CORNELL,

JOHN HENRY CORNELL.

CHARLES WESLEY

783 Love, the test of discipleship.

Increase our faith, confirm our hope, 1 OUR God is love; and all his saints

And perfect us in love. His image bear below:

5 Up into thee, our living Head, The heart with love to God inspired,

Let us in all things grow, With love to man will glow.

Till thou hast made us free indeed, 2 Teach us to love each other, Lord,

And spotless here below. As we are loved by thee;

6 Then, when the mighty work is wrought, None who are truly born of God

Receive thy ready bride: Can live in enmity.

Give us in heaven a happy lot

With all the sanctified. 3 Heirs of the same immortal bliss,

Our hopes and fears the same,
With bonds of love our hearts unite, 785

The loadstone of His love.
With mutual love inflame.

1 JESUS, united by thy grace, 4 So may the unbelieving world

And each to each endeared, See how true Christians love;

With confidence we seek thy face, And glorify our Saviour's grace,

And know our prayer is heard. And seek that grace to prove.

2 Still let us own our common Lord, THOMAS COTTERILI..

And bear thine easy yoke; 784

A band of love, a threefold cord,
The law of Christ.

Which never can be broke.
1 TRY us, O God, and search the ground 3 Make us into one spirit drink;
Of every sinful heart;

Baptize into thy name; Whate'er of sin in us is found,

And let us alway kindly think, O bid it all depart.

And sweetly speak, the same. 2 If to the right or left we stray,

4 Touched by the loadstone of thy love, Leave us not comfortless;

Let all our hearts agree, But guide our feet into the way

And ever toward each other move, Of everlasting peace.

And ever move toward thee.
3 Help us to help each other, Lord,
Each other's cross to bear;

Doxology.
Let each his friendly aid afford,
And feel his brother's care.

TO Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,

The God whom we adore, 4 Help us to build each other up,

Be glory, as it was, is now, Our little stock improve;

And shall be evermore!

Rejoicing in hope. 1 Lift up your hearts to things above,

Ye followers of the Lamb,
And join with us to praise his love,

And glorify his name. 2 To Jesus' name give thanks and sing,

Whose mercies never end: Rejoice! rejoice! the Lord is King;

The King is now our friend ! 3 We for his sake count all things loss;

On earthly good look down; And joyfully sustain the cross,

Till we receive the crown. 4 O let us stir each other up,

Our faith by works to approve, By holy, purifying hope,

And the sweet task of love.
5 Let all who for the promise wait,

The Holy Ghost receive;
And, raised to our unsinning state,

With God in Eden live :
6 Live, till the Lord in glory come,

And wait his heaven to share: He now is fitting up your home;

Go on, we'll meet you there.

3 Behold the innumerable host

Of angels clothed in light! Behold the spirits of the just,

Whose faith is turned to sight! 4 Behold the blest assembly there,

Whose names are writ in heaven, And God, the Judge of all, declare

Their vilest sins forgiven! 5 The saints on earth and all the dead

But one communion make; All join in Christ, their living Head,

And of his grace partake. 6 In such society as this

My weary soul would rest : The man that dwells where Jesus is, Must be forever blest.

IS A AC WATTS.

787 Ye are come unto Mount Sion.

Heb. 12: 22. 1 NOT to the terrors of the Lor

The tempest, fre, and smoke; Not to the thunder of that word

Which God on Sinai spoke; 2 But we are come to Zion's bill,

The city of our God; Where milder words declare his will,

And speak his love abroad.

788 The bond of love.
1 The glorious universe around,

The heavens with all their train,
Sun, moon, and stars, are firmly bound

In one mysterious chain.
2 In one fraternal bond of love,

One fellowship of mind,
The saints below and saints above

Their bliss and glory find. 3 Here, in their house of pilgrimage,

Thy statutes are their song; There, through one bright, eternal age,

Thy praises they prolong. 4 Lord, may our union form a part

Of that thrice happy whole; Derive its pulse from thee, the heart, Its life from thee, the soul,

4 E'en now we think and speak the same,

And cordially agree,
United all, through Jesus' name,

In perfect harmony.
5 We all partake the joy of one;

The common peace we feel;
A peace to sensual minds unknown,

A joy unspeakable.
6 And if our fellowship below

In Jesus be so sweet,
What height of rapture shall we know

When round his throne we meet!

4 We laugh to scorn his cruel power

While by our Shepherd's side; The sheep he never can devour,

Unless he first divide.
5 ( do not suffer him to part

The souls that here agree;
But make us of one mind and heart,

And keep us one in thee.
6 Together let us sweetly live,

Together let us die;
And each a starry crown receive,

And reign above the sky.

791 Welcome to Church fellowship.

3 Thou only canst our wills control, 1 BRETHREN in Christ, and well beloved, Our wild, unruly passions bind, To Jesus and his servants dear,

Tame the old Adam in our soul, Enter, and show yourselves app:oved;

And make us of one heart and mind. Enter, and find that God is here.

4 Speak but the reconciling word, 2 Welcome from earth: lo, the right hand The winds shall cease, the waves sub Of fellowship to you we give!

side; With open hearts and hands we stand, We all shall praise our common Lord, And you in Jesus' name receive.

Our Jesus, and him crucified. 3 Jesus, attend; thyself reveal; Are we not met in thy great name?

SECOND PART. Thee in the midst we wait to feel;

We wait to catch the spreading fame. 793 One fold and one Shepherd. 4 Truly our fellowship below

1 GIVER of peace and unity, With thee and with the Father is:

Send down thy mild, pacific Dove; In thee eternal life we know,

We all shall then in one agree, And heaven's unutterable bliss.

And breathe the spirit of thy love. 5 Though but in part we know thee here, 2 We all shall think and speak the same We wait thy coming from above;

Delightful lesson of thy grace; And we shall then behold thee near,

One undivided Christ proclaim,
And be forever lost in love.

And jointly glory in thy praise.
CHARLES WESLEY.

3 O let us take a softer mold,

Blended and gathered into thee;
FIRST PART.

Under one Shepherd make one fold, 792 Striving together for the faith

Where all is love and harmony. of the gospel. 1 UNCHANGEABLE, almighty Lord,

4 Regard thine own eternal prayer, Our souls upon thy truth we stay;

And send a peaceful answer down; Accomplish now thy faithful word,

To us thy Father's name declare; And give, o give us all one way.

Unite and perfect us in one. 2 () let us all join hand in hand,

5 So shall the world believe and know Who seek redemption in thy blood; That God bath sent thee from above, Fast in one mind and spirit stand,

When thou art seen in us below, And build the temple of our God.

And every soul displays thy love.

The heavenly Guest invited.

4 In them let all mankind behold 1 SAVIOUR of all, to thee we bow,

How Christians lived in days of old; And own thee faithful to thy word;

Mighty their envious foes to move, We hear thy voice, and open now

A proverb of reproach--and love.

CHARLES WESLEY Our hearts to entertain our Lord. 2 Come in, come in, thou heavenly Guest; /

One now, one forever. Delight in what thyself hast given;

1 STILL one in life and one in death, On thy own gifts and graces feast,

One in our hope of rest above, And make the contrite heart thy heaven.

One in our joy, our trust, our faith, 3 Smell the sweet odor of our prayers; One in each other's faithful love; Our sacrifice of praise approve;

2 Yet must we part, and parting weep; And treasure up our gracious tears,

What else has earth for us in store? Who rest in thy redeeming love.

Our farewell pangs, how sharp and deep! 4 Beneath thy shadow let us sit:

Our farewell words, how sad and sore! Call us thy friends, and love, and bride, 3 Yet shall we meet again in peace, And bid us freely drink and eat

To sing the song of festal joy, Thy dainties, and be satisfied.

Where none shall bid our gladness cease, CHARLES WESLEY,

And none our fellowship destroy:

4 Where none shall beckon us away, 795 Glorious and spotless.

Nor bid our festival be done; 1 JESUS, from whom all blessings flow,

Our meeting-time the eternal day, Great Builder of thy Church below,

Our meeting-place the eternal throne. If now thy Spirit move my breast,

5 There, hand in hand, firm-linked at lasta Hear, and fulfil thine own request.

And heart to heart enfolded all,

We'll smile upon the troubled past, 2 The few that truly call thee Lord, And wait thy sanctifying word,

And wonder why we wept at all.

HORATICS BONAR. And thee their utmost Saviour own,Unite and perfect them in one.

Doxology. 3 O let them all thy mind express,

PRAISE God, from whom all blessings flow; Stand forth thy chosen witnesses,

Praise him, all creatures here below; Thy power unto salvation show,

Praise bim above, ye heavenly host; And perfect holiness below.

Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost!

THOMAS KEN.
