PREFACE.

IN announcing this Volume as the Donnellan

Lecture for 1862, the reader should be apprised that, the course being limited to six Lectures, there have been three additional supplied (which accordingly are marked 'Supplemental') in order to comprise-not indeed all the allusions to the Messiah and His times, but-all the Messianic Prophecies' of Isaiah distinctively so called: some not in this number having been noticed in their connection with them. Thus the notable prophecy Chapter vii. 14, has not been treated separately, but will be found considered in its connection with that of chapter ix. 6, 7. That in chapter xlii. 1, is noticed in connection with chapter liii. And that in chapter lxiii. 1-6 in connection with chapter lxi. 1-3, &c.

As a sequel to the Lecturer's former Donnellan Series The Early Prophecies of a Redeemer from the First Promise to the Prophecy of Moses'-it might have been expected that he would have

taken for the subject of this Series those of the
Davidical æra, as next in order. But having mean-
time published his 'Commentary on the Psalms', in
which special attention is given to their Prophetical
character, he felt that this intermediate link had
been supplied as well as he was able, and that the
present attempt might therefore be considered as a
sequel to both Works.

He has only to add that, besides the supplemental
Lectures, there are several Appendixes to those
that were delivered; and numerous Notes from
which, he trusts, it will be at least apparent that
he has made himself acquainted with, and acknow-
ledged, the labours of those who preceded him ;
though he found himself compelled, in many
instances, to differ from them in their Expositions.

In the 'Contents' prefixed there is also given an
Analysis of each Lecture, which the reader will
find useful for reference.
