respect to our last end, and everlasting blessedness. Sanctify all the blessings of health, and strength, of peace and plenty, and friends; yea, and all the hopes and afflictions of this life, that they may make us more serious and considerate, and help more perfectly to purify our spirit, and dispose us more for the happiness of a world that is undefiled, and that fadeth not away.

Raise us, O Lord, to such an exceeding great delight in those holy thoughts and meditations, when we address ourselves to thee, that we may rather be unwilling to depart from thy presence than weary of conversing with thee and when we return to our other employments again, O that our minds may be often looking up to thee our God, our exceeding joy; desirous to be always with thee, and longing to enjoy thee in an unchangeable and perfect likeness to thee, and fellowship with the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, for ever and ever. Amen!

HYMN.

Lord I have made thy word my choice,
My lasting heritage;

There shall my noblest powers rejoice,
My warmest thoughts engage.

I'll read the histories of thy love,

[ocr errors]

And keep thy laws in sight,

While through the promises I rove
With ever fresh delight.

"Tis a broad land of wealth unknown,
Where springs of life arise,
Seeds of immortal bliss are sown,
And hidden glory lies.

The best relief that mourners have,
It makes our sorrows blest;
Our fairest hope beyond the grave,
And our eternal rest.

PRAYER

For Monday Evening.

O most gracious Lord God, the eyes of all wait upon thee; thou art the hope of all the ends of the earth. In thee we live, and move, and have our being: thou givest us life, and health, and all things. Still thou takest care of us, and watchest over us: even in the hours of sleep, when we are unable to take care for ourselves. Thy mercies are daily renewed; thy goodness is repeated every morning: yea, every moment dost thou give us fresh occasion of praise and thanksgiving. Blessed be thy name, for the peace, rest, and safety of the night past.

Enable us, in the strength of thy grace, and of thy gifts, to love thee truly, to serve thee faithfully, and to depend on thee without wavering. In all our ways, may we acknowledge thee; and be thou graciously pleased to establish our goings and to direct our path. We desire to put ourselves under thy gracious conduct, and thy fatherly protection. We beg the heavenly guidance, blessing, and assistance of thy good Spirit, to choose our inheritance for us, and to dispose of us, and all that concerns us, to the glory of thy great name. O Lord, withdraw not thy tender mercies from us, neither shut up thy lovingkindness in displeasure; but grant us, O good Lord, the comfortable sense and apprehension of thy free acceptance of us, and of thy gracious intentions towards us, in the Son of thy love, the lover of our souls; that our hearts may bless thee, and all that is within us may praise thy holy name. Lord, keep us from sin this day. Subdue, as well as pardon, our iniquities: and herein may we examine ourselves, to have always a conscience void of offence, both towards God, and towards man. Whilst upon earth, grant us a supply of all things needful for us in the house of our pilgrimage. Sanctify to us our enjoyments, and our employments, our comforts, and our crosses, every condition we

:

are to be in, and every event that shall befal us. Enable us to live to thy honour and glory and make us to pass through thing temporal, as neither to lose nor forget th things eternal. If thou enlighten us not w shall run into error; if thou prevent not w shall relapse into sin; if thou preserve us not we shall fall into dangers. O let thy good providence be our defence and security; and thy Holy Spirit be our comforter, guide, and counsellor, in all our ways: until through the merits of thy Son, and the multitude of thy mercies, we are called away, to be for ever with the Lord. Amen.

Meditation for Tuesday Morning.

"O sing unto the Lord a new song: sing unto the Lord, bless his name: shew forth "his salvation from day to day." Psalm xcvi. 1, 2.

Let our hearts echo this song of praise; let us sing unto the Lord a new song, an excellent song, a song with new affections, clothed with new expressions for new mercies; le: day unto day utter it, for his compassionare new every morning, and fresh every even ing. Let the whole earth join in this song let them give unto the Lord the glory du unto his name. Let them shew forth his

salvation from day to day; every new day brings new dangers and new deliverances; let his saving mercy be our daily song. Above all, let the gospel salvation be our new song: let all the redeemed of the Lord sing it, let all the earth learn it. Let us join with angels in singing glory to God in the highest; because to us is born a Saviour, and with him peace on earth, and good-will to men. Above all

let us sing that new song, which we hope to sing with saints and angels in the heavenly Jerusalem; worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us unto God, by thy blood, out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation. Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb, for ever, Amen.

HYMN.

Awake, and sing the song
Of" Moses and the Lamb;"
Wake ev'ry heart, and ev'ry tongue,
To praise the Saviour's name.
