This is the field, where hidden lies The Pearl of price unknown; Those children are divinely wise, Who make that Pearl their own. 2 Here consecrated water flows, To quench our thirst of sin Nor danger dwells therein. 3 This is tho jadge that ends the strife, Where wit and reason fail; Through all this gloomy vale. Oar roving feet command; C. M, And guard their lives from sin? To keep the conscience clean. 2 When once it enters to the mind, It spreads such light abroad, The meanest souls instruction find, And raise their thoughts to God. 3 'Tis, liko the sun, a heav'nly light, That guides us all the day; A lamp to lead our way. How pure is ev'ry page! And well support our age. 63. 78. Mine, to teach me what I am. Mine, to show a Saviour's love; Mine to judge, condemn, acquit. 3 Mine, to comfort in distress, If the Holy Spirit bless ; Man can triumph over death. 4 Mine, to tell of joys to come, And the rebel sinner's doom : WORSHIP. 64. Thy sacred word to hear, With reverence and with fear, 2 Lot as remember still, That God is present here; When we draw near in prayer. 3 And when the humble notes Of praise our lips employ, Which saints in heaven enjoy. 4 0! may thy sacred word Sink deep in every breast; To Christ, the promis'd rest. 65. In God's own house for me to play, While Christians meet to hear and pray, Is to profane his holy place, And ternpt th' Almighty to his face, 2 When angels bow before the Lord, And devils tremble at his word, To mock, and sport, and trifle there? 3 Great God, compassionate and mild, Forgive the follies of a child; 66. When to the house of God we go, To hear his word, and sing his love, We onght to worship him below, As saints and angels do above. 2 But God is prosent every where, And watches all our thoughts and ways He marks who humbly join in prayer And who sincerely sing his praise. |
