S. M.
Claiming the promise.

we look to thee,
Thy promised presence claim;
Thou in the midst of us shalt be,

Assembled in thy name :
2 Thy name salvation is,

Which here we come to prove :
Thy name is life, and health, and peace,

And everlasting love.
3 Not in the name of pride

Or selfishness we meet;
From nature's paths we turn aside,

And worldly thoughts forget. 4 We meet the grace to take,

Which thou hast freely given;
We meet on earth for thy dear sake,

That we may meet in heaven. 6 Present we know thoa Art,

But O, thyself reveal!
Now, Lord, let every bounding heart

The mighty comfort feel.
6 O may thy quick’ning voice

The death of sin remove;
And bid our inmost souls rejoice,

In hope of perfect love. 36

1st P. M. 6 lines 8a.
God is in this place.
O! God is here ! let us adore,
Let all within us feel his power,

And silent bow before his face ;
Who know his power, his grace who prove,
Serve him with awe, with rey'rence love.

9 Lo! God is here ! him day and night

United choirs of angels sing:
To him, enthroned above all height,

Heaven's host their noblest praises bring;
Disdain pot, Lord, our' meaner song,
Who praise thee with a stamm'ring tonguo.
8 Being of heings ! may our praise

Thy courts with grateful fragrance fill;
Still may we stand before thy face,

Still lear and do thy soy'reigu will;
To thee may all our thoughts arise,
Ceaseless, accepted sacrifice.

S. M.
The presence and grace of Jesus.

THOU wno art the light

Of all thy saints below,
That we may worship thee aright,

Thy sov'reign grace bestow,
2 Our rising world obey'd

Thy Godhead's bigh command:
And all the heavenly host are sway'd

By thy creating band.
8 Yet all things made anew

To wond'ring mortals seem,
When the Eternal Word we view

Descending to redeem.
40, be thou present now,

And make thy mercy known,
While at thy footstool, Lord, we bow.

And our Deliv'rer own.
6 Then shall we live to thee,

And honour this thy day;
Thine own devoted servants bo,

And never from the stray.

C. M.

A blessing on the word.

Om God ;

[ocr errors][ocr errors]

Once more his blessing ask : O may not duty seem a load,

Nor worship prove a task. 9 Father, thy quick’ning Spirit send

From heaven, in Jesus' name, And bid our waiting minds attend,

And put our souls in frame.
8 May we receive the word we hear,

Each in an honest heart;
And keep the precious treasure there,

And never with it part.
4 To seek thee, all our hearts dispose ;

To each thy blessings suit;
And let the seed thy servant sows,

Produce abundant fruit. 39

C. M.
God's service delightful.

Which God has call'd his own;
With joy the summons we obey,

To worship at his throne.
2 Thy chosen temple, Lord, how fair!

As here thy servants throng
To breathe the humble, fervent prayer,

And pour the grateful song.
3 Spirit of grace! O deign to dwell

Within thy Church below; Make her in holiness excel,

With pure devotion glow.
4 Let peace within her walls be found

Let all her sons unite,
To spread with holy zea! around,

Her clear and shining light.

6 Great God, we hail the sacred day

Which thou bast call'd thine own;
With jog the summons we obey,

To worship at thy throne.

5th P. M. 4 lines 79 God's glorious perfections celebrated. CLORY be to God on high, u God, whose glory fills the sky; Peace on earth to man forgiven, Man, the well-beloved of Heaven. 2 Sov'reign Father, heavenly King, Thee we now presiime to sing; Glad thine attributes confess, Glorious all, and numberless. 3 Hail, by all thy works adored! Hail, the everlasting Lord! Thee with thankful hearts wa prove, God of power, and God of love. 4 Christ our Lord and God we own, Christ, the Father's only Son; Lamb of God for sinners slain, Saviour of offending man. 5 Jesus, in thy name we pray, Take, O take our sins away; Bow thine ear, in mercy bow, Hear, the world's atonement, Thou ! 6 Henr, for thou, O Christ, alone, Art with thy great Father one; One the Holy Ghost with thee; One supreme eternal Three.

5th P. M. 4 lines in Humble adoration. HEAVENLY Father, Bov'reigo Lord, 11 Be thy glorious Name adored. Lord, thy mercies never fil; Hail, celestial Goodness, hail!

2 Though unworthy of thino ear,
Deign our humble songs to hear;
Purer praise we hope to bring,
When around thy throne we sing.
8 While on earth ordain'd to stay,
Guide our footsteps in thy way,
Till we come to dwell with thee,
Till we all thy glory see.
4 Then, with angel-harps again,
We will wake a nobler strain;
There, in joyful songs of praise,
Our triunphant voices raise.

C. M.
The fulness of God.
EING of beings, God of love,

; Thy all-sustaining power we prove,

Aud gladly sing thy praise.
2 Thine, wholly thine, we pant to be;

Our sacrifice receive :
Made, and preserved, and saved by thee,

To thee ourselves we give.
3 Heavenward our every wish aspires,

For all thy mercy's store;
The sole return thy love requires,

Is that we ask for more.
4 For more we ask ; we open then

Our hearts to embrace thy will; Turn, and revive us, Lord, again;

With all thy fulness fill.
5 Come, Holy Ghost, the Saviour's love

Shed in our hearts abroud;
So shall we ever live, and move,

And be, with Christ in God.
