Live happy in my Saviour's love,
And in his arms expire!

3 Mercy I ask to seal my peace,
That kept by mercy's power,
I may from every evil cease,
And never grieve thee more!
4 Now, if thy gracious will it be,
E'en now my sins remove,
And set my soul at liberty,
By thy victorious love.

5 In answer to ten thousand prayers,
Thou pard'ning God, descend:
Number me with salvation's heirs,
My sins and troubles end.

6 Nothing I ask or want beside,
Of all in earth or heaven:
But let me feel thy blood applied,
And live and die forgiven.

Hymn 30. P. M.

DROOPING soul, shake off thy fears,

Fearful soul, be strong, be bold;

Tarry till the Lord appears,

Never, never quit thy hold:
Murmur not at his delay,

Dare not set thy God a time,
Calmly for his coming stay,
Leave it, leave it all to him.

2 Fainting soul, be bold, be strong,
Wait the leisure of thy Lord;
Though it seem to tarry long,
True and faithful is his word.

On his word my soul I cast,
(He cannot himself deny)
Surely it shall speak at last:

It shall speak and shall not lie.
3 Every one that seeks shall find;
Every one that asks shall have:
Christ, the Saviour of mankind,
Willing, able all to save:
I shall his salvation see,
I in faith on Jesus call;
I from sin shall be set free,
Perfectly set free from all.

4 Lord, my time is in thy hand;
Weak and helpless as I am,
Surely thou canst make me stand,
I believe in Jesu's name;
Saviour, in temptation thou,

Thou hast sav'd me heretofore;
Thou from sin dost save me now,
Thou shalt save me evermore.

Hymn 31. C. M.

HY should the children of a King

W Go mourning all their days?

Great Comforter, descend, and bring
The tokens of thy grace!

2 Dost thou not dwell in all thy saints,
And seal the heirs of heaven?

When wilt thou banish my complaints, And show my sins forgiven?

8 Assure my conscience of her part In the Redeemer's blood:

And bear thy witness with my heart,
That I am born of God.

4 Thou art the earnest of his love,
The pledge of joys to come;
May thy blest wings, celestial Dove,
Safely convey me home.

Hyın 32. C. M.

MY drowsy powers, why sleep ye so?

Awake, my sluggish soul!

Nothing bath half thy work to do,
Yet nothing's half so dull.

2 Go to the ants; for one poor grain,
See how they toil and strive;

Yet we, who have a heaven t' obtain,
How negligent we live!

3 We, for whose sake all nature stands,
And stars their courses move;

We, for whose guard the angel-bands
Come flying from above:

4 We, for whom God the Son came down, And labour'd for our good,

How careless to secure that crown
He purchas'd with his blood.

5 Lord, shall we live so sluggish still,
And never act our parts?

Come, Holy Dove, from th' heav'nly hill,
And warm our frozen hearts.

6 Give us with active warmth to move,
With vig'rous souls to rise,

With hands of faith and wings of love,
To fly and take the prize,

[blocks in formation]

Tour inmost thoughts perceive,

HOU Son of God, whose flaming eyes

Accept the ev❜uing sacrifice,

Which now to thee we give.

2 We bow before thy gracious throne,
And think ourselves sincere:
But show us, Lord, is every one
Thy real worshipper?

3 Is here a soul that knows thee not,
Nor feels his want of thee?

A stranger to the blood which bought
His pardon on the tree?

4 Convince him now of unbelief,
His desp❜rate state explain:

And fill his heart with sacred grief,
And penitential pain.

5 Speak with that voice that wakes the dead, And bid the sleeper rise;

And bid his guilty conscience dread
The death that never dies:

6 Extort the cry, what must be done
To save a wretch like me?

How shall a trembling sinner shun
That endless misery?

7 I must this instant new begin
Out of my sleep to wake,
And turn to God, and every sin
Continually forsake.

8 I must for faith incessant cry,
And wrestle, Lord, with thee:
I must be born again, or die
To all eternity.

Hymn 34. C. M.

NOME, O thou all-victorious Lord,
Thy power to us make known:
Strike with the hammer of thy word,
And break these hearts of stone.

20 that we all might now begin
Our foolishness to mourn!
And turn at once from every sin,
And to the Saviour turn.

3 Give us ourselves and thee to know,
In this our gracious day;
Repentance unto life bestow,
And take our sins away.

Convince us first of unbelief,
And freely then release;
Fill every soul with sacred grief,
And then with sacred peace.

5 Impov'rish, Lord, and then relieve,
And then enrich the poor;
The knowledge of our sickness give,
The knowledge of our cure.

That blessed sense of guilt impart,
And then remove the load;
Trouble, and wash the troubled heart
In the atoning blood.

7 Our desp'rate state, through sin, declare, And speak our sins forgiven:

By perfect holiness prepare,
And take us up to heaven.
