and all the Powers therein.* To Thee, Cherubin and Seraphin continually do cry.-Holy, Holy, Holy: Lord God of Sabaoth.* Heaven and earth are full of the Majesty of thy Glory.

For Festivals of the Saints.

Antiphon. The glorious company of the Apostles: praise Thee, O God.* The goodly fellowship of the Prophets praise Thee.-The noble army of Martyrs : praise Thee. The Holy Church throughout all the world : doth acknowledge Thee.

Note. These last two Antiphons are for a double chant twice repeated, or for a single chant four times repeated.

¶ Then immediately after the proper Antiphon shall be sung or said, this Canticle.

¶ Canticle. Awake, awake: put on thy strength, O Zion;

Put on thy beautiful garments: O Jerusalem, the holy city.

How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings: that publisheth peace;

That bringeth good tidings

redeemed Jerusalem.

The Lord hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations:

:

And all the ends of the earth: shall see the salvation of our God.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost.

R. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen.

of good, that publisheth sal-¶ Then shall be repeated the

vation that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth:

Thy watchmen shall lift up the voice with the voice together shall they sing :

:

For they shall see eye to eye: when the Lord shall bring again Zion.

Break forth into joy: sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem;

For the Lord hath comforted his people: He hath

proper Antiphon, being either sung in chorus, or said by the Reader and Family all together.

¶And after it shall be sung, or said, again,

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost.

R. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen.

Then, if it is to be said, shall follow all that is appointed in the Proper Order for the day, or season, the Reader first saying at what page it is to be found.

¶ Or, instead of that may be sung, or said, such Psalm, or Psalms, as the Master shall appoint. ¶ Then

may

be read a Lesson.

¶ After which may be sung a Hymn or in the place of a Hymn the following, or some other Psalm, or Canticle may be sung, or said.

Ps. 93. Dominus regnavit.

in Fign, THE Lord is King, and

hath put on glorious apparel: the Lord hath put on his apparel, and girded himself with strength.

He hath made the round world so sure that it cannot be moved.

Ever since the world began hath thy seat been prepared: Thou art from everlasting.

The floods are risen, O Lord, the floods have lift up their voice: the floods lift up their waves.

The waves of the sea are mighty, and rage horribly: but yet the Lord, who dwelleth on high, is mightier.

Thy testimonies, O Lord, are very sure: holiness becometh thine house for ever.

Glory be to the Father,

[blocks in formation]

¶ And then shall be sung or said the Apostle's Creed.

Note.-It is not intended that the above Order should be at all times observed, or by all Families. The Master can always appoint, that a Psalm or Hymn only should be sung, or said, in this place; or that a Lesson only should be read; or, all of these being omitted, the proper Antiphon and Canticle may be sung or said, and then he may pass on at once to the Creed.

From CHRISTMAS to the EPIPHANY.

Jesus cried, and said, I and the Father are One; he that believeth on Me, believeth not on Me, but on Him that sent Me. I am come a Light into the world, that whosoever believeth on Me should not abide in darkness: and if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.

R. O Christ, the King of glory; Thou, that unto us wast born a Saviour from the Virgins' womb, have mercy upon us, and save us, and write thy Word in our hearts, we beseech Thee.

From the EPIPHANY to SEPTUAGESIMA SUNDAY.

They shall come from the East, and from the West, and from the North, and from the South, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God: and behold, there are last, which shall be first; and there are first, which shall be last.

R. O Christ, the King of glory; Thou, to whom the Gentiles seek, have mercy upon us, and save us, and write thy Word in our hearts, we beseech Thee.

From SEPTUAGESIMA SUNDAY to the FIFTH SUNDAY in LENT, properly called PASSION SUNDAY.

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, because He hath anointed Me to preach the Gospel to the poor; He hath sent Me to heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind; to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

R. O Christ, the King of glory; Thou, who didst preach

thy Gospel to the poor, have mercy upon us, and save us, write thy Word in our hearts, we beseech Thee.

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not. Behold your house is left unto you desolate; for I say unto you, ye shall not see Me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is He that cometh in the Name of the Lord.

R. O Christ, the King of glory; Thou, who didst freely offer Thyself for the sins of thy people, have mercy upon us, and save us, and write thy Word in our hearts, we beseech Thee.

On PALM SUNDAY.

When Jesus was come near, He beheld the city, and wept over it, saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace but now they are hid from thine eyes.

:

R. O Christ, the King of glory; Thou, that comest to thy people meek, and lowly, have mercy upon us, and save us, and write thy Word in our hearts, we beseech Thee.

From EASTER-DAY to the ASCENSION.

Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth; go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

R. O Christ, the King of glory; Thou, that art risen from the dead, have mercy upon us, and save us, and write thy Word in our hearts, we beseech Thee.

From the ASCENSION to WHIT-SUNDAY.

Go unto my Brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, aud your God.

R. O Christ, the King of glory; Thou, that art ascended above the heavens, have mercy upon us, and save us, and write thy Word in our hearts, we beseech Thee.

From WHIT-SUNDAY to TRINITY SUNDAY.

Jesus said to them, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent Me, even so send I you. And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost; whosesoever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whosesoever sins ye retain, they are retained.

R. O Christ, the King of glory; Thou, Who sendest down the Holy Ghost upon thy Church, have mercy upon us, and save us, and write thy Word in our hearts, we beseech Thee. On TRINITY-SUNDAY, and every SUNDAY after to ADVENT. Jesus came, and spake unto them, saying, all power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth; go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost; teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

R. O Christ, the King of Glory; Thou, that sittest at the right hand of the Father; and Who, with the Father, and the Holy Ghost, art ever One God, have mercy upon us, and save us, and write thy word in our hearts, we beseech Thee.

On ALL SAINTS' DAYS, after TRINITY-SUNDAY, to ADVENTSUNDAY.

And He that sat upon the throne, said, Behold, I make all things new. And He said unto me, Write: for these words are faithful and true. And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely; he that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. R. O Christ, the King of Glory; Thou, that shalt come to be glorified in thy Saints, have mercy upon us, and save us, and write thy Word in our hearts. we beseech Thee.

On MICHAEL MAS-DAY.

I heard the voice of many Angels round about the throne, and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands
