heaven, and rulest over all. Let thy will be done, for thine is the power, and there is nothing too hard for thee: let thy name be sanctified, for thine is the glory, and thou hast set thy glory above the heavens.

Heavenly Father, supply all our wants, pardon our sins, and preserve us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, and thou art Lord over all, who art rich to all that call upon thee; none can forgive sin but thou only; let thy power be great in pardoning our sins, and since it is the glory of God to pardon sin, and to help the helpless, help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name deliver us, and purge away our sins for thy name sake.

We desire to praise thee for thou art great and greatly to be praised. Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and endures throughout all generations; the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre, thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness; to thee belongeth mercy, and thou renderest to every man according to his work. We praise thy power for thou hast a mighty arm, strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand, and yet judgment and justice are the habitation of thy throne, mercy and truth shall go before thy face. We praise thy glory, for the glory of the Lord shall endure for ever.

O let God be praised in the sanctuary, and praised in the firmament of his power, let him be praised for his mighty acts, and praised according to his excellent greatness; let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord; Hallelujah. Amen.

Meditation for Friday Morning.

THE NEW MAN.

Putting on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness."Eph. iv. 24.

The loss of God's image upon the soul, was both the sinfulness and misery of man's fallen state; and that resemblance which it bears to God, is the beauty, the glory, and the happiness of the new creation. Created anew by his own Spirit, in righteousness and true holiness, it bears the image of Him who created him. It bears the image of that Saviour in whom it is created anew, Christ Jesus. To put on the Lord Jesus, takes in the whole of a true Christian; all his duties towards God and man. Sin is not the Christian's element; his delight is in the law of the Lord; he loves it even where it most crosses the remains of corruption that are in him; he binds the strength of his soul to please God, that is to

live unto righteousness. It is not merely the study of his spare hours; no, it is his main business, his all. This life like the natural one, is seated in the heart, and from thence diffuses itself through the whole man: he loves righteousness and receiveth the truth in the love of it. The unrenewed man may do many things that, for their shell and outside, are righteous; but he lives not to righteousness because his heart is not possessed and ruled with the love of it. The new man not only forbears sin, but he hates it "I hate vain thoughts," and not only some sins, but all ::- "I hate every false way." While he dies to sin, sin dies in him; the mind dies to the study of sin; the hand dies to the acting of it; the ear to the hearing ofthings profane and sinful; the tongue to the world's dialect,-speaking guile.With this new creation, the soul is adorned with a sweet variety of gracious and heavenly dispositions. It is in their hearts a living source of love, joy, and peace, of long-suffering and gentleness, of goodness and faith, of meekness and temperance, and of all sorts of divine virtues; which, for this very reason, are in Holy Scripture styled, the "Fruits of the Spirit." 'Tis he that breathes into their souls those amiable and heavenly dispositions, whereby alone they can on good

ground be denominated meek, and humble, and patient; chaste and charitable and ready to forgive; these make the noblest endowments of the inward man,-these are the real beauties of the soul, that which truly perfects it, and renders it lovely and precious in the sight of God: but it is very certain that those holy dispositions which adorn the inward man, will also beautify the life, and render the conversation such as becomes the gospel, like the shining light, shining more and more unto the perfect day.

HYMN.

Attend while God's exalted Son,
Does his own glories shew;
Behold, I sit upon my throne,
Creating all things new.

I'll be a sun of righteousness,
To the new world I make;
None but the new born heirs of grace,
My glories shall partake.

Mighty Redeemer, set me free

From my old state of sin,
O make my soul alive to thee,
Create new pow'rs within.

Renew mine eyes, and form mine ears,
And mould my heart afresh,
Give me new passions, joys, and fears,
And turn the stone to flesh.

Far from the regions of the dead,
From sin, and earth, and hell,
In the new world that grace has made,
I would for ever dwell.

PRAYER

For Friday Morning.

O Lord, is it not thine own gracious promise" A new heart will I give them and a new spirit will I put within them?" We feel that we cannot live a new and better life till we have a new and better heart; alas ! we cannot in our own strength raise it from sin to holiness; from earth to heaven; from itself to God. What, therefore, shall we do with it, O our God, but bring it unto thee! Thou madest it a heart at first, and thou only canst make it a new heart now.

O do thou purify and refine it, and renew a right spirit within us; do thou take our hearts into thy hands, and mould them into a conformity to thy will; do thou but give us new hearts, then shall we become indeed new creatures; then shall we be the sons and
