PREFACE.

ELEVEN

Volumes of the Gospel Herald are now completed, and we close this with just the same views of divine truth as those with which we first undertook the work. Amid all the clashing elements around us, and the multifarious views published by many of our cotemporaries, we have, and intend to pursue that course, although not the most popular to any party, which we believe in our conscience, will be productive of the glory of God, and the good of his redeemed church on the earth. Perfectly free and fearless, we have advocated the doctrines of distinguishing grace, set forth in our first address, leaning, neither to the wild rant of Antinomianism, a gospel of corruption, or the doctrines of depraved nature substituted for the doctrines of the cross; nor yet to unscriptural dogmas, that represent the work of redemption, general and sufficient for the world, but which never accomplishes that object. While we give place to none, for a firm adherence to the glorious doctrines of the cross, we most sincerely desire, that neither we nor any of
