2 See, Lord, the travail of thy soul,
Accomplish'd in the change of mine;
And plunge me, every whit made whole,
In all the depths of love divine!

3 On thee, O God, my soul is staid,

And waits to prove thine utmost will!
Thy promise by thy mercy made,
Thou canst, thou wilt in me fulfil.
4 No more I stagger at thy power,

1

Or doubt thy truth, which cannot move: Hasten the long-expected hour, And bless me with thy perfect love.

Hymn 116. L. M..

Be filled with the Spirit. Eph. v. 18.

JESUS, thy loving Spir't alone,

Can lead me forth, and make me free: Burst every bond through which I groan, And set my heart at liberty.

2 Now let thy Spirit bring me in,
And give thy servant to possess
The land of rest from inbred sin,
The land of perfect holiness.

3 Lord, I believe thy power the same,
The same thy truth and grace endure;
And in thy blessed hands I

am,

And trust thee for a perfect cure.

4 Come, Saviour, come, and make me whole; Entirely all my sins remove!

To perfect health restore my soul,
To perfect holiness and love..

Hymn 119. C. M.

Surely I come quickly. Rev. xxii. 20.

COM

NOME, O my God, the promise seal,
This mountain sin remove!

Now in my waiting soul reveal
The virtue of thy love.

2 I want thy life, thy purity,

Thy righteousness brought in:
I ask, desire, and trust in thee
To be redeem'd from sin.

3 For this, as taught by thee, I pray,
And can no longer doubt!
Remove from hence, to sin I say,
Be cast this moment out.

4 Anger and sloth, desire and pride,
This moment be subdued!
Be cast into the crimson tide
Of my Redeemer's blood.

5 Saviour, to thee my soul looks up,
My present Saviour thou!

In all the confidence of hope

I claim the blessing now!

"'Tis done; thou dost this moment save, With full salvation bless :

Redemption through thy blood I have, And spotless love and peace."

Hymn 120. I. M.

Hath quickened us together with Christ.
Eph. ii. 5.

1 QUICKEN'D with our immortal head,

Who daily, Lord, ascend with thee,
Redeem'd from sin, and free indeed,
We taste our glorious liberty.

2 Sav'd from the fear of hell and death,
With joy we seek the things above,
And all thy saints the spirit breathe,
Of power, sobriety, and love.

3 Pure love to God thy members find,
Pure love to every soul of man;
And in thy sober, spotless mind,
Saviour, our heaven on earth we gain.
4 Author and sum of heavenly bliss!

Thee let our souls and bodies prove,
Implung'd in that unknown abyss,
That ocean of redeeming love.

Hymn 121. L. M.

And this also we wish, even your perfection. 2 Cor. xiii. 9.

THOU, Lord, on whom I still depend,

Shalt keep me faithful to the end; I trust thy truth, and love, and power, Shall save me till my latest hour! 2 And when I lay this body down, Reward with an immortal crown; Jesus, in thy great name I go, To conquer death, my final fee:

3 And when I quit this cumb'rous clay,
And soar on eagles' wings away,
My soul the second death defies,
And reigns eternal in the skies.

4 Eye hath not seen, nor ear hath heard,
What Christ hath for his saints prepar'd,
Who conquer thro' their Saviour's might,
Who sink into perfection's height.

5 Dost thou desire to know or see,
What thy mysterious name shall be?
Receiving thy new name unknown,
Thou read'st it wrote on the white stone.
6 Then trample death beneath thy feet,
And gladly die thy Lord to meet;
Contending for thy heavenly home,
Thy latest foe in death o'ercome.

Hymn 122. P. M.

Be perfect. 2 Cor. xii. 11.

WHEN, my Saviour, shall I be

Perfectly resign'd to thee?

Poor and vile in my own eyes,
Only in thy wisdom wise?

2 Only thee content to know,
Ignorant of all below!

[ocr errors]

Only guided by thy light!
Only mighty in thy might!
3 So I may thy Spirit know,
Let him as he listeth blow;
Let the manner be unknown,
So I may with thee be one.

4 Fully in my life express
All the heights of holiness,
Sweetly let my Spirit prove
All the depth of humble love.

Hymn 123. L. M.

Being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person. Heb. i. 3.

JESUS, in whom the Godhead's rays
Beam forth with mildest majesty ;
I see thee full of truth and grace,
And come for all I want to thee.
2 Save me from pride, the plague expel,
Jesus, thine humble self impart :
O let thy mind within me dwell,
O give me lowliness of heart.
3 Enter thyself and cast out sin;
Thy spotless purity bestow :

Touch me, and make the leper clean,
Wash me, and I am white as snow.
4 Sprinkle me, Saviour, with thy blood,
And all thy gentleness is mine;
And plunge ine in the purple flood,
Till all I am is lost in thine.

Hymn 124. L. M.

Chiefest among ten thousand. Cant. v. 10.

ESUS, to thee my heart I bow;

JES

Strange flames far from my soul remove;
Fairest among ten thousand thou,
Be thou my Lord, my life, my love.
