Know ye that the Lord He is God; it is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves;

We are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise;

Be thankful unto Him, and bless His Name.

For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endureth to all generations.

LESSED be the Lord God of Israel; for He hath visited and redeemed His people:

And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us, in the house of His servant David;

As He spake by the mouth of His holy Prophets, which have been since the world began;

That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us.

LLELUIA. Blessing, and honor, and glory, and power, Be unto Him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.

Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory, and honor, and power:

For Thou hast created all things: and for Thy pleasure they are and were created.

And worthy is the Lamb that was slain, to receive power, and riches, and wisdom,

And strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing.

Unto Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood;

And hath made us kings and priests, unto God and His Father, to Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

I

THE APOSTLES' CREED.

To be said by the Minister and People.

BELIEVE in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth:

And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary; Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried; The third day He rose from the dead; He ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost; The holy Church universal, the Communion of Saints; The Forgiveness of sins; The Resurrection of the body; and the Life everlasting. Amen.

Or this:

I

BELIEVE in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And of all things visible and in

visible:

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, Begotten of His Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, Begotten, not made, Being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things were made; Who, for us men, and for our salvation, came down from heaven, And was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary, And was made man, and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried; And the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; And ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of the Father. And He shall come again with glory to judge both the quick and the dead; Whose kingdom shall have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of

life, Who proceedeth from the Father and the Son, Who, with the Father and the Son together, is worshiped and glorified, Who spake by the prophets.

I believe in one holy Church universal, And I look for the resurrection of the dead, And the life of the world to come. Amen.

THE Lord be with you.

Answer. And with thy spirit.

Minister. Let us pray.

[All Kneeling.]

O Lord, show Thy mercy upon us.

Answer. And grant us Thy salvation.

Minister. O God, make clean our hearts within us.

Answer. And take not Thy Holy Spirit from us.

A COLLECT FOR PEACE.

GOD, who art the author of peace and lover of concord, in knowledge of whom standeth our eternal life, whose service is perfect freedom, defend us Thy humble servants in all assaults of our enemies; that we, surely trusting in Thy defence, may not fear the power of any adversaries, through the might of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A COLLECT FOR GRACE.

LORD, our heavenly Father, Almighty and everlasting God, who hast safely brought us to the beginning of this day; defend us in the same with Thy mighty power; and grant that this day we fall into no sin, neither run into any kind of danger; but that all our doings, being ordered by Thy governance, may be righteous in Thy sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A PRAYER FOR THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES,

[ocr errors]

And all in Civil Authority.

LORD, our heavenly Father, the high and mighty Ruler of the universe, who dost from Thy throne behold all the dwellers upon earth; most heartily we beseech Thee, as for the people of these United States in general, so especially for Thy servants, the President, the Governor of this State, and all in judicial and executive authority. Incline them to Thy will, and lead them in Thy way. Replenish them with the grace of Thy Holy Spirit, and endue them with heavenly wisdom and righteousness. (We beseech Thee also for our Senate and Representatives in Congress assembled, as well as for the Legislature of our State now in session, that Thou wouldst be pleased to direct all their consultations, to the advancement of Thy glory, the good of Thy Church, the safety, honor and welfare of Thy people.)

May all things be so ordered and settled by their endeavors, upon the best and surest foundations, that peace and happiness, truth and justice, religion and piety, may be established among us for all generations. These and all other necessaries, for them, for us, and Thy whole. Church, we humbly beg in the Name and Mediation of Jesus Christ, our most blessed Lord and Saviour. Amen.

A PRAYER FOR MINISTERS AND PEOPLE.

ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, from whom cometh every good and perfect gift; Send down upon all Ministers of Thy Word, and upon the congregations committed to their charge, the healthful Spirit of Thy grace; and, that they may truly please Thee, pour upon them the continual dew of Thy blessing. Grant this, O Lord, for the honor of our Advocate and Mediator, Jesus Christ. Amen.

O

A PRAYER FOR ALL CONDITIONS OF MEN.

GOD, the Creator and Preserver of all mankind, we humbly beseech Thee for all sorts and conditions of men; that Thou wouldst be pleased to make Thy ways known unto them, Thy saving health unto all nations. More especially we pray for Thy holy Church universal; that it may be so guided and governed by Thy good Spirit, that all who profess and call themselves Christians may be led into the way of truth, and hold the faith in unity of spirit, in the bond of peace, and in righteousness of life. We also commend to Thy fatherly goodness all those who are any ways afflicted, or distressed, in mind, body, or estate; that it may please Thee to comfort and relieve them, according to their several necessities; giving them patience under their sufferings, and a happy issue out of all their afflictions. And this we beg for Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.

O

A PRAYER FOR THE IMPENITENT.

MERCIFUL God, who wouldst not the death of a sinner, but rather that he should be converted and live, and hast revealed Thyself as pardoning iniquity through Thine only Son: We beseech Thee to have mercy upon the impenitent and unbelieving, especially upon such as may be here present. Awaken in them by Thy Holy Spirit a deep sense of their sinfulness and peril. Take from them all ignorance, hardness of heart, and contempt of Thy Word. Make them to know and feel that there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby they must be saved, but only the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. And so fetch them home, and number them among Thy children, that they may be Thine for ever, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Spirit, One God, world without end. Amen.
