3 How careful then ought I to live;
With what religious fear;
For my behaviour here,
The watchful power bestow;
To all I speak or do.
O let me feel thee near;
I at thy bar appear.
And wakes the gen'ral doom.
Her dissolution mourns ;
The sun to darkness turns.
The frighted dead arise,
And lift their ghastly eyes.
They quake, they shriek, they cry: Bd rocks and mountains on them fall;
But rocks and mountains fly.
Prepare as for that day :
To watch, and wait, and pray.
S. M. The solemn midnight cry. THOU Judge of quick and dead,
Before whose brir severe, With boly joy or guilty dread,
We all shall soon appear;
For that tremendous day,
And stir us up to pray:
That awful hour unknown,
Thou shalt from heaven conie down, The' immortal Son of man,
To judge the human race, With all thy Father's dazzling train,
With all thy glorious grace.
3 To damp our earthly jays,
To increase our gracious lears, Forever let the archangel's voice
Be sounding in our ears The solemn midnight cry,—
Ye dead, the Judge is come; Arise, and meet him in the sky,
And meet your instant doom. 4 O may we all be found
Obedient to thy word, Attentive to the trumpet's sound,
And looking for our Lord. O may we thus ensure
A lot among the blest; And watch a moment to secure
An everlasting rest.
When heaven and earth shall pass away!
Nor dread the Almighty's frown,
And shower his judgments down. 9 Sinners, expect those heaviest showers :
To meet your God, prepare ; For, lo! the seventh angel pours
His vial on the air. 3 Lo! from their seats the mountains leap;
The mountains are not found; Transported far into the deep,
And in the ocean drown'd.
And see the Judge severe !
O where shall I appear!
We may a place provide:
Of bell, our spirits hide :

Behold, He cometh ! LO O! He comes, with clouds descending,
Once for favour'd sinners slain; Thousand thousand saints, attending, Swell the triumph of his train :
Hallelujah! God appears on earth to reign. 2 Every eye shall now behold him
Robed in dreadful majesty; Those who set at naught and sold him, Pierced and nail'd him to the tree,
Still his dazzling body bears ;
With what rapture
High on thine eternal throne;
Jah! Jehovah !
