APOLYTIKIA OF THE DAY.

¶After the Apolytikion of the Resurrection, at pages 18, 45, 102, 129, 136, 142, and 147.

1ST OF THE FASTS.

We worship Thy spotless Eikon, O Good, seeking concession of our stumblings, O CHRIST the GOD: for of Thy Will, Thou wast well-pleased with Thy Flesh to ascend the Cross, to deliver those whom Thou hast made from the servitude of the enemy. Therefore we thankfully cryaloud to thee: Thou hast filled all with joy, O our Saviour, Thou Who camest to save the world.

2ND OF THE FASTS.

Amene.

Thou who art the illuminator of the Orthodox, the support and teacher of the Churches, the beauty of the Monastic, the irresistible defender of the Theologians, O wonder-working Gregory, the boast of Thessalonica, herald of Grace: supplicate for all, that our souls may be saved.

3RD OF THE FASTS.

O LORD, save Thy people, and bless Thine inheritance, giving victory to the Kings over barbarians, and guarding Thy State by Thy Cross.

4TH OF THE FASTS.

By the flowing of thy tears the barren desert was fertilized, and with groanings from the depth the labours bare fruit a hundred-fold; and thou art become an illuminator of the universe, radiant with wonders, our religious Father, John. Intercede with CHRIST the GOD, that our souls may be saved.

5TH OF THE FASTS.

In thee, O Mother, the Eikóna is accurately preserved for, taking the Cross, following CHRIST, and practising doctrine, thou despisedst the flesh, passing it by; but caredst for the soul, for things immortal: wherefore thy spirit, religious Mary, is, with the Angels, together-exulting. [Both now, and ever, and to the ages of the ages.

OF THE PALMS.

Amene.

The common Resurrection was assured before Thy Passion, O CHRIST the GOD, by raising Lazarus from the dead: wherefore we also, as the children, bear the symbols of victory; to Thee, the Conquerer of death, crying-aloud: Hosanna in the Highest; Blessed is He that cometh in the Name of the LORD. *

Glory to the FATHER, and to the Son, and to the Holy GHOST.

Buried with Thee through the Baptism, O CHRIST our GOD, let us become worthy of the Life Immortal by Thy Resurrection, and hymning, let us shout: Hosanna in the Highest; Blessed is He that cometh in the Name of the LORD.

OF THE HOLY AND GREAT PASCHA.

CHRIST is Risen from the dead; death by Death down doth He tread; and on those within the tombs He bestoweth Life.

OF THE HOLY OINTMENT-Bearing WOMEN, AND OF JOSEPH THE JUST. [The honourable Joseph took-down Thy Spotless Body from the Tree, wrapped It in clean linen, and with sweet scents placed It in a new unused Tomb: but Thou, O LORD, didst Arise the third day, granting to the world the great mercy.

To the Ointment-bearing Women, standing beside the Tomb, the Angel cried-aloud: The ointments are well-fitting for those dead, but CHRIST hath proved a stranger to corruption: shout ye, in other wise, The LORD is Risen, granting to the world the great mercy.

OF THE SAMARITAN-WOMAN.

In the middle of the feast, my thirsty soul piously drinketh of the springs, for the Saviour of all crieth-aloud: Whoso thirsteth, let him come unto Me, and drink. Thou Who art the Fountain of Life, O CHRIST our GoD, Glory to Thee.

OF THE 318 FATHERS OF NICEA.

Highly-glorified art Thou, O CHRIST Our GOD, Who art the Light upon earth of our foundation Fathers; and through them dost guide us all in the True faith: O Manifold-Tender-hearted-One, Glory to Thee. [Both now, and ever, and to the ages of the ages. Amene.

Of the Ascension.

Ascending in Glory, O CHRIST our God, Thou makest glad the Disciples by the promise of the Holy SPIRIT, declared unto them through the Blessing: for Thou art the Son of God, the Redeemer of the world.]

OF THE HOLY PENTECOST.

Blessed art Thou, O CHRIST our GOD, Who to the Fishermen didst shew-forth all wisdom, sending-down on them the Holy GHOST; and by them didst draw in a net the universe: O Lover-of-men, Glory to Thee. Glory to the FATHER, and to the SON, and to the Holy GHOST. Blessed art Thou, O CHRIST our GOD, &c. As immediately above. [Both now, and ever, and to the ages of the ages. OF ALL THE SAINTS.

In all the world being clothed with the bloods of Thy Martyrs, as in purple and fine linen, Thy Church, through them, crieth-aloud to Thee, O CHRIST the GOD: Send-down Thy compassions upon Thy people; give peace to Thy State; and to our souls the great mercy. SEP. 1ST.

Thou Who art Maker of all the creation, Who by Thine own Authority determinest times and seasons; bless, O LORD, of Thy Goodness, the Crown of the Year; guard the Kings and Thy City in peace, and save us: through the intercessions of the Theotokos.

Hail, full-of-grace, O Virgin Theotokos, harbour and refuge of the race of men for from thee the Redeemer of the world was Incarnate; for thou alone art Mother and Virgin, ever Blessed and Glorified. Intercede with CHRIST the GOD to give peace to the whole universe.]

OF THE HOLY AND GOD-SEEING PROPHET MOSES. (SEP. 4TH.) We celebrate, O LORD, the memory of Thy Prophet Moses, through whom we importune Thee: O save our souls.

FORERUNNER. (SEP. 5TH.)

Clothed with Priesthood, girded-about with wisdom, receiving burntofferings according to the Law of GOD, thou didst bear thyself reverently, O Zacharias: and hast become an illuminator, and a beholder of mysteries, the tokens to thee of grace, bringing plainly all-wisdom; a sword also of destruction in the Tempie of GOD: O Prophet of CHRIST, together-with the Forerunner, supplicate that our souls may be saved.

EVE OF THE BIRTH OF THE THEOTOKOS. (SEP. 7TH.)

From the root of Jesse, and out of the loin of David, the Divine-maid Mary is Born to-day for us: wherefore together-all both rejoice and are renewed; the Heaven and the earth also at-once rejoice-together. The kindreds of the nations praise her. Joakeim is glad, and Anna keepsfestival, shouting: The barren hath brought-forth the Theotokos and nourisher of our Life.

SEP. 8-12TH.

Thy Birth, O Theotokos, hath brought joy to all the universe, for from thee arose the Sun of Righteousness, CHRIST our God; and having loosed the curse hath given us the Blessing, and having abolished death, hath bestowed on us the Life everlasting.

SEP. 13TH.

Amene.

Like as the comeliness of the foundation above, is shewn-forth also below the beauty of the Holy Tabernacle of Thy Glory, O LORD. Confirm it unto age of age; and receive us, when in it we offer to Thee prayers unceasingly, through the Theotokos, Thou Who art the Life and Resurrection of all. and ever, and to the ages of the ages. Of the Cross.

The life-making Cross, which Thou gavest to us, the unworthy, of Thy Goodness, O LORD, we offer to Thee in intercession. Save the Kings and Thy City, we supplicate, through the Theotokos, O Only Lover-of-men.]

Be glad, thou who before wast barren, that baredst not, for behold, thou hast conceived the Light of the Sun, which is about to shine brilliantly on the whole universe, diseased with darkness; rejoice, O Zacharias, with freedom-of-speech crying-aloud: The Prophet of the Highest is he who shall be brought-forth.

SEP. 26TH.

O Apostle, beloved of CHRIST the GOD, hasten thou to deliver the inex cusable people: thou art made-known as an accepted-one, by embracing and resting on His Breast: Whom supplicate, O Theologian, and disperse the hovering cloud of nations, asking for us peace, and the great mercy. The faithful praise the Divine Gerasimus, a protector of the Orthodox, an Angel in flesh, and a wonderworking God-bearer, newly-manifested unto us for being made worthy to receive from GOD the exhaustless grace of healings, he made strong the diseased, the demoniacs cured. Wherefore also to those who honour him, his healings overflow.
