12 And it hall come to pafs, affoon as 1 am gone from thee, that the fpirit of the LORD thall carry thee whither I know not; and fo, when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find thee, he fhall flay me; but I thy fervant fear the LORD from my youth.

13 Was it not told my lord what I did, when Jezebel flew the prophets of the LORD, how I hid an hundred men of the LORDS prophets, by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water?

14 And now thou fayeft, Go tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here: and he thall flay me. 15 And Elijah faid, As the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I ftand, I will furely fhew myfelf unto him to-day.

16 So Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him and Ahab went to meet Elijah. 17 And it came to pafs, when Ahab faw Elijah, that Alab faid unto him, Art thou he that troubleth Ifrael?

18 And he answered, I have not troubled Ifrael, but thou and thy fathers houfe, in that ye have forlaken the commandments of the LORD, and thou haft followed Baalim.

19 Now therefore fend, and gather to me all Ifrael unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, which eat at Jezebels table.

20 So Ahab fent unto all the children of Ifrael, and gathered the prophets together

unto mount Carmel.

21 And Elijah came unto all the people, and faid, How long halt ye between two opinions? If the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people anfwered him not a word.

22 Then faid Elijah unto the people, 1, even I only remain a prophet of the LORD but Baals prophets are four hundred and fifty men.

23 Let them, therefore, give us two bullocks; and let them choofe one bullock for themiclves, and cut it in pieces, and lay # on wood, and put no fire under; and I will drefs the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no tire under:

24 And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD; and the god that antwereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people anfwered and faid, It is well spoken.

25 And Elijah faid unto the prophets of Baal, Choofe you one bullock for yourfelves, and drefs it firit; for ye are many: and call on the name of your gods, but put no fire under. 26 And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dreifed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even un til noon, faying, O Baal hear us! But there was no voice, nor any that aniwered. And they leaped upon the altar which was made. 27 And it came to pafs at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and faid, Cry aloud; for he is a god: either he is talking, or he is purfuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he fleepeth, and must be awaked.

28 And they cried aloud, and cut themfelves after their manner, with knives and lancets, till the blood gushed out upon them. 29 And it came to pafs, when mid-day was past, and they prophelied unt.1 the time

of the offering of the evening facrifice, that there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.

30 And Elijah faid unto all the people, Coine near unto me. And all the people came near unto him; and he repaired the altar of the LORD that was broken down.

31 And Elijah took twelve fones, according to the number of the tribes of the fons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the LORD came, faying, Ifrael fhall be thy name;

32 And with the ttones he built an altar in the name of the LORD: and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two meafures of feed.

33 And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid him on the wood, and faid, Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt-facrifice and on the wood.

34 And he faid, Do it the fecond time: and they did it the fecond time. And he faid, Do it the third time: and they did it the third time.

35 And the waterran round about the altar;" and he filled the trench alfo with water.

36 And it came to pafs, at the time of the offering of the evening facrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and faid, LORD God of Abraham, Ifaac, and of Ifrael, let it be known this day that thou art God in Ifrael, and that I am thy fervant, and that I have done all these things at thy word.

37 Hear me, O LORD, hear me; that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou haft turned their heart back again.

38 Then the fire of the LORD fell, and confumed the burnt-facrifice, and the wood, and the ftones, and the duit, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

39 And when all the people faw it, they fell on their faces; and they faid, the LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God.

40 And Elijah faid unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them efcape. And they took them, and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and flew thein there.

41 And Elijah faid unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a found of abundance of rain.

42 So Abab went up to cat and to drink, and Elijah went up to the top of Carinel; and he caft himfelf down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees,

43 And he faid to his fervant, Go up now, look toward the fea. And he went up, and looked, and faid, There is nothing. And he faid, Go again feven times.

44 And it came to pafs, at the feventh time, that he faid, Behold, there arifeth a little cloud out of the fea, like a mans band. And he faid, Go up, fay unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain ftop thee not.

45 And it came to pals, in the mean while that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Alab rode, and went to Jezreel.

46 And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran' before Ahab to the entrance of Jezre

1 Elijah, threatened by Jezebel, 4 is comfort ed by an angel: 9 God fendeth him to anoint Hazael, Jehu, and Elia. 19 Elisha follorveth Elijah.

Nd Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal, how he had lain all the prophets with the fword.

2 Then Jezebel fent a metenger unto Elijah, aying, So let the gods do to me, and more alfo, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them, by to-morrow about this time.

3 And when he faw that, he arofe, and went for his life, and came to Beer-theba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his fervant there. 4 But he himfelf went a days journey into the wildernets, and came and fat down under a juniper-tree: and he requested for himfelf that he might dle, and faid, It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life: for I am not better than my fathers.

5 And as he lay and lept under a junipertree, behold, then an angel touched him, and faid unto him, Arife and cat.

6 And he looked, and behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a crufe of water at his head; and he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.

And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and toucked him, and faid, Arisa and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.

And he arofe, and did eat and drink, and went in the ttrength of that meat forty days and torty nights, unto Horeb the mount of God.

9And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he faid unto him, What doeft thou here, Elijah?

10 And he faid, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hofts: for the children of Irael have fortaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and flain thy prophets with the fward and 1, even 1 only, am left; and they feek my life, to take it away.

11 And he faid, Go forth, and ttand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD paffed by, and a great and ftrong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks, before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the carthquake:

12 And after the earthquake a fire but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a ftill fmall voice.

13 And it was fo, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave: and, behold, there came a voice unto him, and faid, What doeft thou here Elijah? 14 And he faid, I bave been very jealous for the LORD God of hofts; becaufe the children of Ifrael have forfaken thy coves nant, thrown down thine altars, and flain thy prophets with the word; and 1, even I only am left, and they feek my life, to

take it away.

And the LORD faid unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damafcis: and when thou coucit, anoint Hazaet to te bing over Syria:

16 And Jehu, the fon of Ninthi, halt thou anoint to be king over ifrael; and Elitha, the fon of Shaphat, of Abel-meholah, shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.

17 And it hall come to pa's, that him that efcapeth the fword of riazach, thall Jehu fay and him that elcapeth from the Iword of Jehu, fhall Elitha Day.

13 Yet I have left me feven thouCand in Ifracl, all the knees which have hoc inowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not

kiled him.

199 So he departed thence, and found Elitha the fon of shaphat, who was plough ing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth and Elijah paffed by him, and catt iis mantle upon him.

20 And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and faid, Ler me, I pray thee, kifs my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he laid unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee?

21 And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and flew them, and boiled their fleth with the inftruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat: then he arofe and went after Elijah, and minutered unto him. CHAP. XX.

1 Ben-hadad befiegeth Samaria. 13 The Syrians are lain. 31 Ahab difmifesh Benhadad: 42 the prophet reproveth him. Aed all his hoit together; and there were Nd Ben-hadad the king of Syria gatherthirty and two kings with him, and horses and chariots; and he went up and belieged Samaria, and warred againtt it.

2 And he fent metlengers to Abab king of Ifrael into the city, and laid unto him, Thus faith Ben-hadad,

3 Thy filver and thy gold is mine: thy wives alfo and thy children, even the good liest are mine.

4 And the king of Ifrael anfwered and faid, My lord, O king, according to thy faying, I am thine, and all that I have.

5 And the meilengers came again, and faid, Thus fpeaketh Ben-hadad, faying, Although have sent unto thee, faying, Tho thalt deliver me thy filver and thy gold, and thy wives, and thy children;

& 6 Yet I will fend my fervants unto thee to-morrow about this time, and they fhail fearch thine houfe, and the houfes of thy fervants: and it thall be, that whatsoever is pleafant in thine eyes, they thall put it in their hand, and take it away.

7 Then the king of Ifrael called all the elders of the land, and faid, Mark, I pray you, and show this man feeketh mifchief: for he fent unto me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold, and I denied him not.

8 And all the elders, and all the people, faid unto him, Hearken ot unto him, nor content.

9 Wherefore he faid unto the meffeacers

of Ben-hadad, Tell my lord the king, All that thou didit fend for to thy fervant at the firtt 1 will do: but this thing, I may not do. And the ineffengers departed, and brought him word again.

4 And he faid unto him, Thus faith the LORD, Becaule thou hast let go out of thy hand a man, whom I appointed to utter deftruction, therefore thy life thall go for his life, and thy people for his people."

43 And the king of Ifrael went to his houfe heavy and difpleafed, and came to Samaria. CHAP. XXI.

1- Aha denied Naboths vineyard. 5 Jezebel caufeth Naboth to be condemned. 17 Elijah denounceth judgments against Ahab and Jezebel.

Ahat about the Jezreelite had a vine. yard, which reas in Jezreel, hard by the palace of Ahab king of Samaria.

Nd it came to pafs after thefe things,

2 And Ahab pake unto Naboth, faying, Give me thy vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near unto my houfe, and I will give thee for it a better vineyard than it; or, if it feem good to thee, I will give thee the worth of it in money.

3 And Naboth faid to Ahab, The LORD forbid it me, that! fhould give the inherit ancc of my fathers unto thec.

4 And Ahab came into his houfe heavy and difpleafed, becaufe of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him, for he had faid, I will not give thee the inheritance of my fathers: and he laid him down upon his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.

5 But Jezebel his wife came to him, and faid unto him, Why is thy fpirit fo fad, that thou eateft no bread?

6 And he faid unto her, Becaufe I fpake unto Naboth the Jezreelite, and faid unto him, Give me thy vineyard for money, or elfe if it pleate thee, I will give thee anather vineyard for it and he anfwered, I will not give thee my vineyard.

7 And Jezebel his wife said unto him, Doft thou now govern the kingdom of Ifrael? Arife, and eat bread, and let thine heart be merry; will give thee the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.

8 So fhe wrote letter in Alabs name, and fealed them with his feal, and fent the letters unto the elders, and to the nobles, that toere in his city dwelling with Naboth.

9 And the wrote in the letters, faying, Proclaim a fast, and fet Naboth on high among the people.

10 And fet two men, fons of Belial, before him, to bear witness againit him, faying, Thou didit blafpheme God, and the king and then carry him out, and ttone him, that he may die.

And the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles, who were the inhabitants in his city, did as Jezebel had fent unto them, and as it was written in the letters which he had fent unto them:

12 They proclaimed a fatt, and fet Naboth on high among the people,

15 And it came to pafs, when Jezebel heard that Naboth was ftoned, and was dead, that Jezebel faid to Ahab, Arile, take pol seffion of the vineyard of Naboth the Jez reclite, which he refufed to give thee for money: for Naboth is not alive, but dead.

16 And it came to pals, when Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, that Ahab rofe up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the jezreclite, to take polleifion of it.

17 And the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Fishbite, faying,

Ifrael, which is in Samaria, behold he is in the vineyard of Naboth, whither he is gone down to poffefs it.

18 Arife, go down to meet Ahab king of

19 And thou fhalt fpeak unto him, faying, This faith the LORD, Haft thou killed, and alfo taken poffeffion? And thou shalt fpeak unto him, faying, 'Thns faith the LORD, In the place where dogs licked the blood of Na.. both shall dogs lick thy blood, even thine.

20 And Ahab faid to Elijah, Halt thou found me, Omine enemy? And he answered, i have found thee. Because thou hatt sold thyfelf to work evil in the fight of the LORD,

13 And there came in two men, children of Belial, and fat before him: and the men of Belial witneffed against him, even againt Naboth, in the prefence of the people, faying, Naboth did blafpheme God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and toned him with tones, that he died.

14 Then they fent to Jezebel, faying, Naboth is fioned, and is dead.

21 Behold, I will bring evil upon thee, and will take away thy potterity, and will cut off from Ahab him that pilieth against the wall, and him that is fhut up and left in Ifrael.

22 And will make thine houfe like the houfe of Jeroboain, the fon of Nebat, and like the houfe of Baatha the fon of Ahijah, for the provocation wherewith thou haft provoked me to anger, and made Ifrael to fin.

23 And of Jezebel alfo fpake the Lond, faying, The dogs fhall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.

24 Him that dieth of Ahab, in the city, the dogs thall cat; and him that dieth in the field, thall the fowls of the air eat.

25 But there was none like unto Ahab, which did fell himself to work wickedness in the fight of the LORD, whom Jezebelhis wife ftirred up.

26 And he did very abominably in follow. ing idols, according to all things as did the Amorites, whom the LORD cait out before

the children of Ifrael.

27 And it came to pals, when Ahab heard thofe words, that he rent his clothes, and pu: fackcloth upon his fleth, and falted, and lay in fack cloth, and went foitly.

28 And the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tifhbite, faying,

29 Sectt thou how Ahab humbleth himfelt before me? Because he humbleth himfelt before me, I will not bring the evil in his days; but in his fons days will I bring the evil upon his houfe.

is ours and we be still, and take it not out of the hand of the king of Syria?

4 And he faid unto Jehoihaphat, Wilt thou go with me to battle to Ramoth-gilead? And Jehoshaphat faid to the king of Ifracl, i am as thou art, my people as thy people, my horfes as thy horfes.

5 And Jehoshaphat faid unto the king of Hirael, Enquire, I pray thee, at the word of the LORD to day.

6 Then the king of Ifrael gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and faid unto them, Shall I go again Ramoth-gilcad to battle, or thall I forbear? And they faid, Go up; for the LORD fhall deliver it into the hand of the king.

7 And johofhaphat faid, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD befides, that we might enquire of him?

And the king of Israel faid into Jchothaphat, There is yet one man, Micaiah, the fon of Imlah, by whom we may enquire of the LORD; but I hate him, for he doth not prophefy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehothaphat raid, Let not the king fay fo. 9 Then the king of Ifrael called an officer and faid, Halten hither Micaiah, the fon of Imlah..

10 And the king of Ifrael, and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, fat each on his throne, having put on their robes in a void place, in the entrance of the gate of Samaria: and all the prophets prophefied before them.

11 And Zedekiah, the fon of Chenaanah, made him horns of iron, and he faid, Thus faith the LORD, With thefe thait thou puih the Syrians, until thot have confumed them.

12 And all the prophets prophefied fo, faying, Go up to Ramoth-gileat and profper: for the LORD fhall deliver it into the kings

band.

13 And the meffenger that was gone to call Micaiah fpake unto him, faying, Behold now, the words of the prophets declare good unto the king with one mouth; let thy word, 1 pray thee, be like the word of one of them, and fpeak that which is good.

14 And Micaiah faid, As the LORD liveth, what the LORD faith unto me, that will speak.

15 So he came to the king. And the king said unto him, Micaiah, Thall we go againit Ramoth-gilead to battle, or fhall we forbear? And he answered him, Go, and profper: for the LORD thall deliver it into the hand of the king.

16 And the king faid unto him, How many times thall I adjure thee that thou tell me nothing but that which is truc in the name of the LORD?

17 And he fald, I faw all Ifrael feattered upon the hills, as theep that have not a fhepherd: and the LORD said, Thefe have no mafter; let them return every man to his houfe in peace.

18 And the king of Ifrael said unto Jehofhaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would prophesy no good concerning ing, but evil?

10 And haid, Hear thai, therefore, the word of the Loud: 1 faw the LORD fitting on his throne, and all the hott of heaven Hand ng by aim, onghis right hand and on his left.

20 And the LORD faid, Who fhall perfuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth gilead? And one faid on this manner, and another faid on that manner.

21 And there came forth a fpirit, and stood before the LORD, and faid, I will perfuade him.

22 And the LORD faid unto him, Wherewith? And he faid, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he faid, Thou thalt perfuade him, and prevail alfo: go forth, and do to.

23 Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying fpirit in the mouth of all thefe thy prophets, and the LORD hathi fpoken evil, concerning thee.

24 But Zedekiah, the fon of Chenaanah, went near, and fmo e Micaiah on the cheek, and faid, which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto thee?

25 And Micaiah faid, Behold, thou thait fee in that day, when thou fhalt go into an inner chamber to lude thyfelf.

26 And the king of Ifrael faid, Take Micaiah, and carry him back unto Amon the governor of the city, and to Joath the kings. fon;

27 And fay, Thus faith the king, Put this, feller in the prison, and feed him with bread of affiction, and with water of affliction, until I come in peace,

28 And Micaiah faid, if thou return at all in peace, the LORD hath not spoken by me. And he faid, Hearken, O people, every one of you.

29 So the king of Ifrael, and Jchothaphat, the king of Judah, went up to Ramoth-gilead.

30 And the king of Ifrael faid unto JehoThaphat, I will difguie nyfelf, and enter into the battle, but put thou on thy robes. And the king of Ifrael difguiled himfelf, and went into the battle.

31 But the king of Syria commanded his thirty and two captains, that had rule over his chariots, faying, Fight neither with fmall nor great, lave only with the king of Ifrael.

32 And it came to pais, when the captains of the chariots faw Jehoshaphat, that they faid, Surely it is the king of Ifrael. And they turned afide to fight againit him: and Jehoshaphat cried out.

33 And it came to pafa, when the captains of the chariots perceived that it was not the king of Hract, that they turned back from purfuing him.

34 And a terinin man drew a bow at a venture, and finote the king of Ifrael between the joints of the harness: wherefore. he laid unto the driver of his chariot, Turn thing band, and carry me out of the holt; for I am wounded.

35 And the battle increafed that day; and the king was Itayed up in libs chariot againit the Syrians, and died at even: and the blood ran out of the wound into the midst of the charit.

36 And there wen 1 proclamation throughout the holt, about the going down of the sun, faying, Every man to his city, and every man to bis own country.

37 So the king died, and was brought to Samtria: and they buried the king in Samaria.
