The darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide.
Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day ;
Thou on my head in early youth didst smile,
I need Thy presence every passing hour;
Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes ;
Thou canst save, and Thou canst heal.
Though the arrow past us fly,
e are safe if Thou art nigh.
Darkness cannot hide from Thee;
Watchest where Thy people be.
And our couch become our tomb,
Clad in bright and deathless bloom.
A - men.
For all we love, the poor, the sad,
The sinful, unto Thee we call ;
Thou art our Jesus, and our All !
Through night and darkness near us be;
And we are one day nearer Thee.
