II.

The God of Abr'ham praise, At whose fupreme command From earth I rife-and feek the joys At his right hand:

I all on earth forfake,

Its wisdom, fame, and pow'r : And Him my only portion make, My fhield and tow'r.

III.

The God of Abr'ham praise, Whofe all-fufficient grace Shall guide me all my happy days, In all his ways:

He calls a worm his friend! He calls himself my God! And He shall fave me to the end, Through Jefu's blood.

IV.

He by Himself hath fworn, I on his oath depend, I fhall, on eagle's wings up-borne, To heav'n afcend:

I fhall behold his face,

I fhall his pow'r adore,

And fing the wonders of his grace
For evermore.

XII. Chrift the Steward of God's family. I..M.

I.

WITH what delight I raise my eyes,

And view the courts where Jefus dwells!

Jefus, who reigns beyond the skies,
And here below his grace reveals.

II.

Of David's royal house the key
Is borne by that majestic hand;
Manfions and treasures there I fee-
Subjected all to his command.

III.

He shuts, and worlds might ftrive in vain.
The mighty obftacle to move;

He looses all their bars again,

And who shall shut the gates of love?

IV.

Fix'd in omnipotence he bears
The glories of his Father's name,
Suftains his people's weighty cares,
Through ev'ry changing age the fame.

V.

My little all I there fufpend,

Where the whole weight of heav'n is hung: Secure I reft on fuch a friend,

And into raptures wake my tongue.

I.

'ER the bleft etherial plains,
Seats of love and endless peace,

Girt with might Jehovah reigns;
Fountain pure of happiness!

II.

Propt on pillars of his pow'r,

Worlds, with all their maffy weight,
Hanging reft on Him fecure,
Auguft arbiter of fate.

III.

Down where horror clad in night,
Broods o'er dire infernal plains,
He the true effential light,
In vindictive juftice reigns.

IV.

Praise him then ye radiant bands,
In your nobleft ftrains of love,
Who fulfilling his commands,
Round his bright effulgence move.

V.

You, the nearest to his throne,

Chant that love you long to know: Vivid orbs your mufic join,

Sing his praise with brightest glow!

VI.

Gloomy plains of living death,
Fraught with woes that never cease;
With your baneful blafted breath,
Own fubmifs his just decrees.

VII.

Chiefly you whose flagrant guilt,
Had incurr'd his vengeful ire,
Till th' atoning blood was fpilt,
To redeem your fouls from fire.

VIII.

Warbling through the vaft expanfe, To his throne your voices raise, 'Till the facred refonance,

Fill infinitude with praise.

I.

HERE fhall the tribes of Adam find
The fov'reign Good to fill the mind?

Ye fons of moral wifdom, fhow

The fpring whence living waters flow.

II.

Say, will the ftoic's flinty heart
Melt, and this cordial juice impart?

Could Plato find thefe blisful flreams, Amongst his raptures and his dreams?

LII.

In vain I afk; for nature's power
Extends but to this mortal hour:

gave

'Twas but a poor relief fhe Against the terrors of the grave.

IV.

Jefus, our kinfman, and our God,
Array'd in majefty and blood,
Thou art our life; our fouls in thee
Poffefs a full felicity.

V.

All our immortal hopes are laid
In Thee, our Surety and our Head;
Thy cross, thy cradle, and thy throne,
Are big with glories yet unknown.

VI.

Let atheifts fcoff, and Jews blafpheme
Th' eternal life, and Jefu's name;
A word of his almighty breath
Dooms the rebellious world to death.

VII.

But let my foul for ever lie

Beneath the bleffings of thine eye; 'Tis heaven on earth, 'tis heaven above, To fee thy face, to tafte thy love.
