MISCELLANEOUS.

FATHER of mercies, in Thy word

What endless glory shines!

For ever be Thy Name adored

For these celestial lines.

2 Here the Redeemer's welcome voice
Spreads heavenly peace around;

And life and everlasting joys

30

Attend the blissful sound.

may these heavenly pages be
My first, my chief delight;
And still new beauties may I see,
And still increasing light.

4 Divine Instructor, gracious Lord,
Be Thou for ever near;

Teach me to love Thy sacred word,
And view my Saviour there.

THE Spirit breathes upon the word,
And brings the truth to sight;

Precepts and promises afford
A sanctifying light.

2 A glory gilds the sacred page,
Majestic as the sun :

It gives a light to every age;
It gives, but borrows none.

3 The hand that gave it still supplies
The gracious light and heat;
His truths upon the nations rise;
They rise, but never set.

4 Eternal thanks, O Lord, be Thine
For such a bright display,

1

As makes a world of darkness shine
With beams of heavenly day.

YOD, in the Gospel of His Son,

GO

L. M.

Makes His eternal counsels known;
Where love in all its glory shines,
And truth is drawn in fairest lines.

2 The prisoner here may break his chains,
The weary rest from all his pains,
The captive feel his bondage cease,
The mourner find the way of peace.
3 Here faith reveals to mortal eyes
A brighter world beyond the skies:
Here shines the light which guides our way
From earth to realms of endless day.
4 O grant us grace, Almighty Lord,
To mark and learn Thy holy word,
Its truths with meekness to receive,
And by its holy precepts live!

PPROACH, my soul, the mercy-seat,
Where Jesus answers prayer;
There humbly fall before His feet,

For none can perish there.

2 Thy promise is my only plea,
With this I venture nigh ;

Thou callest burdened souls to Thee,
And such, O Lord, am I.

3 Bowed down beneath a load of sin,
By Satan sorely prest,
Fightings without, and fears within,
I come to Thee for rest.

4 O wondrous Love! to bleed and die,
To bear the Cross and shame,
That guilty sinners, such as I,
Might plead Thy gracious Name.

1

Cerus loves to answer prayer;

YOME, my soul, thy suit prepare,

He Himself has bid thee pray,
Therefore will not şay thee nay.
2 Thou art coming to a King,
Large petitions with thee bring;
For His grace and power are such,
None can ever ask too much.

3 Lord, I come to Thee for rest,-
Take possession of my breast;
There Thy blood-bought right maintain,
And without a rival reign.

4 While I am a pilgrim here,

Let Thy love my spirit cheer;

As my Guide, my Guard, my Friend,
Lead me to my journey's end.

1 IVE thanks to God most high,

GIVE

The universal Lord,

The sovereign King of kings,
And be His grace adored.
His power and grace
Are still the same;
And let His Name
Have endless praise.

2 How mighty is His hand!

What wonders hath He done!
He formed the earth and seas,
And spread the heavens alone.
Thy mercy, Lord,

Shall still endure;

And ever sure
Abides Thy word.

3 Give thanks aloud to God,
To God the heavenly King;
And let the spacious earth
His work and glories sing.
Thy mercy, Lord,

Shall still endure;
And ever sure
Abides Thy word.

ONGS of praise the angels sang,

Heaven with hallelujahs rang,

When Jehovah's work begun,
When He spake, and it was done.

2 Songs of praise awoke the morn,
When the Prince of Peace was born;
Songs of praise arose when He
Captive led captivity.

3 Heaven and earth must pass away;
Songs of praise shall crown that day :
God will make new heavens and earth ;
Songs of praise shall hail their birth.
4 And shall man alone be dumb,
Till that glorious kingdom come?
No! the Church delights to raise
Songs of joy and hymns of praise.
5 Saints below, with heart and voice,
Still in songs of praise rejoice;
Learning here, by faith and love,
Songs of praise to sing above.

THOU

1 THOU who art enthroned above,
Thou in whom we live and move,
Good it is with joyful tongue

To resound Thy praise in

song:

When the morning paints the skies,
When the sparkling stars arise,
All Thy favours to rehearse,
And give thanks in grateful verse.

2 Sweet the day of sacred rest,

When devotion fires the breast,
When we dwell within Thy house,
Hear Thy Gospel, pay our vows,
