When God his full designs has wrought,
The countless choir of heaven will shout,
Grace, grace for evermore !

115. GOD IN HIS COVENANT LOVE. (Pannal.)

1 How great the Almighty, how boundless his skill,
The works of his providence prove :
His glory, his goodness the universe fill;
But greater, and richer, and lovelier still
Is God in his covenant love.

2 The spirits of glory that dwell in his sight, And all his deep counsels approve,

Are lost in amazeinent, and filled with delight While searching the depth, and the breadth and the height

Of God in his covenant love.

3 When Israel marched forth at the voice of the Lord,

In vain every enemy strove,

Proud Pharaoh sank deep at the terrible word, And Moab and Amalek fell by the sword,

Of God in his covenant love.

4 When Antichrist rose his elect to devour, No terrors the faithful could move; Upheld to the last in the bitterest hour

They sang from the flames, of the mercy and

power

Of God in his covenant love.

5 When angel, and martyr, and glorified saint All meet in the mansions above,

No tongue will be weary, no heart will grow faint,

The chorus will rise with eternal consent

To God in his covenant love.

116.

REPENTANCE.

1 Father of everlasting love,

On Thee we urge our grief.

Do Thou all sinful thoughts remove
Which keep our souls from things above-
Lord help our unbelief!

2 O Lamb of God, to Thee we cry,
Haste Thou to our relief;
Thou hear'st our broken spirits sigh,
Oppressed with shame, Thou see'st us lie-
Lord help our unbelief!

3 Eternal Spirit, Lord of light,
Behold and soothe our grief;

*

O guide our erring thoughts aright,
With thine unerring changeless might-
Lord help our unbelief!

117.

NATIONAL FAST. (Grosvenor.)

1 How vast the mercies of our land
How rich the blessings from thy hand;
The debt how great we owe !

What have we rendered for thy love?
Thy broken law, and sabbaths prove
We merit endless woe.

2 Yet, spare us, Lord, in mercy spare,
Remove thy wrath, receive our prayer
In our deserved distress;

And as thy chastisements withdraw,
Fill all our hearts with sacred awe,
And thus thy judgement bless.

3 When Thou in terror risest forth
the wicked from the earth,

To sweep

With dread resistless stroke,

O'er Britain stretch thy sheltering arm,
Our tower of refuge from the storm,
Our everlasting rock.

118.

AFTER SERMON. (Vesper Hymn.)

1 Lord refresh us with thy blessing,
Fill our hearts with joy and peace :
Let us each thy love possessing,

2

Triumph in redeeming grace:

O refresh us travelling through life's wilderness,
Thanks we give and adoration
For the gospel's joyful sound :
May the fruits of thy salvation

In our hearts and lives abound.

May thy presence with us evermore be found.

119.

AFTER SERMON. (Dismission.)

1 Once more before we part
Bless the Redeemer's name,
Let every tongue and heart
Praise and adore the same.

CHORUS.

Jesus, the sinner's friend,
Him whom our souls adore,
His praises hear no end,
Praise him for evermore.

2 Lord, in thy grace we came,
That blessing still impart;
We met in Jesu's name,

In Jesu's name we part.

LEISURE MUSINGS AND DEVOTIONAL MEDITATIONS,

IN HUMBLE STRAINS OF POETRY.

Extracts from the Reviews:

"CLAIMING no pretension to merit, the author of this little collection of poetical musings deprecates critical censure with that modesty which real talent always feels, even when praise is justly due. The pieces have somewhat of a mournful tone, but many of them are eminently beautiful; and though there is unquestionably great inequality in the volume, all are far above mediocrity."-Christian Remembrancer.

"GREAT modesty characterizes the title, and sterling merit the pages of this little volume. It is a handmaid which the Christian reader can always carry about with him and if he need relief under pressure, or companionship in joy, rarely will he have to make his appeal to it in vain, or close it disappointed." -Christian Guardian.

"A pretty little volume, the breathings of a devout mind, and bespeaking much local attachment. The frequenters of LowHarrogate can best appreciate the descriptive part of the book; but the sentiment will recommend it more generally."--Christian Lady's Magazine.
