The Editor of this Book, thinks it necessary to inform the reader, that he made considerable alterations in it, when he printed the first Edition, with a view to its improvement. Many antiquated expressions were obliterated; many grammatical errors corrected; and the verses placed at the end of some of the meditations were, on account of their being uncouth, and not at all apposite, expunged from the work; and verses, by the best of our Poets, and suitable to the subjects, substituted in their place. Though these alterations have been made, yet the spirit of the Author has been invariably maintained.
