7 The earth trembled and quaked; the very foundations also of the hills shook, and were removed, because he was wroth
8 There went a smoke out of his presence, and a consuming fire out of his mouth, so that coals were kindled at it.
9 He bowed the heavens also, and came down; and it was dark under his feet.
10 He rode upon the cherubim, and did fly; he came flying upon the wings of the wind..
II He made darkness his secret place; his pavilion round about him with dark water^ and thick clouds to cover him.
12 At the brightness of his presence his clouds, removed; hail-stones, and coals of fire.
13 The Lord also thundered out of heaven, and the Highest gave his voice; hail-stones, and coals. of fire.
14 He sent out his arrows and scattered them; he cast forth lightnings, and destroyed them..
15 The springs of waters were seen, and the foundations of the round world were discovered at thy chiding, O Lord; at the blasting of the breath of thy displeasure.
16 He shall send down from on high to fetch; me, and shall take me out of many waters.
17 He shall deliver me from my strongest enemy, and from them who hate me; for they are too mighty for me.
18 They prevented me in the day of my trouble; but the Lord was my upholder.
S>9 He brought me forth also into a place of liberty;: he brought me forth, even because he had a. favour unto me.
20 The Lord shall reward me after my righteous dealing; according to the cleanness of my hands shall he recompense me.
21 Because I have kept the way of the Lord, and have not forsaken my God, as the wicked doth.
22 For I have an eye unto all his laws, and will not cast his commandments from me.
23 I was also uncorrupt before him, and kept myself from mine own iniquity.
24 Therefore shall the Lord reward me after my righteous dealing, and according unto the cleanness of my hands in his eye-sight.
EVENING PRAYER. •
PSALM XVI1L—Paht II.
THOU shalt light my candle; the Lord my God shall make my darkness to be light.
2 The way of God is an undefiled way; the word of the Lord also is tried in the fire; he is the defender of all them that put their trust in him.
3 For who is God but the Lord: or who hath any strength except our God?
4 It is God that girdeth me with strength of war, and maketh my way perfect.
5 He maketh my feet like harts' feet, and setteth me up on high.
6 He teachcth mine hands to fight, and mine arms shall break even a bow of steel.
7 Thou hast given me the defence of thy salvation; thy right hand also shall hold me up, and thy loving correction shall make me great.
8 Thou shalt make room enough under me to go, that my footsteps shall not slide.
9 The Lord liveth; and blessed be my strong Helper: and praised be the God of my salvation.
10 It is he that delivereth me from my cruel enemies, and setteth me up above mine adversaries thou shalt deliver me from the wicked man.
11 For this cause will I give thanks unto thee, O Lord, among the Gentiles, and sing praises unto thy Name.
THE heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament sheweth his handy work. 2 One day telleth another, and one night certifieth another..
S There is neither speech nor language, but their voices are heard among them.
l Their sound is gone out into all lands. and their words unto the ends of the world.
5 In them hath he set a tabernacle for the- sun,, which cometh forth as a bridegroom out of his chamber, and rcjoiceth as a giant to run his course.
6 It g<5eth forth from the uttermost part of the heaven, and runneth about unto the end! of it again: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.
7 The law of the Lord is an undefined lawy converting the soul :• the testimony of the Lord is sure, andgiveth wisdom unto the simple.
8 The statutes of the Lord are right, and rejoice the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, and giveth light unto the eyes.
9 The fear of the Lord is clean, and endureth for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and: the honey-comb.
11 Moreover by them is thy servant taught, and in keeping of them there is great reward.
12 Who can tell how oft he offendeth? O cleanse thou me from my secret faults.
13 Keep thy servant also from presumptuous, sins, lest they get the dominion over me:, so shall I be undefiled, and innocent from the great oifence..
1* Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be alway acceptable in thy sight,, 16 O Lord, my Strength and my Redeemer,..
MORNING PRA YER.
THE Lord hear thee in the day of trouble: the Name of the God of Jacob defend thee:
2 Send thee help from the sanctuary, and strengthen thee out of Sion.
3 We will rejoice in thy salvation, and triumph in the name of the Lord our God: the Lord perform all thy petitions.
4 Now know I, that the Lord helpeth his Anointed, and will hear him from his holy heaven; even with the wholesome strength of his right hand.
5 Some put their trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.
6 They are brought down, and fallen; but we are risen, and stand upright.
7 Save, Lord, and hear us, O King of heaven, when we call upon thee.
PSALM XXII.—Part I.
MY God, my God, look upon me: why hast thou forsaken me; and art so far from helping me, and from the words of my complaint?
2 O my God, I cry in the day-time, but thou heaiest not: and in the night-season also I take no rest.
3 But thou continuest holy, O thou Worship of Israel.
4 Our fathers hoped in thee, they trusted in thee, and thou didst deliver them.
5 They called upon thee, and were holpen : they put their trust in thee, and were not confounded.
6 But as for me, I am a worm, and no man; a Tery scorn of men, and the outcast of the people.
7 All they that see me, laugh me to scorn : they shoot out their lips, and shake their heads, saying*
8 He trusted in God, that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, if ye will have him.
9 But thou art he that took me out of my mother's womb: thou wast my hope when I handed yet upon my mother's breasts.
10 I have been left unto thee ever since I was born: thou art my God, even from my mother's womb.
11 O go not from me, for trouble is hard at hand, and there is none to help me.
12 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart also in the midst of my body is even like melting wax.
13 My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue cleaveth to my gums, and thou hast brought me into the dust o fdeath.
It They pierced my hands and my feet; I may tell all my bones: they stand staring and looking upon me.
15 They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.
16 But be not thou far from me, O Lord: thou art my succour; haste thee to help me.
17 Deliver my soul from the sword; my darling from the power of the dog.
18 Save me from the lion's mouth; thou hast heard me also from among the horns of the uni corns.
I WILL declare thy Name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.
2 O praise the Lord, ye that fear him: magnify him, all ye of the seed of Jacob; and fear him, A ye seed of Israel.
