5 But they said, Not on the feat-day, left there be an uproar among the people.

6 Now, when Jefus was in Bethany, in the koufe of Simon the leper,

7 There came unto him a woman having an alabafter-box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head as he fat at meat, 8 But when his difciples faw it, they had Indignation, faying, To what purpose is this wafte?

9 For this ointment might have been fold for much, and given to the poor.

10 When Jefus underfood it, he faid unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for the hath wrought a good work upon me.

11 For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.

12 For in that the hath poured this ointment on my body, the did it for my burial. 13 Vertly I fay unto you, Wherefoever this golpel fhall be preached in the whole world, there thall alfo this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.

14. Then one of the twelve, calltd judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,

15 And laid unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him ante you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of filver.

16 And from that time he fought opportunity to betray him.

17 Now, the first day of the feaft of unleavened bread, the difciples came to Jefus, faying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the paffover?

18 And he faid, Go into the city to fuch a man, and fay unto him, The Mafter saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the paffover at thy house with my disciples.

19 And the difciples did as Jefus had appointed them; and they made ready the paffover.

zo Now, when the even was come, he fat down with the twelve.

21 And as they did eat he faid, Verily I fay unto you, that one of you thall betray me. 22 And they were exceeding forrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I

13 And he answered and faid, He that dippeth his hand with me in the difh, the fame thall betray me.

24 The Son of man goeth, as it is written of him's but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good fur that manif he had not been born.

25 Then Judas, which betrayed bim, anfwered, and faid, Mafter, is it 1? He faid unto him, Thoa haf faid,

26 And as they were eating, Jefus took bread, and bleffed it, and brake it, and gave to the difciples, and faid, Take, eat, this is my body.

a7 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, faying, Drink ye all

of it:

18 For this is my blood of the new teftament, which is fhed for many for the remiffion of fins.

29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Fathers kingdom.

30 And when they had fung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

31 Then faith Jefus unto them, All ye fhall be offended becaufe of me this night: for it is written, I will fmite the Shepherd, and the theep of the flock thall be fcattered

abroad.

32 But after I am rifen again, I will go before you into Galilee.

33 Peter anfwered and faid unto him, Though all men fhall be offended becaufe of thee, yet will I never be offended.

34 Jefus laid unto him, Verily I fay unto thee, that this night, before the cock crow, thou thalt deny me thrice.

35 Peter faid unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewife alfo faid all the difciples.

36 T Then cometh Jefus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and faith unto the difciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.

37 And he took with him Peter and the two fons of Zebedee, and began to be forrowful and very heavy.

38 Then faith he unto them, My foul 13 exceeding forrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.

39 And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, faying, O my Father, if it be posible, let this cup pafs from me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou will.

40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them afleep, and saith unto Peter, What! could yo not watch with me one hour!

41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the fpirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, Omy Father, if this cup may not pafs away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.

43 And he came and found them afleep again: for their eyes were heavy.

44 And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.

45 Then cometh he to his difciples, and faith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your reft: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands

of finners.

46 Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray ine.

47 And while he yetipake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude, with fwords and flaves, from the chief priests and elders of the people.

48 Now, he that betrayed him gave them fign, faying, Whomfoever I thall kifs, that fame is he; hold him falt.

a

49 And forthwith he came to Jefus, and faid, Hail, Mafter; and kiffed him.

50 And Jelusfaid unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they and laid hands on Jefus, and took him.

51 And, behold, one of them which were with Jefus ftretched out his hand, and drew his fword, and truck a fervant of the high prieft, and fmote off his ear.

Sa Then fald Jefus unto him, Put up agai thy word into lus place: for all they th take the (word hall perth with the fword.

53 Thinkeft thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he that prefently give me more than twelve legions of angelit

54 But how then thall the fcriptures be fulfilled, that thus it muft be?

55 In that fame hour faid Jefus to the mulW chief priests and elders of the people titudes, Are ye come out as again a thief with fwords and ftaves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ve laid no hold on me.

56 But all this was done, that the fcriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the difciples forfook him, and fled. 57 And they that had laid hold on Jelis led him away to Caiaphas the high priett, where the fcribes and the elders were atrembled.

58 But Peter followed him afar off, unto the high pricits palace, and went in, and fat with the fervants to fee the end.

59 Now the chief prices, and elders, and all the council, fought falle witness against Jefus, to put him to death;

60 But found none: yea, though many falfe witnelles came, yet found they none. At the laft came two falfe witnelles,

61 And laid, This fellure said, I am able to deftroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.

62 And the high priest arofe, and faid unto him, Anfwerelt thou nothing? what is it which thefe witness against thee?

63 But Jefus held his peace. And the high priest answered and faid unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Chrift, the Son

of God.

64 Jefus faith unto him, Thon haft faid: nevertheless, fay unto you, Hereafter thall ye fee the fon of man titting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

65 Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying. He hath fpoken blafphemy; what further need have we of witneffes ? behold, now ye have heard his blafphemy.

66 What think ye? They answered and faid, He is guilty of death.

67 Then did they fpit in his face, and buffeted him, and others fmote him with the palms of their hands,

62 Saying, Prophefy unto us, thou Chrift; Who is he that fmote thee!

69 Now Peter fat without in the palace: and a danfei came unto him, faying, Thou alfo waft with Jefus of Galilec.

70 But he denied before them all, faying, I know not what thou fayeft.

71 And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid faw him, and faid unto them that were there, This fellore was alfo with Jefus of Nazareth.

72 And again he denied with an oath, 1 do not know the man.

73 And after a while came unto him they that food by, and faid to Peter, Surely thou alfo art one of them; for thy fpeech bewrayeth thee.

74 Then began he to curfe and to fwear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.

75 And Peter remembered the words of Jesus, which fald unto him, Before the cock

took counsel against Jefus to put him to death: 2 And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontiua Pilate the governor.

3 Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he faw that he was condemned, re pented himfelf, and brought again the thirty picces of filver to the chief priests and elders, 4 Saying, I have finned, in that I have be trayed the innocent blood. And they fail, What is that to us? fee thout that,

5 And he caft down the pieces of filver in the temple, and departed, and went and banged himself.

6 And the chief priests took the fiver pieces, and Laid, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.

7 And they took counfel, and bought with them the potters field, to bury strangers in. 8 Wherefore that field was called The field of blood, unto this day.

9 (Then was fulfilled that which was fpo ken by Jeremy the prophet, faying, And they took the thirty pieces of filver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Ifrael did value,

10 And gave them for the potters field, as the Lord appointed me.)

11 And Jefus ftood before the governor, and the governor afked him, faying, Art thou the king of the Jews! And jeius faid unto him, Thou fayett.

12 And when he was accufed of the chief priests and elders, he anfwered nothing.

13 Then faith Pilate unto him, Heareft thou not how many things they witnef againit thee!

14 And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly.

15 Now, at that feat the governor was wont to releafe unto the people a prifoner, whom they would.

16 And they had then a notable prifoner, called Barabbas.

17 Therefore, when they were gathered together, Pilate faid unto them, whom will ye that I releafe unto you? Barabbas, or Jefus, which is called Chri?

18 For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.

19 When he was fet down on the judgment-feat, his wife fent unto him, faying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have fnffered many things this day in a dream becaufe of him.

20 But the chief priests and elders perfuaded the multitude, that they thould alk Barabbas and destroy Jefus.

21 The governor anfwered and faid unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I releafe unto you? They faid, Barabbas.

22 Pilate faith unto them, What fhall 1 do then with Jefus, which is called Chrift? They all fay unto him, Let him be crucified: E e

23 And the governor faid, Why? what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, taying, let him be crucified.

24 When Pilate faw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and wathed his hands before the multitude, Taying, I am innocent of the blood of this juft perion; fee ye to it. 25 Then answered all the people, and faid, his blood be on us, and on our children

26 Then releafed he Barabbas unto them: and when he had fcourged Jefus, he Celivered him to be crucified.

27 Then the foldiers of the governor took Jefus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of foldiers.

18 And they tripped him, and put on him a fcarlet robe.

29 And when they had platted a crown of thorns they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, faying, Mail, king of the Jews!

30 And they fpit upon him, and took the reed, and fmote him on the head.

31 And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.

32 And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his crofs.

33 And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to fay, A place of a scull,

34 They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tatted thereof, he would not drink.

35 And they crucified him, and parted his garments, cafting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was fpoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vetture did they catt lots.

36 And, fitting down, they watched him there;

37 And fet up over his head his accufation written, THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS.

38 Then were there two thieves crucified with him; one on the right hand, and another on the left.

391 And they that palled by reviled him, wagging their heads,

40 And faying, Thou that defroyeft the temple, and buildest it in three days, fave thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the crofs.

41 Likewife alfo the chief priests, mocking him, with the feribes and elders, faid,

42 He faved others, himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Ifracl, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.

43 He trufted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he faid, I am the Son of God.

44 The thieves alfo, which were crucified with him, caft the fame in his teeth.

45 Now, from the fixth our there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth bour.

46 And, about the ninth hour, Jefus cried with a loud voice. faying, bli, Ell, lama fa(67-3)

47 Some of them that flood there, when they heard that, faid, This man calleth for Elias.

48 And ftraightway one of them ran, and took a fpunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.

49 The reft faid, Let be, let us fce whe ther Elias will come to fave him.

50 % Jefus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.

51 And, behold, the vail of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent,

52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the faints which flept arofe,

53 And came out of the graves after his relurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

54 Now, when the centurion, and they that were with him watching Jefus, faw the earthquake, and thofe things that were done, they feared greatly, faying, Truly this was the Son of God.

55 And many women were there, beholding afar off, which followed Jelus from Ga lilee, miniftering unto him;

56 Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joles, and the mother of Zebedee's children.

57 When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathea, named Jofeph, who alfo himself was Jefus difciple:

58 He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jefus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.

59 And when Jofeph had taken the body. he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,

60 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great ftone to the door of the fepulchre, and departed.

61 And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, fitting over againit the fepulchre.

62 Now, the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharifees came together unto Pilate,..

63 Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver faid, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rife again.

64 Command therefore, that the fepulchre be made fure until the third day, left his difciples come by night and treat him away, and lay unto the people, He istifen from the dead: to the laft error thall be worfe than the first.

65 Pilate faid unto them, Ye have a watch; go your way, make it as fure as ye cao.

66 So they went and made the fepulchre fure, fealing the ftone, and fetting a watch. CHAP. XXVI.

And they departed quickly from the fepulchre with fear and great joy, and did run to bring his difciples word.

9 And as they went to tell his difciples, behold, Jefus met them, faying, All bail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worthipped him.

10 Then faid Jefus unto them, Be not afraid go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they fee me.

4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptifm of repentance for the remiffion of fins.

5 And there went out unto him all the land of Judea, and they of Jerufalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confeiling their fins.

6 And John was clothed with camels hair, and with a girdle of a fkin about his loins; and he did eat locufts and wild honey;

7 And preached, faying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whofe thoes I am not worthy to stoop down

and unloote.

8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he thai baptize you with the Holy

Ghoir.

9And it came to pafs in thole days, that Jefus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.

that were done.

12 And when they were affembled with the elders, and had taken counfel, they gave large money unto the foldiers.

13 Saying, Say ye, His diiciples came by night, and itole hiin away while we dept. 13 And if this come to the governors ears, we will perfuade him, and fecure you.

14 So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this faying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.

i6 1 Then the eleven difciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jeius had appointed them.

17 And when they faw him they wor fhipped him: but some doubted.

18 And Jefus came and fpake unto them, faying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

19 Go ye, therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghoft;

13 And he was there in the wilderness torty days tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beaits: and the angels minifiered

unto him.

14 Now, after that John was put in prifon, Jefus came into Galilee, preaching the gofpel of the kingdom of Gud.

15 And faying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and belleve the golpel.

16 Now, as he walked by the fea of Gali

lee, he law Simon, and Andrew his brother, cating a net into the fea: (for they were fithers:)

17 And Jesus faid unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fithers of men.

18 And ftraightway they forfook their nets, and followed him.

19 And when he had gone a little farther thence he faw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who alfo were in the thip mending their nets.

20 And ftraightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the thip with the hired fervants, and went after him.

21 And they went into Capernaum; and ftraightway on the fabbath-day, he entered into the fynagogue, and taught.

22 And they were attonithed at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the fcribes.

23 And there was in their fynagogue a man with an unclean ipirit, and he cried out,

24 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jefus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee wh thou art, the holy One of God.

25 And Jefus rebused him, faying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him." Ee

15 And when the unclean fpirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.

27 And they were all amazed, infomuch that they questioned among themfelves, faying, What thing is this? what new doctrine s this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean fpirits, and they do obey dim.

28 And immediately his fame fpread abroad throughout all the region round about

Galilee.

19 And forthwith, when they were come out of the fynagogue, they entered into the houfe of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.

30 But Simons wifes mother lay fick of a fever; and anon they tell him of her.

31 And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and the ministered unto them.

32 And at even, when the fun did fet, they brought unto him all that were difeafed, and them that were poffeffed with devils.

33 And all the city was gathered together

at the door.

34 And he healed many that were fick af divers difeafes, and caft out many devils; and faffered not the devils to fpeak, becaufe. they knew him.

35 And in the morning, rifing up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a folitary place, and there prayed.

36 And Simon, and they that were with tim, followed after him.

37 And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men feek for thee.

38 And he faid unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there aifo: for therefore came I forth.

39 And he preached in their fynagogues throughout all Galilee, and catt out devils. 40 And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and faying unto him, If thou wilt, thou can make me clean.

41 And Jefus, moved with compaffion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and faith unto him, I will; be thou clean.

42 And affoon as he had fpoken, immediately the leproty departed from him, and

he was cleanfed.

43 And he Araitly charged him, and forthwith fent him away:

44 And faith unto him, See thou fay nothing to any man: but go thy way, thew thyself to the pricft, and offer for thy cleanfing thofe things which Mofes commanded, for a teftimony unto them.

45 But he went out, and began to publifh much, and to blaze abroad the matter, infomuch that Jefus could no more openly enter into the city, but was without in de fert places: and they came to him from every quarter.

7 Why doth this man thus fpeak blafphemies? who can forgive fins but God only?

8 And immediately, when Jefas perceived in his spirit that they fo reafoned within themselves, he faid unto them, Why reafon ye these things in your hearts?
