Fix our affections on things above, and let time, and the things of time, be as nothing to us compared with eternal glory. Fit us for every thing between this and the grave; every service or suffering, every temptation and conflict. In all conditions and relations may we glorify thee, keep a good conscience, and welcome thy whole will with a lively hope, and holy joy, in thy salvation by Jesus Christ. When we come to die, may we have clear evidences for heaven, finish our course with joy, and an entrance be ministered unto us abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour.

Graciously afford us every personal and family blessing. Take us under thy protection this night: be with us in all our ways. through the following week. Help us to carry with us into every day, duty, and occurrence, the temper and sentiments of thy day. May we by this sabbath be brought nearer to, and made fitter for, a glorious eternal sabbath. Having joyfully remembered our Lord's resurrection, may we more ardently look for and hasten to his last coming, and our appearance with him in glory. In him may we be found and accepted, both living ving and dying; and to him with thyself, O Father, and the Spirit of grace and consola

tion, be honour and glory, dominion and praise, for ever. Amen.

Meditation for Monday Morning.

"Whereby are given to us exceeding great "and precious promises, promises justly styled "exceeding great and precious."-2 Peter i. 4.

Worthy indeed of all acceptation, of our warmest and most affectionate embraces; of our highest confidence and joy; for they are the words of God, the greatest and best of beings; his gracious words; the dictates of his infinite and undeserved goodness and love; words that speak the greatness of his mercy, and display all the perfections of his nature, in the most amiable light; their truth is ratified by the blood of the everlasting covenant, rendering all the divine promises to us, yea, and amen; God himself bearing witness by signs and wonders. They are offered to us with the most gracious freedom; so that whosoever will may come and partake of them; they will make us truly wise, holy, spiritual minded;-support us under the severest trials, and inspire us with the noblest magnanimity and elevation of soul; and, in a word, unite us to God, and make us partakers of his likeness and glory. O, my God, let me never neglect or des

pise these precious promises, nor let me ever hope for comfort from them, but in the way of real holiness, let me never never more despond in any of my trials and afflictions! Never doubt the power, the love, the faithfulness of that God who has given such words for my consolation! Here, Ŏ my soul, leave all thy burdens and cares! When discouraged and fainting, here be thy rest! These are the everlasting arms that strengthen and uphold all that fear God, that conduct them through life, deliver them in death, and ensure their complete and eternal salvation!

HYMN.

Begin my tongue, some heavenly theme,
And speak some boundless thing,
The mighty works, or mightier name
Of our eternal King.

Tell of his wondrous faithfulness,
And sound his power abroad,
Sing the sweet promise of his graee,
And the performing God.

Proclaim salvation from the Lord
For wretched dying men ;

His hand has writ the sacred word
With an immortal pen.

Engrav'd as in eternal brass
The mighty promise shines,
Nor can the powers of darkness rase
Those everlasting lines.

His very word of grace is strong
As that which built the skies,
The voice that rolls the stars along
Speaks all the promises.

PRAYER

For Monday Morning.

O thou glorious Majesty of heaven and earth, who art above the highest of all our thoughts, and much more beyond all our words, but that thou art great and mighty we know by thy works of wonder which we behold:-we see how good thou art by the large provision which thou hast made for all thy creatures; thy precepts teach us how just and holy thou art: by thy promises we know thou art gracious and bountiful, and by thy threatenings that thou hatest iniquity; when we consider all this, we may justly wonder at ourselves, that we should not fear thee, and reverence and love thee, and seek thy love and favour above all things.

Grant, O God of all grace, thine Holy Spirit, to renew again thine image on our souls: awaken our minds to a more lively remembrance of thee our Creator, our Redeemer, our tender-hearted Father in Christ Jesus. Sanctify our understandings that we may rightly conceive thy holy truths and more fully apprehend them :-sanctify our memory, that we may keep in mind all that we know of thee, and of thy blessed will revealed to us in Christ Jesus. Sanctify our will that we may cheerfully embrace, and entirely consent to thine in all things :- and sanctify all our affections that we may love thee with all our heart, and soul, and strength, and delight in thee more than in all the enjoyments of this life; and aim more at thy glory than all worldly preferments, and take more care for our souls than for all momentary pleasures; sanctify us throughout in body, soul, and spirit; for which end sanctify all our passions, that we may be angry at nothing so much as that we have displeased thee, and in holy indignation at ourselves, and humble dependance upon thy gracious aid, may we with more fervour and stedfastness watch and pray for the time to come.

Sanctify all our conversation with others, and all the employments of this life, that we may still be heavenly minded, and have a
