This shall be my rest forever :* here will I dwell, for I have a delight therein.

I will bless her victuals with increase :* and will satisfy her poor with bread.

I will deck her priests with health:* and her saints shall rejoice and sing.

There shall I make the horn of David to flourish :* I have ordained a lantern for mine anointed.

As for his enemies, I shall clothe them with shame : * but upon himself shall his crown flourish.

Antiphon. The Lord hath chosen Sion to be an habitation for himself.

B

Short Chapter. Jeremiah 11. 20.

UT, O Lord of hosts, that judgest righteously, that triest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them for unto thee have I revealed my cause.

R. Thanks be to God.

Hymn. Vexilla Regis.

HE royal banners forward go;

TH The cross shines forth in mystic

glow;

Where he in flesh, our flesh who made,

Our sentence bore, our ransom paid.

Where deep for us the spear was dyed,

Life's torrent rushing from his side,

To wash us in that precious flood, Where mingled water flowed, and blood.

Fulfilled in all that David told
In true prophetic song of old;
Amidst the nations God, saith he,
Hath reigned and triumphed from the
tree.

O tree of beauty, tree of light!
O tree with royal purple dight!
Elect on whose triumphal breast
Those holy limbs should find their rest.
On whose dear arms, so widely flung,
The weight of this world's ransom hung,
The price of human kind to pay,
And spoil the spoiler of his prey.
O cross, our one reliance, hail!
This holy Passion-tide, avail
To give fresh merit to the saint,
And pardon to the penitent.

R. Deliver me, O Lord, from the wicked man.

V. From the evil man defend me.
Antiphon. The maid said.

SONG OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN
MARY

Magnificat. St. Luke 1, 46.

MY soul doth magnify the Lord:

and my spirit hath rejoiced in

God my Saviour.

For he hath regarded: the lowliness of his hand-maiden.

For behold, from henceforth: all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath magnified me: and holy is his Name.

And his mercy is on them that fear him throughout all generations.

He hath shewed strength with his arm he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.

He hath put down the mighty from their seat: and hath exalted the humble and meek.

He hath filled the hungry with good things and the rich he hath sent empty away.

He remembering his mercy hath holpen his servant Israel : as he promised to our forefathers, Abraham and his seed, forever.

Glory &c.

Antiphon. The maid said to Peter: surely thou art one of them, for thy speech bewrayeth thee.

ALM
