2 They were armed with bows, and could ufe both the right hand and the left in hurl ing ones, and hooting arrows out of a bow, even of Sauls brethren of Benjamin.

16 And there came of the children of Benjamin and Judah to the hold unto

David.

17 And David went out to meet them, and answered and faid unto them, If ye be come peaceably unto me to help me, mine heart thall be knit unto you: but if ye be come to betray me to mine enemies, feeing there is no wrong in mine hands, the God of our fathers look thereon, and rebuke it.

18 Then the Spirit came upon Amasai, who was chief of the captains, and he faid, Thine are tee, David, and on thy fide, thou son of Jelle: peace, peace be unto thee, and peace be to thine helpers; for thy God helpeth thee. Then David received them, and made them captains of the band.

19 And there fell fome of Manaffch to David, when he came with the Philiftines againit Saul to battle; but they helped them not: for the lords of the Philiftines, upo advisement, fent him away, faying, He will fall to his mafter Saul, to the jeopardy of our

heads.

20 As he went to Ziklag, there fell to him of Manaflch, Adnah, and Jozabad and Jediae), and Michael, and Jozabad and Elinu, and Zilthai, captains of the thousands that were of Mananch.

21 And they helped David against the band of the revers: for they zen all mighty men of valour, and were captains in the hoft.

22 For at that time, day by day, there came to David to help him, until it was a great hoft, like the hoft of God.

23 And thele are the numbers of the bands that were ready armed to the war, and came to David to Hebron, to turn the kingdom of Saul to him, according to the word of the LORD.

24 Thechildren of Judah, that bare shield, and fpear, were fix thoufand and eight hundred, ready armed to the war.

39 And there they were with David three days, eating and drinking: for their brethren had prepared for them.

2 And David faid unto all the congrega. tion of Ifrael, if it feem good unto you, and that it be of the LORD our God, let us fend abroad unto our brethren every where, that are left in all the land of irael, and with them alfo to the pricits and Levites which are in their citics and fuburbs, that they may gather themselves unto us.

3 And let us bring again the ark of our God to us: for we enquired not at it in the days of Saul.

4 And all the congregation faid that they would do fo: for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people.

s So David gathered all Ifrael together, from Shihor of Egypt, even unto the entering of Hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kirjath-jearim.

6 And David went up, and all Ifrael, to Baalah, that is to Kirjath-jearim, which be longed to Judah, to bring up thence the ark of God the LORD, that dwelleth between the cherubims, whofe name is called on it.

7 And they carried the ark of God in a new cart out of the houfe of Abinadab : and Uzza and Ahio drave the cart.

8 And David and all Ifrael played before God with all their might, and with finging and with harps, and with pfalteries, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with trumpets.

9And when they came unto the threshing-floor of Chidon, Uzza put forth his hand to hold the ark; for the oxen ftumbled.

10 And the anger of the LORD was kindled againit Uzza, and he fmote him, becaufe he put his hand to the ark: and there he died before God.

11 And David was difpleafed, becaule the Lond had made a breach upon Uzza: wherefore that place is called Perez-Uzza to this day.

12 And David was afraid of God that day, faying, How fhall I bring the ark of God hone to me!

13 So David brought not the ark home to himielf to the city of David, but carried it a fide into the houfe of Obed-edom the Gittite.

14 And the ark of God remained with the family of Obed-edom in his houfe three months. And the LORD blessed the house of Obed-edom, and all that he had. CHAP. XIV.

8 And when the Philistines heard that David was anointed king over all Ifrael, all the Philiftines went up to feek David and David,heard of it, and went out against them. 9 And the Philistines came and fpread themfelves in the valley of Rephaim.

10 And David enquired of God, faying, Shall I go up against the Philistines? and wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD faid unto him, Go up, for I will deliver them into thine hand.

11 So they came up to Baal-perazim, and David fmote them there. Then David faid, God hath broken in upon mine enemies by mine hand, like the breaking forth of waters, therefore they called the name of that place Baal-perazim.

12 And when they had left their gods there, David gave a commandment, and they were burnt with fire.

13 And the Philistines yet again fpread themselves abroad in the valley.

14 Therefore David enquired again of God: and God faid unto him, Go not up after them; turn away from them, and come upon thein over againit the mulberry-trees.

15 And it thall be, when thou thalt hear a found of going in the tops of the mulberrytrees, that then thou thalt go out to battle: for God is gone forth before thee to fmite the host of the Philistines.

16 David therefore, did as God commanded him; and they fmote the hott of the Philiftines from Gibeon even to Gazer.

17 And the fame of David went out into all lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations.

CHAP. XV.

1 David bringeth the ark from Obed-edom: 25 He performeth it with great joy. 19 Michal defpijeth lam.

Nd David made him houfes in the city

A of David, and prepared a place for the ark of God, and pitched for it a tent.

2 Then David faid, None ought to carry the ark of God but the Levites: for them hath the LORD chofen to carry the ark of God, and to minifter unto him for ever.

3 And David gathered all Ifrael together to Jerufalem, to bring up the ark of the LORD unto his place, which he had prepared for it. 4 And David affembled the children of Aaron, and the Levites.

5 Of the fons of Kohath; Uriel the chief, and his brethren, an hundred and twenty.

6 Of the fons of Merari; Ataiah the chief and his brethren, two hundred and twenty. 7 Of the fons of Gerthom; Joel the chief, and his brethren, an hundred and thirty.

8 Of the sons of Elizaphan; Shemaiah the chief, and his brethren, two hundred.

9 Of the fons of Hebron; Eliel the chief, and his brethren, fouricore.

10 Of the fons of Uzziel; Amminnadab the chief, and his brethren, an hundred and twelve.

11 And David called for Zadok and Ahsathar the prieits, and for the Levites, for Uriel, Afaiali, and Joel, Shemaiah, and Eliel, and Amminnadab,

12 And faid unto them, Ye are the chief of the fathers of the Levites; fanétify yourfelves, both ye and your brethren, that ye may bring up the ark of the LORD God of Ifrael unto the place that I have prepared for it.

13 For becaufe ye did it not at the first, the LORD our God made a breach upon us, for that we fought him not after the due order.

14 So the priests and the Levites fanctified themfelves to bring up the ark of the LORD God of Ifrael.

13. And the children of the Levites bare the ark of God upon their thoulders, with the staves thereon, as Mofes commanded, according to the word of the LORD.

16 And David fpake to the chief of the Levites, to appoint their brethren to be the fingers with inftruments of mulick, pfalteries, and harps, and cymbals, founding, by lifting up the voice with joy.

17 So the Levites appointed Heman, the fon of Joel; and of his brethren, Afaph, the fon of Berechiah; and of the fons of Merari their brethren, Ethan, the fon of Kuthaiah:

18 And with them their brethren of the fecond degree, Zechariah, Ben, and Jaaziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Unni, Eliab, and Benaiah, and Maafeiah, and Mattithiah, and Elipheleh, and Mikneiah and Obed-edom and Jeiel, the porters.

19 So the fingers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan tuere appointed to found with cymbals

of brass.

20 And Zechariah, and Aziel, and She miramoth, and Jchiel, and Unni, and Eliab, and Maatciah, and Benaiah, with pfalteries on Alamoth:

21 And Mattithiah, and Elipheleh, and Mikneiah, and Obed-edom and Jeiel, and Azaziah, with harps on the sheminith to excel.

22 And Chenaniah, chief of the Levites, Teas for fong: he inftructed about the fong, because he was skilful.

23 And Berechiah and Elkanah zuere doorkeepers for the ark.

24 And Shebaniah, and Jehoshaphat, and Nethaneel, and Amafai, and Zechariah, and Benaiah, and Eliezer, the prictts, did blow with the trumpets before the ark of God: and Obed-edom and Jchiah were doorkeepers for the ark.

25 So David, and the elders of Ifrael, and the captains over thoufands, went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD, out of the house of Obed-edom, with joy.

26 And it came to pass, when God helped the Levites that bare the ark of the coveRant of the LORD, that they offered feven bullocks, and feven rams.

27 And David was cloathed with a robe of fine linen, and all the Levites that bare the ark, and the fingers, and Chenaniah the matter of the fong with the fingers; Davidalfo had upon him an Ephod of linen.

28 Thus all Ifrael brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with fhouting. and with found of the cornet, and with

trumpets, and with cymbals, making a noise with pfalteries and harps.

29 And it came to país, as the ark of the covenant of the LORD came to the city of David, that Michal, the daughter of Saul, looking out at a window, faw king David dancing and playing, and the defpiled him in her heart.

2 And when David had made an end of offering the burnt-offerings, and the peaceofferings, he bleffed the people in the name of the LORD.

3 And he dealt to every one of Ifrael, both man and woman, to every one a loaf of bread, and a good piece of Reth, and a Bagon of wine.

4¶ And he appointed certain of the Levites to minister before the ark of the LORD, and to recurd, and to thank and praise the LORD God of Ifrael:

5 Afaph the chief, and next to him Zechariah, Jeiel and Shemiramoth, and Je. hiel, and Mattithiah, and Eliab, and Benaiah, and Obed-edom; and Jeiel with pfalteries and with harps: but Afaph made a found with cymbals;

6 Benaiah alfo and Jehaziel the pricfts with trumpets continually before the ark of the covenant of God.

Then on that day David delivered firit this faim, to thank the LORD, into the hand of Afaph and his brethren.

8 Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people.

9 Sing unto him, fing pfalms unto him, talk ye of all his wondrous works.

10 Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that feek the LORD.

11 Seek the LORD, and his ftrength, feek his face continually.

12 Remember his marvellous works that he hath done, his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth;

13 O ye feed of frasl his fervant, ye children of Jacob his chofen ones.

14 He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth.

15 Be ye mindful always of his covenant; the word which he commanded to a thou fand generations;

16 Even of the covenant which he made with Abraham, and of his oath unto Ifaac;

17 And hath confirmed the fame to Jacob for a law, and to Ifrael for an everlasting covenant,

18 Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance. 19 When ye were but few, even a few, and ftrangers in it:

20 And when they went from nation to nati

en, and from one kingdom to another people: 21 He fuffered no man to do them wrong; yea, he reproved kings for their fakes.

22 Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.

23 Sing unto the LORD all the earth; fhew forth from day to day his falvation.

24 Declare his glory among the heathen; his marvellous works among all nations.

25 For great is the LouD, and greatly to be praited: he alfo is to be feared above all gods.

26 For all the gods of the people are idolst but the LORD made the heavens.

27 Glory and honour are in his prefence, ttrength and gladness are in his place.

28 Give unto the LORD, ye kindreds of

the people, givt unto the LORD glory, and ftrength.

29 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him; worthip the LORD in the beauty of holiness.

30 Fear before him all the earth: the world alio fhall be ftable, that it be not moved.

31 Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice: and let men fay among the nations, The LORD reigneth.

32 Let the fea roar, and the fulness thereof: let the fields rejoice, and all that is therein. 33 Then fhall the trees of the wood fing out at the prefence of the LORD, because he cometh to judge the earth.

34 O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever,

35 And lay ye, Save us, O God of our falva. tion, and gather us together, and deliver us from the heathen, that we may give thanks to thy holy name, and glory in thy praife.

36 Bleed be the LORD God of firacl for ever and ever. And all the people faid, Amen, and praifed the LORD.

37 So he left there before, the ark of the covenant of the LORD, Afaph and his brethren, to minister before the ark continually, as every days work required:

38 And Obed-edom, with their brethren, threefcore and eight; Obed-edom alfo, the fon of Jeduthun, and Holah, to be porters:

39 And Zadok the pricit, and his bre thren the prictts, before the tabernacle of the LORD, in the high place that was at Gibcon,

40 To offer burnt-offerings unto the Land, upon the altar of the burnt-offering conti nually, morning and evening, and to do according to all that is written in the law of the LORD, which he commanded ifrael :

41 And with them Heman and Jeduthun, and the reft that were chofen, who were exprelled by name, to give thanks to the LORD, because his mercy endureth for ever;

42 And with them Heman and Jeduthun, with trumpets and cymbals for thofe that fhould make a found, and with mufical intruments of God. And the fons of Jeduthun were porters.

Now it came to paf, as David fat in his

houfe, that David faid to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in an houfe of cedars but the ark of the covenant of the LORD remaineth under curtains.

2 Then Nathan faid unto David, Do all that is in thine heart; for God is with thee.

3 And it came to pass the fame night, that the word of God came to Nathan, faying, 4 Go and tell David my fervant, Thus faith the LORD, Thou shalt not build me an houfe to dwell in:

5 For I have not dwelt in an houfc fince the day that I brought up Ifrael unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.

6 Wherefoever I have walked with all Ifracl, fpake I a word to any of the judges of Ifrack whom I commanded to feed my people, faying, Why have ye not built me an houfe of cedars?

7 Now therefore, thus fhalt thou fay unto my fervant David, Thus faith the LORD of -hoits, I took thee from the theep-cote, ezen from following the theep, that thou thould elt be ruler over my people Ifrael;

8 And I have been with thee witherfoever thou hatt walked, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thec a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth:

9 Alfo I will ordain a place for my people ifrael, and will plant them, and they thall dwell in their place, and thall be movcd no more; neither fhall the children of wickednefs watte them any more, as at the beginning.

10 And fince the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Ifrael: moreover, I will fubdue all thine enemies. Fur thermore I tell thee, that the LORD will Build thee an houfe.

II And it thall come to pafs, when thy days be expired, that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will raife up thy feed after thee, which fhall be of thy fons; and I will eftablish his kingdom.

12 He thall build me an houfe, and I will ettablish his throne forever.

13 I will be his father, and he thall be my fon; and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:

14 But I will fettle him in mine houfe and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne fhall be established for evermore.

15 According to all thefe words, and according to all this vition, fo did Nathan fpeak unto David.

16 And David the king came and fat before the LORD, and faid, Who am I, O 1.ORD God, and what is mine houfe, that thou hast brought me hitherto?

17 And yet this was a fmall thing in thine eyes, O God; for thou haft alfo fpoken of thy dervants house for a great while to come, and hatt regarded me according to the citate of a man of high degree, O LORD God.

18 What can David peak more to thee for the honour of thy fervant? for thou knewet thy fervant.

19 O LORD, for thy fervants fake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all this greatness, in making known all thefe great things.

20 O LORD, there is none like thee, neither is there any god befides thee, according to that we have heard with our ears,

21 And what one nation in the earth ta like thy people Ifrael, whom God went to redeem to be his own people, to make thee a name of greatness and terriblenels by driving out nations from before thy people, whom thou haft redeemed out of Egypt.

22 For thy people Ifrael didft thou make thine own people for ever, and thou, LORD, becamett their Ged.

23 Therefore now, LoxD, let the thing that thou haft fpoken concerning thy fervant, and concerning his houfe, be eftáblifhed for ever, and do as thou haft faid.

24 Let it even be ettablished, that thy namo may be magnified for ever, faying, The LORD of hofts is the God of Ifracl, even a God to Irael: and let the house of David thy fervant be established before thee,

25 For thou, O my God, haft told thy servant, tha thou wilt build him an house: therefore thy iervant hath found in his heart: to pray before thee.

26 And now, LORD, thou art God, and haft. promifed this goodne unto thy fervant;

27 Now therefore, let it picate thee to bles the house of thy fervant, that it may be before thee for ever: for thou bleffett, Ó LORD, and it shall be blefied for ever.

5 And when the Syrians of Damafcus came to lielp Hadarezer king of Zobalt, David flew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.

6 Then David put garrifons in Syria-damascus; and the Syrians became Davids fervants, and brought gifts. Thus the LORD preserved David whitherfoever he went.
