HYPAKOINE OF THE DAY.

After the Hypakoë of the Resurrection, at pages 32, 65, and 130.

OF THE PALMS.

The ignorant Jews having before hymned with branches, afterwards with trees together-seized CHRIST the GOD: but we, in faith, unalterably ever honour Him as Benefactor, always crying-aloud to Him: Blessed art Thou that cometh, the recaller of Adam.

SEP. 8TH.

The Prophet calleth the Holy Virgin an unentered Gate, guarded for our God Alone: through her passed the LORD, and once more was sealed up; from her proceeded the Most High, redeeming our life from corruption.

DEC. 11-17TH.

The fire to the Children was changed to dew; the wailing of the Women was turned into joy. For an Angel in both cases did service in the wonders: to those, on the one hand, making to cease the remodelling of the furnace; to these, on the other hand, making known the Resurrection on the third day. O LORD, the Author of our life, Glory to Thee.

DEC. 18-24TH.

An Angel bedewed the furnace of the Children; but now he cut short the weeping of the Women, saying: What ointments bear ye? Whom seek ye in the Grave; The CHRIST and GOD is Risen, for He is the Life and Salvation of the race of men.

DEC. 25TH.

The first-fruit of the nations the Heaven brought to Thee, the Infant lying in a manger, calling the Magi by a Star: who also were struck with amazement, not by sceptre and throne, but with utter poverty: for what is meaner than a cave? what humbler than swaddling-clothes? in which the riches of Thy Godhead clearly shone. Glory to Thee, O LORD.

JAN. 6TH.

When Thine Epiphany enlightened together all-things, raising us to Heaven, then the saltness of the unfaithful sea fled-away, and the Jordan flowing down was turned-back but to the height of Thy Divine Commandments preserve us, O CHRIST the GOD, through the intercessions of the Theotokos, and have mercy upon us.

AUG. 15TH.

All the generations bless thee, O Virgin Theotokos, for in thee was contained, of good-pleasure, the Uncontainable CHRIST our GOD. Blessed are also we, who have thy protection, for day and night thou intercedest for us, and the sceptres of the Kingdom are strengthened by thy supplications. Wherefore, hymning we cry-aloud to thee: Hail, O full-of-grace, the LORD is with thee.

TONE 1. Now will I arise, saith the LORD, I will set them in safety; I will speak-freely to them in it.

The oracles of the LORD are pure oracles, as silver tried by fire, proved in the earth, purified seven times.

[ocr errors][merged small]

TONE 2. Awake, O LORD my God, according to the decree which Thou commandest, and a congregation of peoples shall encircle Thee.

O LORD my GOD, in Thee have I trusted: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me.

TONE 3. Say among the nations that the LORD reigneth: for truly He hath founded the universe, which shall not be moved.

O sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD all the earth.

Hear, O Thou Shepherd of Israel; Thou that leadest Joseph as a sheep.

I will confess unto Thee, O LoчD, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Thy wonders.

Praise the LORD, O my soul: I will praise the LORD in my life; I will sing to my God while I have being.
