2 Still, O Lord, our faith increase;
Cleanse from all unrighteousness:
Sweetly each with each combin'd,
In the bands of duty join'd,
Feel the cleansing blood applied,
Daily feel that Christ hath died;
Every vile affection kill:
Root out every seed of ill.

3 Hence may all our actions flow,
Love, the proof that Christ we know;
Mutual love the token be,
Lord, that we belong to thee:
Love, thine image, love impart,
Stamp it on our face and heart;
Only love to us be given;
Lord, we ask no other heaven.

Hymn 158. L. M.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem; they shall prosper that love thee. Psalm cxxii. 6.

LORD, hear our prayers for Zion's peace,

Shed in our hearts thy love abroad;

Thy gifts abundantly increase;

Enlarge and fill us all with God.

2 Before thy sheep, great Shepherd, go,
And guide into thy perfect will!
Cause us thy hallow'd name to know,
The work of faith in us fulfil.

3 Help us to make our calling sure;
O let us all be saints indeed;

And make us pure, as thou art pure,
Conform'd in all things to our Head.

4 Take the dear purchase of thy blood: Thy blood shall wash us white as snow; Present us sanctified to God,

And perfected in love below.

Hymn 159. P. M.

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people. 1 Pet. ii. 9.

YOME, wisdom, power, and grace divine;
Come, Jesus, in thy name to join

A happy chosen band!

Who fain would prove thy utmost will,
And all thy righteous laws fulfil,
In love's benign command.

2 Still may we to our centre tend,
To spread thy praise our common end,
To help each other on;

Companions through the wilderness;
To share a moment's pain, and seize
An everlasting crown.

30 that we now the power might feel,
To do on earth thy blessed will,
As angels do above!

In thee, the life, the truth, the way,
To walk, and perfectly obey

Thy sweet constraining love!

4 Jesus, fulfil our one desire,
And spread the spark of living fire
Through ev'ry hallow'd breast;

Bless with divine conformity,
And give us now to sink in thee,
Our everlasting rest.

Hymn 160. P. M.

So making peace. Eph. ii. 15.

PRINCE of universal peace,

Destroy the enmity;

Bid our jars and discord cease:
Unite us all in thee:

Cruel as wild beasts we are,

Till conquer'd by thy mercy's power,
Men like wolves each other tear,
And their own flesh devour.

20 that now with pardon blest,
We each might each embrace!
Quietly together rest,

And feed upon thy grace! Like our sinless parents live!

Great Shepherd, make thygoodness known; And into thy fold receive,

And keep us ever one.

Hymn 161. P. M.

If any fellowship of the Spirit; if any bowels and mercies; fulfil ye my joy. Phil. ii. 1, 2.

HOL

OLY Lamb, who thee confess,
Followers of thy holiness,
Thee they ever keep in view,
Ever ask, "what shall we do?"
Govern'd by thy holy will,
All thy words we would fulfil,
Would in all thy footsteps go,
Walk as Jesus walk'd below.

2 Early in the temple meet,
Let us still our Saviour greet;
Nightly to the mount repair,
Join our praying pattern there;
There by wrestling faith obtain
Power to work with God again;
Power his image to retrieve,
Power like thee, our Lord, to live.
3 Vessels, instruments of grace,
Pass we thus our happy days,
'Twixt the mount and multitude,
Doing or receiving good:
Glad to pray and labour on,
Till our earthly course is run:
Till we on the sacred tree

Bow the head and die like thee.

Hymn 162. L. M.

And they continued steadfast in the apostles doctrine and fellowship. Acts ii. 42.

HAP

PART FIRST.

APPY the souls that first believ'd,
To Jesus and each other cleav'd;

Join'd by the unction from above,
In mystic fellowship of love.

2 Meek, simple followers of the Lamb,
They liv'd, and spake, and tho't the same:
They joyfully conspir'd to raise
Their ceaseless sacrifice of praise.
3 With grace abundantly endu'd,
A pure, believing multitude;
They all were of one heart and soul,
And only love inspir'd the whole.

40 what an age of golden days! O what a choice, peculiar race!

1

Wash'd in the Lamb's all-cleansing blood,
Anointed Kings and Priests to God.

Hymn 163. L. M.

And in breaking of bread and prayers.
Acts ii. 42.

PART SECOND.

Y different sects, who all declare,

"Lo, here is Christ, or Christ is there!"

Your stronger proofs divinely give,
And show me where the Christians live!
2 Your claim, alas! ye cannot prove:
Ye want the genuine mark of love:
Thou only, Lord, thine own canst know,
For sure thou hast a church below.

3 Scatter'd o'er all the carth they lie,
Till thou collect them with thine eye!
Draw by the music of thy name,
And charm into a beauteous frame.
4 For this the pleading Spirit groans,
And cries in all thy banished ones:
Love, greatest of thy gifts impart,
And make us of one mind and heart.
5 Join every soul that looks to thee,
In bonds of perfect charity;
Now, Lord, thy glorious fulness give,
And all in all for ever live.
