4 Dear Saviour whom have I but thee?
In life and death my only stay!
O let thy goodness beam on me,
To gild the gloom, to guide my way.

5 The storm of life will soon be o'er, And peace enshrine this throbbing breast; O, soon my happy soul will soar

To Thee in heaven, and be at rest.

19.

Ps. xix. (Warrington.)

1 God of my life to Thee I call,
Afflicted at thy feet I fall;

When the great water floods prevail,
Leave not my trembling heart to fail.

2 Friend of the friendless and the faint, Where shall I lodge my deep complaint? Where but with Thee, whose open door Invites the helpless and the poor?

3 Did ever mourner plead with Thee
And Thou refuse that inourner's plea ?
Does not the word still fixed remain
That none shall seek thy face in vain ?

4 Hard were the woes of life to bear,
Diast thou not hear and answer prayer;
But a prayer-hearing, answering God,
Supports me under every load.

20. Ps. lxxi. (Abridge.)

1 My God, my everlasting hope, I live upon thy truth;

Thy hands have held my childhood up, And strengthened all my youth.

2 Still hath my life new wonders seen.
Repeated every year ;

Behold! my days which yet remain,
I trust them to thy care.

3 Reject me not when strength declines,
When hoary hairs arise;
And round me let thy glory shine
Whene'er thy servant dies.

4 Then in the his 'ry of my age,
When men review my days,
They'll read thy love in every page,
In every line thy praise.

[blocks in formation]

1 Jesus shall reign where'er the sun
Does his successive journeys run:

His kingdom stretch from shore to shore,
Till moons shall wax and wane no more.

2 To Him shall endless prayer be made, And princes throng to crown his head; His name, like sweet perfume, shall rise With every morning sacrifice.

3 People and realms of every tongue
Dwell on his name with sweetest song
And infant voices shall proclaim
Their early blessings on his name.

4 Blessings abound where'er He reigns; The prisoner leaps to loose his chains The weary find eternal rest,

And all the sons of want are bless'd

5 Let every creature rise and bring
Peculiar honors to our King;
Angels descend with songs again,
And earth repeat the loud Amen.

Ps. lxxvii, (Milton.)

I How oft the cruel Tempter's art
Seeks to destroy my faith in God!
Burdens with fears my fainting heart
Till my whole spirit feels the load.

2 And is there then no help above?
Am I forsaken of the Lord ?

Can the deep fountain of his love
Not one sweet drop of peace afford ?

3 Is mercy gone

? for ever gone?
His promise closed against my soul?
Am I a lost rejected one,

Where waves on waves unceasing roll?

4 Peace troubled soul! nor dare repine,
Reprove thine own infirmity..
Behold how grace and mercy shine
In years of love vouchsafed to thee.

5 Within God's house celestial light
Shines to dispel my dark despair,
Mercy's sweet prospect cheers the sight,
Go with me Lord, and bless me there.

23. Ps. lxxxiv. Part 1. ( Cedar.)

10 God of hosts! my Lord and King,
How lovely are those realms above,
Where saints and angels ever sing
Thy mercy, majesty, and love.

2 How glows my soul with ardent zeal
Within those blissful courts to fly!
My heart and flesh triumphant feel
Thee, Thee their only source of joy.

3 In sorrow's dark and dreary night
Thy mercies open like a well,
Fill all thy saints with holy light,
And every gloomy fear dispel.

4 From strength to strength thy children grow, And guided by thy heavenly grace,

On to the courts of Zion go,

To see their Saviour face to face.

24. Ps. lxxxiv. Part 2. (St. Paul's. )

1 I'd rather in thy house remain,
My God, but one brief transient day,
Than with the wicked and the vain
A thousand thoughtless ages stay.
