe up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted; and he faid, For I will go down into the grave unto my fon mourning. Thus his father wept for him.

36 And the Midianites fold him into Egypt unto Potiphar, an officer of Pharaohs, and captain of the guard.

5 And it came to pass, from the time that he had made him overfeer in his houfe, and over all that he had, that the LORD bieffed the Egyptians houfe for Jofephs fake: and the bleffing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the houfe, and in the field.

3 And, behold, feven other kine came up after thein out of the river, ill-favoured and lean-flethed; and flood by the other kine, upon the brink of the river.

4 And the ill-favoured and Jean-flefhed kine did eat up the feven well-favoured and fat kine. So Pharaoh awoke.

5 And he slept, and dreamed the fecond time: and, behold, feven ears of eorn came up upon one talk, rank and good.

6 And, behold, feven thin ears, and blafted with the east wind, fprung up after them.

7 And the feven thin ears devoured the feven rank and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream.

8 And it came to pals in the morning that his fpirit was troubled; and he fent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wife men thereof: and Pharaoh told them his dream; but there was none that could interpret them nato Pharaoh.

9 Then ipake the chief butler unto Pharaoh, faying, I do remember my faults this day.

10 Pharaoh was wroth with his fervants, and put me in ward in the captain of the guards houfe, both me and the chief baker.

II And we dreamed a dream in one night, 1 and he: we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream.

12 And there was there with us a young man, an Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams: to each man according to his dream he did interpret.

13 And it came to pafs, as he interpreted to us, fo it was: me he reftored unto mine office, and him he hanged.

14 Then Pharaoh fent and called Jofeph, and they brought him hattily out of the dungeon: and he haved himfelf, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh.

15 And Pharaoh faid unto Jofeph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that Can interpret it: and I have heard fay of thee, that thou canst understand a dream to interpret it.

16 And Jofeph anfwered Pharaoh, faying, It is not in me: God thail give Pharaoh an anfwer of peace.

17 And Pharaoh faid unto Jofeph, In my dream, behold, I ttood upon the bank of the river:

18 And, behold, there came up out of the river feven kine, fat-flethed, and well-favoured; and they fed in a meadow:

19 And, behold, feven other kine came up after them, poor, and very ill-favoured, and lean-flethed, fuch as I never faw in all the land of Egypt for badness:

20 And the lean and the ill-favoured kine did eat up the first feyen fat kine...

21 And when they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them; but they were ill-favoured, as at the beginning. So I awoke.

22 And I faw in my dream, and, behold, fe ven ears came up in one talk, full and good: 23 And, behold, feven ears, withered, thin, and blafted with the east wind, fprung up after them:

24 And the thin ears devoured the feven good ears. And I told this unto the magi cians; but there was none that could declare it to me.

25 And Jofeph faid unto Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one: God hath thewed. Pharaoh what he is about to do.

26 The feven good kine are seven years: and the feven good ears are feven years: the dream is one.

27 And the feven thin and ill-favoured kine that came up after them, are feven with the catt wind, thall be feven years of years; and the feven empty ears blatted famine.

28 This is the thing which I have spoken unto Phiarach: what God is about to do he theweth unto Pharaoh.

32 And for that the dream was doubled, unto Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is eltablished by God, and God will shortly bring it to pafs..

33 Now, therefore, let Pharaoh look out a man difcreet and wife, and fet him over the land of Egypt.

34 Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the feven plenteous years.

35 And let them gather all the food of thofe good years that come, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities.

36 And that food fhall be for ftore to the land against the feven years of famine which fhall be in the land of Egypt; that the land. perith not through the famine.
