1st P. M. 6 lines 8s.

Let there be light. EXPAND

thy wings, celestial Dove, And, brooding o'er our nature's night, Call forth the ray of heavenly love,

And let there in our souls be light;
Illuminate the dark abyss
With glorious beams of endless bliss.
2 Let there be light, again command,

And light there in our hearts shall be; We then, through faith, shall understand

Thy great mysterious majesty; And, by the shining of thy grace, Behold in Christ thy giorious face. 191

C. M. His quickening power. COMEL an Ihy? quick’ning powers :

Holy Spirit, heavenly Dove, Kindle a flame of sacred love

In these cold hearts of ours. 2 Look how we grovel here below,

Fond of these earthly toys; Our souls, how heavily they go,

To reach eternal joys. 8 In vain we tune our formal songs,

In vain we strive to rise; Hosannas languish on our tongues,

And our devotion dies.
4 Father, and shall we ever live

At this poor dying rate;
Our love so faint, so cold to thee,

And thine to us so great! 5 Come, Holy Spirit, heavenly Dove, 11

With all thy quick 'ning powers; Come, shed abroad a Saviour's love,

And that shall kindle ours. HALO

S. M.
The day of Pentecost.

Ghost!
In this accepted bour,
As on the day of Pentecost,

Descend in all thy power. 2 We meet with one accord

In our appointed place,
And wait the promise of our Lord;-

The Spirit of all grace.
3 Like mighty rushing wind

Upon the waves beneath,
Move with one impulse every mind;

One soul, one feeling breathe. 4 The young, the old, inspire

With wisdom from above;
And give us bearts and tongues of fire,

To pray, and praise, and love. 5 Spirit of light, explore,

And chase our gloom away, With lustre shining more and more,

Unto the perfect day. 6 Spirit of truth, be thou

In life and death, our guide; o Spirit of adoption, now

May we be sanctified, 195

L. M. The plenitude of His grace and power. 0

SPIRIT of the living God,

In all thy plenitude of grace, Where'er the foot of man hath trod,

Descend on our apostate race. 2 Give tongues of fire, and hearts of love,

To preach the reconciling word; Give power and unction from above,

Where'er the joyful sound is heard.

3 Author of our new creation,

May we all thine influence prove; Make our souls thy habitation,-

Shed abroad the Saviour's love. 4 Source of sweetest consolation,

Breathe thy peace on all below; Bless, O bless this congregation;

On ench soul thy grace bestow! 198

P. M. 84, 84.
The Source of every good gift.
UR blest Redeemer, ere be breathed

His last farewell,
A Guide,-- Comforter, bequeath'd,

With us to dwell.
2 He comes, his graces to impart;

A willing guest,
While he can find one humble heart

Wherein to rest.
8 And all the good that we possess,

His gift we own;
Yea, every thought of holiness,

And vict'ry won.
4 Spirit of purity and grace,

Our weakness see;
O make our hearts thy dwelling-place,

And worthier thee. 199

9th P. M. 87, 87, 87, 87.

Guide and Comforter. TOLY Spirit! Fount of blessing, Thy celestial aid possessing,

Prison'd souls deliverance find.
Seal of truth, and bond of union,

Source of light, and flame of love,
Symbol of divine communion,
In the olive-bearing dove;
