22. Attend, O Shepherd of Israel; Thou that leadest Joseph as a sheep. The mouth of the righteous-one will meditate wisdom; and his tongue will speak of judgment. 23. GOD shall compassionate us, and bless us. Shall cause His Face to shine upon us, and be merciful unto us. 24. Bring unto the LORD, O ye Sons of GOD, bring young rams unto the LORD. The Voice of the LORD is upon the waters. 25. Now dismiss Thy servant in peace, O MASTER, according to Thy Word: for mine eyes have seen Thy Salvation. A Light to enlighten nations, and the Glory of Thy people Israel. 26. He shall come-down as rain upon wool, and as gentle showers dropping upon the earth. His Name shall be Blessed unto the ages. 27. O GOD, we have heard with our ears, and our Fathers have told us, the work which Thou wroughtest in their days, in days of old. Thou hast saved us from them that afflicted us; and hast put to shame them that hated us. 28. The Heavens are Thine; the earth also is Thine. Blessed are the people who have the LORD for their God. 29. Arise, O LORD, into Thy Rest; Thou, and the Ark of Thy Holiness. The LORD hath sworn truth to David, and He will not make it void. APPENDIX W. THEOTOKIA, SAID, ON FESTIVALS, IN THE HOLY LITURGY. ¶ Instead of It is truly worthy, &c. at page 117. OF THE PALMS. GOD is the LORD, and is manifested unto us: set-up the Feast, and exult: come, let us magnify CHRIST with Palms and Branches, shouting in hymns: Blessed is He that cometh in the Name of the LORD, our Saviour. OF THE HOLY AND GREAT PASCHA, AND FIVE FOLLOWING SUNDAYS. The Angel cried-aloud to the Full-of-grace: O Virgin Pure, Hail! and again I say Hail! thy SoN hath Arisen the third day from the Grave. Shine, shine, O new Jerusalem, for the Glory of the LORD hath Risen upon thee. Now dance and exult, O Sion; but thou, O Pure-one, be glad, O Theotokos, in the Resurrection of thine Offspring. OF THE HOLY PENTECOST. Be-glad, O Queen, in Mother-maiden fame : for every well-turned fluent mouth, pronouncing, is weak to sing thee worthily; but every mind is dizzied at the thought of thine Offspring: wherefore in harmony we Glorify thee. SEP. 8TH. The Virginity belonging to other than mothers, and the Child-producing foreign to virgins, were both entrusted to thee, O Theotokos: wherefore all the tribes of the earth unceasingly bless thee. SEP. 14TH. O Theotokos, thou art the mystical Paradise, untilledly budding-forth CHRIST; through whom the Cross, the Life-bearing Tree, was planted; by whom it is now Exalted: worshipping it, we magnify thee. Nov. 21st. At the Entrance of the All-pure one, Angels arose, astonished how the Virgin went in to the Holy of Holies. As to the living Ark of God, in no-wise touched by hand profane, lips of faithful-ones unceasingly, to the Theotokos, chant the song of the Angel, in exultation crying-aloud : O pure Virgin, thou art truly higher than all. DEC. 25TH. Magnify, my soul, her who is more-honourable and more-glorious than the Hosts above. Lo! a strange and paradoxic mystery: the Cave is Heaven; the Virgin is the Cherubic Throne; the Manger is the place wherein is laid the Uncontainable, CHRIST the GOD, Whom we magnify in Hymns. JAN. 6TH. Magnify, my soul, her who is more-honourable and more-glorious than the Hosts above. Of wonders, thy Bringing-forth, O all-pure Bride, O blessed Mother, is above thought: through it has come to pass all-complete Salvation: worthy of a hymn of thanksgiving, we clap our hands, bearing to thee, as Benefactress, a Gift. FEB. 2ND. O Theotokos, who art the hope of all the Christians, cover, watch, guard, those who trust in thee. We, the faithful, have seen in the Law a shadow, and in the Scriptures a type: Every male that openeth the womb is Holy to God. Wherefore the First-Born WORD, the Unoriginate Son of the FATHER, First-Born from a Mother unknown-of-man, we magnify. MAR. 25TH. Announce, O Earth, great Joy; praise, O Heavens, the Glory of God. As to the living Ark of GoD, in no-wise touched by hand profane, lips of faithful-ones unceasingly, to the Theotokos, chant the song of the Angel, in exultation crying-aloud: Hail, O full-of-grace, the LORD is with thee. AUG. 6TH. Now the deaf-ones hear: for the Voice of the FATHER Gloriously witnesses to the Sireless Son of the Virgin: As GoD and Man, He is unto the ages. AUG. 15TH. All the generations bless thee, the alone Theotokos. The bounds of nature triumph in thee, O spotless Virgin, for virginity beareth Child, and Life pleadeth for death. Thou, after Child-bearing, art a Virgin, and after death livest, that thou mightest ever save, O Theotokos, thine inheritance. |
