Its evils cure, its wants supply,

And bid my unbelief depart.
2 Slay the dire root and seed of sin!

Prepare thyself the holiest place!
Then, 0 essential love, come in!

And fill thy house with endless praise. 3 Let me, according to thy word,

A tender contrite heart receive,
Which grieves at having griev'd its Lord,

And never can itself forgive.
4 A heart, thy joys and griefs to feel,

A heart that will not faithless prove;
A beart, where Christ alone may dwell,

All praise, all meekness, and all love.

And in the presence of our Lord,

The life of angels live.
3 That mighty faith on me bestow,

Which does not ask in vain;
Which bolds, and will not let thee go,

Till I my suit obtain.

While they are slaves to lust. 2 Vain are our fancy's airy flights,

If faith be cold and dead: None but a living power unites

To Christ the living head. 3 'Tis faith that changes all the heart;
