Concluding hymn of General Praise. ALL nature, hear the facred fong! Attend, O earth, the folemn ftrain ! Ye whirlwinds wild that sweep along ; Ye darkening ftorms of beating rain; Umbrageous glooms, and forests drear ; And folitary deserts, hear!
Be ftill, ye winds, whilft to the Maker's praise The creatures of his power aspire their voice to raife.
O may the folemn breathing found Like incenfe rife before the throne, Where he, whofe glory knows no bound, Great cause of all things, dwells alone. "Tis he we fing, whofe powerful hand Balanc'd the skies, outspread the land; Who fpoke-from ocean's ftores fweet waters
And burft refplendent forth the heav'n-afpiring
3 One general fong of praise arife
To him whofe goodness ceafelefs flows; Who dwells enthron'd beyond the skies, And life, and breath, on all bestows. Great source of intellect, thine ear Benign receives our vows fincere :
Rife then, our active powers, your task fulfil, And give to him your praise, refponfive to our will. Partaker of that living stream
Of light, that pours an endless blaze, O let thy ftrong reflected beam, Our understanding, fpeak his praise :
Our fouls, in steadfast love fecure,
Praife him whose word is ever fure: To him, fole juft, our fenfe of right incline, Join every proftrate limb, our ardent spirits join. 5 Let all of good thefe bofoms fires, To him, fole good, give praifes due: Let all the truth himself infpires, Unite to fing him only true.
To him our every thought afcend, To him our hopes, our wishes, bend.
From earth's wide bounds let louder hymns
In ardent adoration join'd, Obedient to thy holy will, Let all our faculties combin'd, Thy juft defires, O God, fulfil. From thee deriv'd, eternal king,
To thee our nobleft powers we bring : O may thy hand direct our wandering way, O bid thy light arife, and chafe the clouds away. Eternal Spirit! whofe command Light, life, and being, gave to all; O hear the creature of thy hand, Man, conftant on thy goodness call: By fire, by water, air, and earth,
That foul to thee that owes its birth, By thefe, he supplicates thy bleft repose, Abfent from thee no reft his wandering fpirit knows.
AGAIN the Lord of life and light A God! A God! the wide earth shouts
Edinburgh Call. 121 Lorenzo de Medici translated by Roscoe 149
Faith adds new charms to earthly bliss Far from the world, O Lord! I flee Far from these scenes of night Father ador'd in worlds above! Father of all! in every age
Father of all! eternal mind! Father of all! omniscient mind!
Father of our feeble race,
From all that dwell below the skies

Hark! the glad sound the Saviour comes! Doddridge
Hear what the voice from heav'n proclaims Watts 121
How are thy servants blest, O Lord! How blest the sacred tie that binds How happy is he born and taught How still and peaceful is the grave How vast is the tribute I owe How rich thy gifts almighty King!
If solid happiness we prize Imposture shrinks from light In the soft season of thy youth In sleep's serene oblivion laid
Jehovah reigns! let every nation hear
Keep silence, all created things
Let children hear the mighty deeds Let coward guilt with pallid fear Let heav'n arise! let earth appear! Let party names no more Let us with a joyful mind Let men of high conceit and zeal Let none be envious when they see Let songs of praise from all below Lo, God is here! let us adore Lord dismiss us with thy blessing
