[Ps. 91. i. 1058.

1. CALL Jehovah thy salvation, Rest beneath th' Almighty's shade;

In his secret habitation

Dwell, nor ever be dismayed:
There no tumult can alarm thee,
Thou shalt dread no hidden snare;
Guile nor violence can harm thee,
In eternal safeguard there.

2. From the sword at noon-day wasting,
From the noisome pestilence,
In the depth of midnight blasting,
God shall be thy sure defence:
Fear not thou the deadly quiver,

When a thousand feel the blow;
Mercy shall thy soul deliver,

Though ten thousand be laid low. 3. Since, with pure and firm affection, Thou on God hast set thy love, With the wings of his protection, He will shield thee from above: Thou shalt call on him in trouble,

He will hearken, he will save, Here, for grief reward thee double, Crown with life beyond the grave.

[Hy. 317.

Purity of Heart desired.
1. Love divine, all love excelling,
Joy of heaven, to earth come down!
Fix in us thy humble dwelling,

All thy faithful mercies crown;
Jesus! thou art all compassion,

Pure, unbounded love thou art;
Visit us with thy salvation,

Enter every trembling heart.

2. Breathe, O breathe thy loving spirit
Into every troubled breast!
Let us all in thee inherit,

Let us find, thy promised rest:
Come, Almighty to deliver,
Let us all thy life receive!
Speedily return, and never,
Never more thy temples leave!
3. Finish then thy new creation,

Pure, unspotted may we be:
Let us see our whole salvation
Perfectly secured by thee!
Changed from glory into glory,

Till in heaven we take our place;
Till we cast our crowns before thee,
Lost in wonder, love, and praise.

Fill the earth as floods the sea.

4. Thou, to whom all power is given,
Speak the word; at thy command
Let the heralds of thy mercy

Spread thy name from land to land:
Lord, be with them,

Always, to the end of time,

The Day breaking.

[Hy. 458.

1 YES! we trust the day is breaking,
Joyful times are near at hand:
God, the mighty God, is speaking
By his word in every land:
God is speaking,-

Darkness flies at his command.

2. With the voice of joy and singing
Let us hail the dawning ray;
Lo! the blessed day-star, bringing
O'er the earth a glorious day:

At his rising,

Gloom and darkness flee away,

1. LORD, dismiss us with thy blessing,
Fill our hearts with joy and peace:
Let us each, thy love possessing,
Triumph in redeeming grace;
O refresh us,
Traveling through this wilderness.

2. Thanks we give and adoration,
For thy gospel's joyful sound;
May the fruits of thy salvation
In our hearts and lives abound;
May thy presence,

With us evermore be found.

3. So, whene'er the signal's given
Us from earth to call away,
Borne on angel's wings to heaven,
Glad the summons to obey,

May we ever

Reign with Christ in endless day.

[Hy. 110. 5. Sinners, wrung with true repentance,
Doomed for guilt to endless pains,
Justice now revokes the sentence,
Mercy calls you,-break your chains;
Come and worship,

1. ANGELS, from the realms of glory,
Wing your flight o'er all the earth,
Ye who sang creation's story,
Now proclaim Messiah's birth;
Come and worship,

Worship Christ the new-born King.

2. Shepherds, in the field abiding,

Watching o'er your flocks by night,
God with man is now residing,
Yonder shines the infant-light;

Come and worship,
Worship Christ the new-born King.

8. Sages, leave your contemplations,
Brighter visions beam afar;
Seek the great Desire of nations;
Ye have seen his natal star;

Come and worship,

Worship Christ the new-born King.

4. Saints, before the altar bending,
Watching long in hope and fear,
Suddenly the Lord, descending,
In his temple shall appear;
Come and worship,
Worship Christ the new-born King.

Worship Christ the new-born King.

1. ZION stands with hills surrounded-
Zion, kept by power divine:
All her foes shall be confounded,
Though the world in arms combine:
Happy Zion,

What a favored lot is thine!

2. Every human tie may perish;

Friend to friend unfaithful prove;
Mothers cease their own to cherish;
Heaven and earth at last remove;
But no changes

Can attend Jehovah's love.

3. In the furnace God may prove thee,
Thence to bring thee forth more bright,
But can never cease to love thee;
Thou art precious in his sight:
God is with thee-

God, thine everlasting light.

Mourning captive,

Streams of Salvation.

1. SEE, from Zion's sacred mountain, Streams of living water flow; God has opened there a fountain That supplies the world below: They are blesséd

[Hy. 454.

Who its sovereign virtues know.

2. Through ten thousand channels flowing,
Streams of mercy find their way;
Life, and health, and joy bestowing,
Waking beauty from decay:
O ye nations,

Hail the long-expected day.

3. Gladdened by the flowing treasure,
All enriching as it goes,

Lo! the desert smiles with pleasure,
Buds and blossoms as the rose:

Lo, the desert

Sings for joy where'er it flows.

[Hy. 489. 1071.

God himself will loose thy bands.

2. Has thy night been long and mournful?
Have thy friends unfaithful proved?
Have thy foes been proud and scornful!
By thy sighs and tears unmoved?
Cease thy mourning;
Zion still is well beloved.

9. God, thy God, will now restore thee;
He himself appears thy Friend;
All thy foes shall flee before thee;
Here their boasts and triumphs end:
Great deliverance
Zion's King will surely send.

4. Peace and joy shall now attend thee;
All thy warfare now is past;
God thy Saviour will defend thee;
Victory is thine at last:
All thy conflicts

End in everlasting rest.

1. DAY of judgment, day of wonders!
Hark! the trumpet's awful sound,
Louder than a thousand thunders,
Shakes the vast creation round:
How the summons

Will the sinner's heart confound!

2. See the Judge, our nature wearing,
Clothed in majesty divine!
You, who long for his appearing,
Then shall say,-"This God is mine!"
Gracious Saviour,

Own me in that day for thine.

3. At his call, the dead awaken,

Rise to life from earth and sea;
All the powers of nature, shaken
By his looks, prepare to flee:
Careless sinner,

What will then become of thee!

4. But to those who have confessed,

Loved and served the Lord below, He will say." Come near, ye blessed! See the kingdom I bestow:

You forever

Shall my love and glory know."
