L. M.
The promised Comforter.
ORD, we believe to us and ourg
We wait the pentecostal powers,

The Holy Ghost sent down from heaven.
2 Assembled here with one accord,

Calmly we wait the promised grace,
The purchase of our dying Lord;

Come, Holy Ghost, and fill the place.
3 If every one that asks may find,

If still thou dost on sinners fall,
Come as a mighty rushing wind;

Great grace be now upon us all.
4 Ah! leave us not to mourn below,

Or long for thy return to pine;
Now, Lord, the Comforter bestow,

And fix in us the Guest divine.

The Saviour's legacy.
JESUS, we on the words

J. Spoken by thee while present here,
The Father in my name shall send

The Holy Ghost, the Comforter.
9 That promise made to Adam's race,

Now, Lord, in us, we pray, fulfil;
And give the Spirit of thy grace,

To teach us all thy perfect will.
8 That heavenly Teacher of mankind,
That Guide infallible, impart,
To bring thy sayings to our mind,
And write them on each faithful heart.

4 He only can the words apply,

Through which we endless life possess; Ana deal to each his legacy,

Our Lord's unutterable peace. 183

3d P. M. 4 68 & 2 89. Pleading the promise. 0

THOU that hearest prayer,

Attend cur humble cry;
And let thy servants share

Thy blessing from on high :
We plead the promise of thy word ;-
Grant us thy Holy Spirit, Lord !
2 If earthly parents hear

Their children when they cry;
If they, with love sincere,

Their children's wants supply;
Much more wilt thou thy love display,
And answer when thy children pray.
8 Our heavenly Father, thou;

We, children of thy grace ; () let thy Spirit now

Descend and fill the place ;
That all may feel the heavenly flame,
And all unite to praise thy Name.

i Our contrite hearts inspire; Kindle a flame of heavenly love

The pure celestial fire. 2 'Tis thine to soothe the sorrowing,

With guilt and fear oppress'd ; 'Tis thine to bid the dying live,

And give the weary rest.

3 Subdue the power of every sin,

Whate'rr that sin may be; That we, in singleness of heart,

Muy worship only thee. 4 Then with our spirits witness bear,

That we are sons of God; Redeemd from sin, and death, and hell,

Through Christ's atoning blood. 185

And full redemption bring; New tongues impart to speak the praise

Whose rays of heavenly love Amid our gloom and darkness sline,

And point our souls above;-

Let thy light within me shine;
All my guilty fears remove;
Fill me with thy heavenly love.
2 Speak thy pard'ning grace to me;
Set the burden'd sinner free ;
Lead me to the Lamb of God;
Wash me in his precious blood.
3 Life and peace to me impart;.
Seal salvation on my heart;
Breathe thyself into my breast, -
Ernest of immortal rest.
4 Let me never from thee stray;
Keep me in the narrow way;
Fill my soul with joy divine;
Keep me, Lord, forever thiné.

S. M.
Imploring His guidance.
COME, Spirit, Source of light;
Dispel the glooiny shades of night,

The darkness of the mind. 2 Now to our eyes display

The truth thy words reveal; Cause us to run the heavenly way,

Delighting in thy will.

8 Tby teachings make us know The myst'ries of thy love, The vanity of things below,

The joy of things above. 4 While through this maze we stray,

O spread thy beams abroad; Point out the dangers of the way,

And guide our steps to God.

11th P. M. 76, 76, 77, 76. Seeking His power and grace. FATHER of our dying Lord,

Remember is for good; O fulfil his faithful word,

And hear his speaking blood.
Give us that for which he prays :

Father, glorify thy Son;
Show his truth, and power, and grace,

And send the promise down.
9 True and faithful Witness, thou,

O Christ, the Spirit give;
Hast thou not received him now,

That we might now receive!
Art thou not the living Head I
Life to all thy limbs iinpart;
Shed thy love, thy Spirit shed,

In every waiting heart.
8 Holy Ghost, the Comforter,

The gift of Jesus, come
Glow our hearts to find thee nea

And swell to make thee room;
Present with us thee we feel;

Come, O come, and in us be; With us, in us, live and dwell,
