32 And the angel of the LORD faid unto him, Wherefore haft thou fmitten thine afs thefe three times? Behold, I went out to wichitand thee, becaufe thy way is perverfe before me. 33 And the afs faw me, and turned from me thefe three times: unlefs the had turned from me, furely now alfo I had flain thee, and faved her alive.

34 And Balaam faid unto the angel of the LORD, I have finned; for I knew not that thou ftoodeft in the way against me: now, therefore, if it difpleafe thee, I will get me back again.

35 And the angel of the LORD faid unto Balaam, Go with the men: but only the word that I fhall fpeak unto thee, that thou fhaltfpeak. So Ealaam went with the princes of Balak.

36 And when Balak heard that Balaam was come, he went out to meet him unto a city of Moab, which is in the border of Arnon, which is in the utmott coast.

37 And Balak faid unto Balaam, Did I not carnettly fend unto thee to call thee? where fore cameft thou not unto me? am Inot able indeed to promote thee to honour?

38 And Balaam faid unto Balak, Lo, I am come unto thee: have I now any power at all to fay any thing? the word that God putteth in my mouth, that thall I fpeak.

39 And Balaain went with Balak, and they came unto Kirjath-huzoth.

40 And Balak offered oxen and theep, and fent to Balaam, and to the princes that were

with him.

41 And it came to pals on the morrow, that Balak took Balaam, and brought him up into the high places of Baal, that thence he might fee the utmost part of the people. CHAP. XXIII.

I, 14, 28 Balaks facrifices. 7, 18 Balaams parables.

ANd Balaam faid unto Balak, Build me here feven altars, and prepare me here feven oxen and feven rams.

2 And Balak did as Balaam had fpoken; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bullock and a rain.

3 And Balaam faid unto Balak, Stand by thy burnt-offering, and I will go; peradventure the LORD will come to meet me: and whatfoever he theweth me I will tell thee. And he went to an high place.

4 And God met Balaam: and he faid unto him, I have prepared feven altars, and I have offered upon every altar a bullock and

a ram.

5 And the LORD put a word in Balaams mouth, and faid, Return unto Balak, and thus thou shalt fpeak.

6 And he returned unto him; and, lo, he flood by his burnt-facrifice, he, and all the princes of Moab.

7 And he took up his parable, and faid, Balak the king of Moab hath brought me from Arain, out of the mountains of the cait, Jaying, Come, curfe me Jacob; and come, defy Israel,

8 How 'fhall I curfe whom God hath not curfed? or how thail I defy tuhom the LORD hath not défied

9 For from the top of the rocks I fee him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people thall dwell alone, and thall not be reckoned among the nations.

10 Who can count the duft of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Ifrael? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my laft end be like his!

it And Balak faid unto Balaain, What haft thou done unto me? I took thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou haft bleffed them altogether,

12 And he anfwered and faid, Muft I not take heed to speak that which the LORD hath put in my mouth?

13 And Balak faid unto him, Come, I pray thee,with me unto anotherplace, from whence thou mayeft see them: thou shalt fee but the utmoft part of them, and thalt not see then all; and curfe me them from thence.

14 And he brought him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pifgah, and built feven altars, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.

15 And he faid unto Balak, Stand here by thy burnt-offering, while I meet the LORD yonder.

16 And the LORD met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and faid, Go again unto Balak, and fay thus.

17 And when he came to him, behold, he flood by his burnt-offering, and the princes of Moab with him, And Balak faid unto

him, What hath the LORD fpoken? 18 And he took up his parable, and faid, Rife up, Balak, and hear; hearken unto me, thou fon of Zippor:

19 Godis not a man, that he should lie: neither the fon of man, that he fhould repent: hath he faid, and fhall he not do it? or hath he fpoken, and fhall he not make it good?

20 Behold, I have received commandment to blefs: and he hath bleffed, and I cannot reverse it.

21 He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he feen perverfenefs in Ifrael: the LORD his God is with him, and the fhout of a king is among them.

22 God brought thein out of Egypt: he bath as it were the strength of an unicorn.

23 Surely there is no inchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination againit Ifrael: according to this time it thall be faid of Jacob and of Ifrael, What hath God wrought!

14 Behold, thepeople fall rife up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he thall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the flain.

25 And Balak faid unto Balaam, Neither curfe them at all, nor blefs them at all.

26 But Balaam anfwered and faid unto Ba. lak, Told not I thee, faying, All that the LORD fpeaketh, that I must do?

27 And Balak faid unto Balaam, Come, I pray thee, I will bring thee unto another place; peradventure it will pleafe God that thou mayeit curfe me them from thence.

28 And Balak brought Balaam onto the top of Peor, that looketh toward Jeshimon.

30 And Balak did as Balaam had faid, and offered a bullock and aram on every altar. CHAP. XXIV.

Balaam prophefieth Ifraels happiness. Nd when Balaam faw that it pleated the A LORD to blefs Ifrael, he went not, as at other times to feek for inchantments, but he fet his face toward the wilderness.

2 And Balaam lifted up his eyes, and he faw Ifrael abiding in his tents, according to their tribes; and the Spirit of God cameupon him. 3 And he took up his parable, and faid, Balaam, the fon of Beor, hath said, and the man whofe eyes are open hath faid;

4 He hath faid, which heard the words of God, which faw the vifion of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyesopen: 5 How goodly are thy tents, O Jacob! and thy tabernacles, O Ifrael!

6 As the valleys are they fpread forth, as gardens by the rivers hide, as the trees of ign-aloes, which the LORD hath planted, and as cedar-trees befide the waters.

7 He thall pour the water out of his buckets, and his feed fhall be in

19 Out of Jacob fhall come He that fhall have dominion, and thall deftroy him that remaineth of the city.

20 And when he looked on Amalek, he took up his parable, and faid, Amalek was the firtt of the nations, but his latter end fhall be that he perith for ever.

21 And he looked on the Kenites; and took up his parable, and faid, Strong is thy dwelling-place, and thou putteft thy neit in a rock:

22 Nevertheless, the Kenite fhall be wafted until Afhur fhall carry thee away captive. 23 And he took up his parable, and faid, Alas! who thall live when God doeth this?

24 And hips fhall come from the coatt of Chittim, and shall afflict Athur, and fhall affict Eber, and he alfo fhall perish for ever.

25 And Balaam rofe up, and went and returned to his place: and Balak allo went his way.

CHAP. XXV.

1 The Ifraelites whoredom and idolatry with Moab. 6 Zimri and Cozbi flain.

Nd Ifrael abode in Shittim, and the peo

his king thall be higher than Agas, and his A pie began to commit whoredom with

kingdom fhall be exalted.

8 God brought him forth out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn: he thall eat up the nations his enemies, and thall break theirbones,andpierce them through

with his arrows.

9 He couched, he lay down as a lion, and as a great lion: who fhall ftirhim up? Bleffed i he that bleffeth thee, and curfed is he that

curfeth thee.

101 And Balaks anger was kindled againft Balaam, and he fmote his hands together: and Balak faid unto Balaam, I called thee to curfe mine enemies, and, behold, thou haft altogether blefled them these three times.

If Therefore now flee thou to thy place: Ethought to promote thee unto great honour, but, lo, the LORD hath kept thee back from

honour.

12 And Balaam faid unto Balak, Spake I not also to thy meflengers, which thou fent eft unto me, laying,

13 If Balak would give me hishouse full of filver and gold, I cannot go beyond the commandment of the Loap, to do either good or bad of mine qwn mind; but what the LORD faith, that will I fpeak.

14 And now, behold, I go unto my people: come therefore, and I willadvertife thee what this people thall do to thy people in the latter days.

15 And he took up his parable, and faid, Balaam, the fon of Beor, hath faid, and the man whofe eyes are open hath faid;

16 He bath faid, which heard the werds of God, and knew the knowledge of the moft High, which faw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having hiseyes open: 17 thall fee him, but not now; I thall behold him, but not nigh: there fhall cone a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre fhall rife out of Ifracl, and thall fmite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth,

18 And Edom thall be a poffeffion, Seir also Chall be a poffefion for his enemies; and Ifrael thail do valiantly.

2 And they called the people unto the facrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.

And Ifracl joined himself unto Baal-peor: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel.

4 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the LORD against the Ain, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Ifrael.

5 And Mofes faid unto the judges of Ifrael, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baal-peor.

6 And, behold, one of the children of Ifrael came, and brought unto his brethren a Milanitish woman, in the fight of Mofes, and in the fight of all the congregation of the childen of Ifracl, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

7 And when Phinehas, the fon of Eleazar, the fon of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rofe up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;

8 And he went after the man of Ifrael into the tent, and thruft both of them through, the man of Ifrael, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Ifrael.

9 And thofe that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.

109 And the LORD fpake unto Mofes, faying,

11 Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the fon of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Ifracl, while he was zealous for my fake among them, that I consumed not the children of Ifrael in my jealoufy.

Wherefore fay, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace.

13 And he thall have it, and his feed after him, even the covenant of an everlafting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the chil dren of Israel.

14 Now the name of the Ifraelite that was Bain, even that was flain with the Midianitish woman, Tuas Zimri, the fon of Salu, a prince of a chief houfe among the Simeonites.

15 And the name of the Midianitifh woman that was flain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur: he was head over a people, and of a chief houfe in Midian.

16 And the LORD fpake unto Mofes, faying,

17 Vex the Midianites, and fmite them: 18 For they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of Midian, their fifter, which was flain in the day of the plague for Peors fake.

CHAP. XXVI. Frael numbered. 52 The inheritance of the land divided.

And it came to pass after the plague, that the LORD fpakcunto Mofes and unto Eleazar, the fon of Aaron the priest, faying,

2 Take the fum of all the congregation of the children of Ifrael, from twenty years old and upward, throughout their fathers houfe, all that are able to go to war in Ifrael.

3 And Mofes and Eleazar the priest spake with them in the plains of Moab, by Jordan near Jericho, faying,

4 Take the fum of the people, from twenty years old and upward; as the LORD comimanded Mofes and the children of Ifrael, which went forth out of the land of Egypt. 5 Reuben, the eldest fon of Ifrael: the children of Reuben; Hanoch, of whom cometh the family of the Hanochites: of Pallu, the family of the Palluites:

6 Of Hefron, the family of the Hefronites: of Carmi, the family of the Carmites.

7 Thefe are the families of the Reubenites: and they that were numbered of them were forty and three thousand and feven hundred and thirty.

8 And the fons of Pallu, Eliab.

9 And the fons of Eliab; Nemuel, and Dathan, and Abiram. This is that Dathan and Abiram which were famous in the congregation, who ftrove against Mofes and against Aaron in the company of Korah, when they ftrove against the LORD:

10 And the earth opened her mouth, and fwallowed themup together with Korah,when that company died, what time the fire devoured two hundred and fifty men: and they became a fign.

11 Notwithstanding, the children of Korah

died not.

12 The fons of Simeon, after their families: of Nemuel, the family of the Nemuel ites: of Jamin, the family of the Jaminites: of Jachin, the family of the Jachinites:

13 OfZerah, the family of the Zarhites: of Shaul, the family of the Shaulites.

14 Thefe are the families of the Simeonites, twenty and two thousand and two hun

dred.

15 The children of Gad, after their families: of Zephon, the family of the Zephonites: of Haggi, the family of the Haggites: of Shuni, the family of the Shumites:

16 Of Ozni, the family of the Oznites: of Eri, the family of the Erites;

17 Of Arod, the family of the Arodites: of Areli, the family of the Arelites.

18 There are the families of the children of Gad, according to thofe that were numbered of them, forty thousand and five hundred. 191 The fons of Judah were Er and Onan: and Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. 20 And the fons of Judah, after their families, were; of Shelah, the family of the Shelanites: of Pharez, the family of the Pharzites: of Zerah, the family of the Zarhites..

21 And the fons of Pharez were; of Hezron, the family of the Hezronites: of Hamul, the family of the Hamulites.

22 Thefe are the families of Judah, according to thofe that were numbered of them, threefcore and fixteen thousand and five hundred.

23 Of the fons of Iffachar, after their families of Tola, the family of the Tolaites:

24 Of Jathub, the family of the Jathubites: of Shimron, the family of the Shimronites.

25 Thefe are the families of Lifachar, ar cording to thofe that were numbered of them, threefcore and four thousand and three hundred.

26 Of the fons of Zebulun, after their families of Sered, the family of the Sardites of Elon, the family of the Elonites: of Jahleel, the family of the Jahleelites.

27 Thefe are the families of the Zebulunites, according to thofe that were numbered of them, threefcore thousand and five hundred.

18 The fons of Joseph, after their fanilies, were Manatleh and Ephraim.

29 Of the fons of Manaffeh: of Machir, the family of the Machirites, and Machir be gat Gilead:, of Gilcad come the family of the Gileadites.

30 These are the fons of Gilead: ofJeezer, the family of the Jeezerites: of Helek, the family of the Helekites :

31 And of Afriel, the family of the Asrielites and of Shechem, the family of the Shechemites:

32 And of Shemida, the family of the Shemidaites: and of Hepher, the family of the Hephcrites.

33 And Zeloplehad, the fon of Hepher, had no fons, but daughters: and the names of the daughters of Zelophehad were Malilah, and Noah, Heglah, Milcah, and Tirzah,

34 Thefe are the families of Mana Teh, and thofe that were numbered of them fifty and two thousand and feven hundred.

35 Thefe are the fons of Ephraim, after their families: of Shuthelah, the family of the Shuthalites: of Becher, the family of the Bachrites: of Talian, the family of the Tabanites.

36 And thefe are the fons of Shuthelah; of Eran, the family of the Eranites.

37 Thefe are the families of the fons of Ephraim, according to thofe that were numbered of them, thirty and two thousand and five hundred. Thefe are the fons of Jofeph: after their families.

38 The fons of Benjamin, after their families; of Bela, the family of the Belaites, of Athbel, the family of the Abbelites; of Aliram, the family of the Abiramites:

39 Of Shupham, the family of the Shaphamites: of Hupham, the family of the Huphamites.

40 And the fons of Beka were Ard and Naaman of Ard, the family of the Ardites: and of Naaman, the family of the Naamites. 41 Thefe are the fons of Benjamin, after their families: and they that were numbered of them were forty and five thousand and fix

42 Thefe are the fons of Dan, after their families: of Shuham, the family of the Shuhamites. There are the families of Dan, after their families.

43 All the families of the Shulamites, according to thofe that were numbered of them, were threefcore and four thoufand and four hundred.

44 1 Of the children of Afher, after their families of Jinna, the family of the Jim nites of Jefui, the family of the Jefuites: of Berial, the family of the Beriites.

45 Of the fons of Beriah: of Heber, the family of the Heberites: of Malchiel, the family of the Malchielites.

46 And the name of the daughter of Alher

was Sarah.

47 Thefe are the families of the sons of Ather, according to thofe that were numbered of them, who were fifty and three thousand and four hundred.

48 of the fons of Naphtali, after their families: of Jahzeel, the family of the Jal zeelites: of Guni, the family of the Gunites: 49 Of Jezer, the family of the Jezerites: of Shillem, the family of the Shillemites.

50 There are the families of Naphtali, according to their families: and they that were numbered of them were forty and five thousand and four hundred..

51 Thele were the numbered of the children of Ifrael, fix hundred thousand, and a thoufand feven hundred and thirty.

52 And the Loso fpake unto Moles, faying,

53 Unto thefe the land thall be divided for an inheritance, according to the number of

names.

54 To many thou shalt give the more inheritance, and to few thou thalt give the less inheritance: to every one thall his inheritance be given, according to thofe that were numbered of him.

$5 Notwith#tanding, the land thall be divided by lot: according to the names of the tribes of their fathers they thall inherit.

56 According to the lot thail the poffethion thereof be divided between many and few. 57 And there are they that were numbered of the Levites, after their families: of Gerthon, the family of the Gershonites: of Mohath, the family of the Kohathites: of Merari, the family of the Merarites.

58 There are the families of the Levites: the family of the Libnites, the family of the Hebronites, the family of the Mahlites, thefamily of the Mufhites, the family of the Korathites: and Kohath begat Amram.

59 And the name of Amrams wife tear Jochebed, the daughter of Levi, whom her mother bare to Levi in Egypt: and the bare unto Amram Aaron, and Mofes, and Miriam their fifler.

60 And unto Aaron was born Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

61 And Nadab and Abihu died, when they offered strange tire before the LORD.

62 And thofe that were numbered of them were twenty and three thoufand, all males, froin a month old and upward: forthey were not numbered among the children of Ifrael, because there was no inheritance given them among the children of Ifrael.

63 Thele are they that were numbered by Mofes and Eleazar the pricft, who num bered the children of Ifrael in the plains of Moab, by Jordan near Jericho.

64 But among thefe there was not a man of thein whom Mofes and Aaron the priest numbered, when they numbered the ehiidren of Ifrael 1o the wildernefs of Sinai:

65 For the LORD had faid of them, They thall furely die in the wilderness. And there was not left a man of them, lave Caleb, the fon of Jephunneh, and Jofhua, the fon of Nun. CHAP. XXVII.

1 The daughters of Zelophehad fue for an inhe ritance. 6 The law of inheritances. 12 Mo, fes, being told of his death, fueth for a fuccessor: 18 Joshua appointed to fucceed him,

Hen came the daughters of Zelophehad, the fun of Hepher, the fon of Gilead, the fon of Machir, the fon of Manaffeh, of the families of Manaffeh the fon of Jofeph: and thefe are the names of his daughters, Mahlah, Noah, and Hoglah, and Milcal, and Tirzah.

2 And they flood before Mofes, and before Eleazar the pricft, and before the princes and all the congregation, by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, faying,

3. Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the company of them that ga thered themfelves together against the LORD in the company of Korah; but died in his own fin, and had no sons.

4 Why fhould the name of our father be done away from among his family, becaufe he hath no fon? Give unto us, therefore, a poffeffion among the brethren of our father. 5 And Mofes brought their caufe before the LORD.

69 And the LORD fpake unto Mofes, faying,

7Tke daughters of Zelophehadfpeak right: thou thalt furely give them a poffeffion of an inheritance among their fathers brethren; and thou shalt caufe the inheritance of their father to pass unto them.

8 And thou shalt fpeak unto the children of Ifrael, faying, If a man die, and have no fon, then ye thall caufe his inheritance to pafs unto his daughter.

9 And if he have no daughter, then ye thall give his inheritance unto his brethren.

10 And if he have no brethren, then ye fhall give his inheritance unto his fathers brethren.

11 And if his father have no brethren, then ye thall give his inheritance unto his kinfman that is next to him of his family, and he thall poffefs it: and it thall be unto the children of Ifrael a ftatute of judgment; as the LORD commanded Moses.

12 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, Get thee up into this mount Abarim, and fee the

15 And Mofes fpake unto the LORD, faying, 16 Let the LORD, the God of the fpirits of all defh, fet a man over the congregation,

17. Which may go out before them, and which may go in before them, and which may lead them out, and which may bring them in; that the congregation of the LORD be not as theep which have no thepherd.

18 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, Take thee Jofhua, the fon of Nun, a man in whom is the fpirit, and lay thine hand upon him; 19 And fet him before Elcazar the prieft, and before all the congregation: and give him a charge in their fight.

20 And thon fhalt put fome of thine honour upon him, that all the congregation of the children of Ifrael may be obedient.

21 And he thall ftand before Eleazar the pricft, who thail afk counfel for him, after the judgment of Urim before the LORD: at his word fhall they go out, and at his word they fhall come in, both he, and all the children of Ifrael with him, even all the congregation.

22 And Mofes did as the LORD commanded him: and he took Joshua, and fet him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation.

23 And he laid his hands upon him, and gave him a charge; as the LORD commanded by the hand of Mofes.

3 The continual

CHAP. XXVIII. 1 Offerings to be obferved. burnt-offering.

A

Nd the LORD fpake unto Mofes, faying, 2 Command the children of Ifrael, and fay unto them, My offering, and my bread for my facrifices made by fire, for a fweet favour unto me, fhall ye obferve to offer unto me in their due feafon.

3 And thou shalt fay unto them, This is the offering made by fire which ye thall offer unto the LORD; two lambs of the first year without fpot, day by day, for a continual burnt-offering.

4 The one lamb thalt thou offer in the morning, and the other lamb thalt thou offer at even;

5 And a tenth part of an ephah of flour for a meat-offering, mingled with the fourth part of an hin of heaten oil.

6 It is a continual burnt offering, which was ordained in mount Sinai for a fweet favour, á facrifice made by fire unto the LORD. 7 And the drink-offering thereof shall be the fourth part of an hin for the one lamb: in the holy place fhalt thou caufe the trong wine to be poured unto the LORD for a drink-offering.

8 And the other lamb fhalt thou offer at even: as the neat-offering of the morning,

and as the drink-offering thereof, thou fhalt offer it, a facrifice made by fire of a Iweet savour unto the LORD.

9 And on the fabbath-day, two lambs of the first year, without ipot, and two tenthdeals of flour for a meat-offering, mingled with oil, and the drink-offering thereof.

10 This is the burnt-offering of every fabbath, belide the continual burnt-offering, and his drink-offering.

11 And in the beginnings of your months ye shall offer a burnt-offering unto the LORD; two young bullocks and one ram, feven lambs of the firff year without spot;

12 And three tenth-deals of flour for a meat-offering, mingled with oil, for one bullock; and twotenth-deals of flour for a meatoffering, mingled with oil, for one rain.

13 And a feveral tenth-deal of flour, mingled wah oil, for a meat-offering, unto one lamb; for a burnt-offering of a fweet favour, a facrifice made by fire unto the LORD.

14 And their drink-offerings thall be half an hin of wine unto a bullock, and the third part of an hin unto a ram, and a fourth part of an hin unto a lamb: this is the burnt-offering of every month throughout the months of the year.

15 And onekid of the goats for a fin-offering unto the LORD fhall be offered, befides the continual burnt-offering, and his drinkoffering.

16 And in the fourteenth day of the firft month is the paflover of the LORD.

17 And in the fifteenth day of this month is the feaft: feven days fall unleavened bread be eaten.

18 In the firt day fhall be an holy convocation: ye thall do no manner of fervile work therein.

19 But ye shall offer a facrifice made by fire, for a burnt-offering unto the LORD; two young bullocks, and one rani, and feven lambs of the first year: they thall be unto you without blemith."

20 And their meat-offering fhall be of flour mingled with oil: three tenth-deals thall ye offer for a bullock, and two tenth-deals for a ram;

21 A feveral tenth-deal fhalt thou offer for every lamb throughout the feven lambs: 22 And one goat for a fin-offering, to make an atonement for you.

23 Ye shall offer thefe befide the burnt-offering in the morning, which is for a conti nual burnt-offering.

24 After this manner ye thall offer daily, throughout the feven days, the meat of the facrince made by fire, of a fweet favour unto the LORD: it thall be offered befides the continual burnt-offering, and his drink offering.

25 And on the feventh day ye shall have an holy convocation; ye thall do no fervile work."

26 Alfo in the day of the firft fruits, when ye bring a new meat-offering unto the LORD, after your weeks be out, ye thall have an foly convocation; ye thall do no fervile work.

27 But ye fall offer the burnt-offering for a fweet favour unto the LORD; two young bullocks, one ram, feven lambs of the fir year.
