spread, and godliness more and more prevail; and may all who profess the faith of Christ walk worthy of their vocation. We pray that the blessings of that liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, may be extended and preserved among all people. Enlarge the borders of the Redeemer's kingdom, till all the ends of the earth shall rejoice in His salvation. Increase and multiply upon us Thy mercy, that Thou, being our Ruler and Guide, we may so pass through things temporal, that finally we lose not the things eternal. These things, and whatever else Thou seest to be good for us and our country, and for all the people and nations of the earth, we ask, through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ, our blessed Lord and Saviour. Amen.

THE COLLECT

To be used instead of that for the day.

MOST merciful Father, who hast blessed the labors of the husbandman in the returns of the fruits of the earth; we give Thee humble and hearty thanks for this Thy bounty; beseeching Thee to continue Thy lovingkindness to us; that our land may still yield her increase, to Thy glory and our comfort; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

AD

PRAYER

After the Sermon.

DORABLE and everliving God, who art the Giver of all good, grant, we beseech Thee, that the words which we have now heard, and the occasion on which we are permitted at this time to meet together, may, through Thy grace, awaken in our minds a thankful sense of Thy great goodness. Accept our repeated thanks for the goodly heritage which Thy bounty has bestowed upon us; for the civil and religious privileges which we enjoy, and for all the benefits still continued to this our favored country. We thankfully acknowledge that it is of Thy goodness that these United States have been preserved through many perils, and advanced in prosperity to an honorable name among the nations of the earth. We praise Thee for the many blessings vouchsafed to us, and to the people of this State in which we live, during the year which is now drawing towards an end. May a deep and permanent sense of Thy goodness engage our hearts and lives in Thy fear and service. Help us to enjoy the bounty which Thy hand bestows, with temperance and sobriety, and with thankfulness to Thee. Bless, O Lord, our churches and all our religious institutions, and enlarge the borders of the Redeemer's kingdom, till all the ends of the earth shall see and rejoice in Thy salvation. We present these our thankful offerings in the name and through the merits of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ; to whom, with Thee and the Divine Spirit, be rendered unceasing praise. Amen.

OPENING SENTENCE.

ET the words of our mouths, and the meditations of our hearts, be acceptable in Thy sight, O Lord, our Strength and our Redeemer.

DE

ADDRESS.

EAR CHILDREN: The great goodness of our heavenly Father has permitted us once more to meet on His holy Sabbath. Let us unite to praise Him for the blessings we enjoy, to acknowledge our sinfulness before Him, and to ask the continuance of His mercies to us for the time to come. He has promised to hear us when we pray, and to grant us the mercies for which we ask, in the blessed name of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Let us now, therefore, unite our hearts in humble and affectionate prayer to Him.

AL

CONFESSION.

LMIGHTY and most merciful Father: We have erred and strayed from Thy ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against Thy holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; And we have done those things which we ought not to have done: And there is no health in us. But Thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare Thou those, O God, who confess their faults. Restore Thou those who are penitent; According to Thy promises declared unto mankind, in Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for His sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life; To the glory of Thy holy Name. Amen.

PRAYERS.

ALM

LMIGHTY God, our heavenly Father, enable us to worship Thee in spirit and in truth. We praise Thee, as our Divine Creator, in whom we live, and move, and have our being. We bless Thee, as our gracious Redeemer, who hast borne our sins on the Cross, and died and risen again for us, that we might have eternal life in Thee. We adore Thee, as our heavenly Comforter and Sanctifier, by whose power alone we can become new creatures, and live to the glory of our God. In Thine hand, O Lord, our breath is, and Thine are all our ways. May we be enabled truly to live for Thee, and be made partakers of Thy glory, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Our Father in heaven, we unite to praise Thee this day for all the blessings and privileges which we enjoy. Great and manifold have been Thy mercies to us. We bless Thee for the return of another holy Sabbath, for the opportunity which Thou hast granted us to meet in Thy house, to hear and study Thy holy word, to sing Thy praise, and to make known our wants to Thee in prayer. Wilt Thou graciously meet us this day, and teach and guide us all, by Thine own Holy Spirit. Enable us to remember Thy commandments, to reverence Thy holy day, and truly to improve the privileges of Thy house. May we understand Thy Word, and love Thy Law, and accept and embrace Thy Gospel. Under Thy teaching, may we become wise unto salvation; and by the aid of Thy Holy Spirit be thoroughly furnished unto all good works. This day may we learn more of Thee, that we may love Thee better; and more of ourselves, that we may be more sorry for our sins, and truly seek Thy forgiveness. May our hearts be made more grateful for the many and great blessings which we enjoy, and more desirous and determined to serve Thee faithfully to the end of our lives. And in all our duties and services, wilt Thou graciously pardon and accept us, for the sake of Jesus Christ our blessed Lord and Saviour. Amen.

OUR

UR Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name: Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven: Give us this day our daily bread; And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us: And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

THE grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with us all evermore.

Amen.

NOTE.-The Superintendent should take care that all the Teachers and Children join with him in repeating the Confession and the Lord's Prayer.

MY

ADDRESS.

́Y DEAR CHILDREN: It is a great privilege to be permitted thus to meet in our Sunday-school. Our blessed Saviour has commanded us to search the Scriptures, because they testify of Him. It should be our delight, therefore, to study God's holy Word, and we should ask the help of His Holy Spirit, that we may understand and love it. For this purpose we meet together here. But we can do no good thing without the help of God. Every good and perfect gift cometh down from Him. Let us therefore unite together to ask His presence and blessing with us, while we are here assembled.

ALM

OUR

PRAYERS.

UR gracious and heavenly Father, we would come before Thee with the deepest humility of spirit. We acknowledge our past neglect of Thy mercies to us, and our failure in their due improvement. We have been too unthankful for Thy blessed gospel, and too heedless of the precious influences of Thy Holy Spirit. We pray Thee to forgive us all that is past, for Jesus' sake. May His death for our sins be mercifully applied to us. May we be graciously accepted through His merits. And wilt Thou this day meet us and bless us in His name, that we may glorify Thee for ever. Amen.

O God, the Author and Giver of every good gift, we beseech Thee to give us new hearts, and to renew a right spirit within us, that we may daily follow the example of our Saviour Christ, and be made more and more like Him. May we take His yoke upon us and learn of Him to be meek and lowly in heart. Like Him, may it be our meat and drink to do Thy holy will. Let Thy Holy Spirit teach us how to pray. Enlighten our minds, that we may understand Thy Word. May we strive to enter in at the strait gate, and walk in the new and heavenly way which Thou hast opened. And now, while Thou art speaking to us in so much mercy, suffer us not to harden our hearts against Thy truth; but graciously make us obedient and holy, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Our heavenly Father, we beseech Thee to bless all our beloved relations and friends with heavenly blessings in Christ Jesus. Comfort and support them in all their sorrows and troubles with the consolations of Thy blessed Spirit. May our earthly parents, and our brothers and sisters, always be the children of our heavenly Father. May our Pastor, whom Thou hast set over us in Thy house, be a faithful shepherd and guide to us, and may we be able to profit and improve much by His instructions. Let all Thy ministers be strengthened with Thy heavenly grace, and let the knowledge of Thy gospel be spread through all nations. Have pity upon the multitudes who are destitute of the privileges which we enjoy. Be merciful to the heathen who know Thee not, and the people who call not on Thy name, that they may hear Thy truth, and turn to Thee and live. Let Thy gracious presence be with all of us in the duties of this day. May both teachers and scholars be truly instructed in Thy holy Word and Will by Thine own Spirit. And wilt thou accept us in all our prayers and praise, and bless us in all our works begun, continued, and ended in Thee, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
