5 Wherefore of thy love we sing and rejoice,
Like angels above, we lift up our voice;
Thy love each believer shall gladly adore,
For ever and ever, when time is no more.

Hymn 16. C. M.

The temple of the Lord are these.

Jer. vii. 4.

1 HE men who slight thy faithful word, Tin their own lies confide;

Are these the temple of the Lord,

And heathens all beside?

2 Who live in pomp, and wealth, and easè,
And Jesus never knew!

What! hyprocrites and pharisees,
The only church and true?

3 O wouldst thou, Lord, reveal their sins!
And turn their joys to grief!

The world, the Christian world, convince
Of damning unbelief.

4 The formalist confound, convert,

And to thy people join;

And break, and fill the broken heart
With coufidence divine!

Hymn 17. P. M.

For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground. Isa. xliv. 3.

1

YE thirsty for God, to Jesus give ear

And take, through his blood, a pow'r to draw near;

His kind invitation, ye sinners, embrace,

The sense of salvation accepting thro' grace. 2 Sent down from above, who governs the skies,

In accents of love to sinners he cries,

Drink into my Spirit, who happy would be, And all things inherit, by coming to me. 3 O Saviour of all, thy word we believe, And come at thy call, thy grace to receive: The blessing is given, wherever thou art: The earnest of heaven is love in the heart. 4 To us at thy feet, the Comforter give, Who gasp to admit thy Spirit and live, The weakest believer acknowledge for thinę, And fill us with rivers of water divine!

Hymn 18. L. M.

Behold, I was shapen in iniquity. Psalm li, 5.

1 LORD, we are vile, conceiv'd in sin,

And born unholy and unclean;

Sprung from the man whose guilty fall,
Corrupts his race and taints us all.

2 Soon as we draw our infant breath,
The seeds of sin grow up for death;
Thy law demands a perfect heart,
But we're defil'd in every part.

3 Great God, create my heart anew,
And form my spirit pure and true;
O make me wise betimes, to see
My danger and my remedy.

4 Behold, I fall before thy face:
My only refuge is thy grace:

No outward forms can make me clean,
The leprosy lies deep within.

5 No bleeding bird, nor bleeding beast,
Nor hyssop branch, nor sprinkling priest,
Nor running brook, nor flood, nor sea,
Can wash the dismal stain away.

6. Jesus, my God, thy blood alone
Hath power sufficient to atone :

Thy blood can make me white as snow; No Jewish types could cleanse mne so. 7 While guilt disturbs and breaks my peace, Nor flesh, nor soul, has rest or ease; Lord, let me hear thy pard'ning voice, And make my broken heart rejoice.

Hymn 19. P. M.

There am I in the midst of them. Matt. xviii. 20.

1

NATHER of omnipresent grace

thy face;

But every soul assembled here,
Doth naked in thy sight appear:

Thou know'st who only bow the knee;
And who in heart approaches thee.

2 Thy Spirit hath the diff'rence made
Betwixt the living and the dead!
Thou now dost into some inspire
The pure benevolent desire:

O that e'en now thy pow'rful call,
May quicken and convert us all.

3 The sinners suddenly convince,
O'erwhelm'd beneath their load of sins;
To-day, while it is call'd to-day,
Awake and stir them up to pray ;
Their dire captivity to own,

And from the iron furnace groan.

4 Then, then acknowledge and set free
The people bought, O Lord, by thee;
The sheep for whom their Shepherd bled,
For whom we in thy Spirit plead!
Let all in thee redemption find,
And not a hoof be left behind.

Hymn 20. L. M.

Do it with thy might. Eccl. ix. 10.

IFE is the time to serve the Lord,

The time t' ensure the great reward,
And while the lamp holds out to burn,
The vilest sinner may return.

2 "Life is the hour that God hath given
To 'scape from sin, and fly to heaven;
The day of grace, when mortals may
Secure the blessings of the day.

3 The living know that they must die:
Beneath the clods their dust must lie;
They'll have no share in all that's done
Beneath the circle of the sun.

-4 Then what my thoughts design to do,
My hands, with all your might pursue:
Since no device, nor work is found,
Nor faith, nor hope beneath the ground.

5 There are no acts of pardon pass'd
In the cold grave to which we haste;
O may we all improve the grace!
And see with joy thy glorious face.

Hymn 21. S. M.

Lord, to whom shall we go? John vi. 68,

A

ND wilt thou yet be found?

And may I still draw near?
Then listen to the plaintive sound
Of a poor sinner's prayer.

2 Jesus, thine aid afford,

If still the same thou art,
To thee I look, to thee, my Lord,
Lift up a helpless heart.

3 Thou seest my troubled breast,
The struggles of my will,
The foes that interrupt my rest,
The agonies I feel.

4 The daily death I prove,

Saviour, to thee is known;

'Tis worse than death my God to love,»
And not my God alone.

5 O my offended Lord,

Restore my inward peace,

I know thou canst ;-pronounce the word, And bid the tempest.cease.>

6 I long to see thy face,

Thy Spirit I implore,

The living water of thy grace,
That I may thirst no more.
