II.

What did thine only Son endure
Before I drew my Breath!
What Pain, what Labour to fecure
My Soul from endless Death!
III.

Author of Faith, to Thee I lift
My weary, longing Eyes;
Preferve in me that precious Gift!-----
My Soul without it dies!

Happy is the Man that feareth always. Prov. xxviii. 14.

OD of all Grace and Majesty!

G Supremely Great and Good

If I have Favour found with Thee
Thro' the atoning Blood!
The Guard of all thy Mercies give,
And to my Pardon join

A Fear left I fhould ever grieve
The gracious Sp'rit Divine.
II.

If Mercy is indeed with Thee,

May I obedient prove,

Nor e'er abuse my Liberty,

Or fin against thy Love:

This choiceft Fruit of Faith beftow

On a poor * Sojourner:

And

To the great everlafting I AM,

To the LAMB that was flain, fit.
And liveth again,

Hallelujah to GoD and the * LAMB!

And now the gracious Wonder fhew 1:0

And take away the Stone.

II.

I want a Principle within
Of jealous, godly Fear;
A Senfibility of Sin,

A Pain to feel it near:
I want the first Approach to feel
Of Pride or vain Defire,

To catch the Wand'rings of my Will,
And quench the kindling Fire.

III.

From Thee that I no more may part,
No more thy Goodnefs grieve

The filial Awe, the + fleshly Heart,
The tender Confcience give:

Quick as the Apple of an Eye,
O GOD! my Confcience make,

Jer. ii. 19.

Thy Backfliding fhall reprove thee.

Ι.

ESU! let thy pitying Eye
Call back a wand'ring Sheep :

Falfe to Thee like Peter I

Wou'd fain like Peter weep:
Let me be by Grace reftor'd,

On me be all Long-fuff'ring fhewn,
Turn and look upon me LORD.*
And break, mine Heart of Stone!
II.

SAVIOUR! Prince enthron'd above,
Repentance to impart, f
Give me, through thy dying Love,
The humble contrite Heart:
Give, what I've long implor'd,

A Portion of thy Love unknown--
Turn, &c.

III.

See me, SAVIOUR, from above, 41
Nor fuffer me to die,

Life, and Happiness, and Love,

Drop from thy gracious Eye :

Speak the reconciling Word,

And let thy Mercy melt me down→→→

Turn, &c.

* Luke xxii, 61. former Part. † A&s v. 31.

And when like wand'ring Sheep we stray'd,
He brought us to his Fold again.
III.

We'll crowd thy Gates with thankful Songs,
High as the Heavens our Voices. raife;
And Earth with her ten thousand Tongues
Shall fill thy Courts with founding Praife.

IV.

Wide as the World is thy Command,
Vaft as Eternity thy Love,

Firm as a Rock thy Truth must stand,
When rolling Years shall cease to move.

HYMN LXXXIII

Humiliation.

I.

LORD, we are vile, conceiv'd in Sin,

And born unholy and unclean;

Sprung from the Man, whofe guilty Fall
Corrupts the Race, and taints us all.
II.

Soon as we draw our Infant Breath,
The Seeds of Sin grow up for Death!
Thy Law demands a perfect Heart,
But we're defil'd in ev'ry Part,
III.

Behold! we fall before thy Face:
Our only Refuge, is thy Grace;
No outward Forms can make us clean,
The Leprofy lies deep within. -
IV.

JESUS Our GOD! thy Blood alone
Hath Pow'r fufficient to atone ;

LORD! let us hear thy pard'ning Voice,
And make our down-caft Hearts rejoice!

HYMN LXXXIV. :i

PSALM cl.

I.

RAISE the LORD, who reigns above,
And keeps his Court below,

Praife the holy GoD of Love,

And all his Greatnefs fhew:
Praise him for his noble Deeds,

Praise him for his matchlefs Pow'r;
Him from whom all Good proceeds,
Let Earth and Heaven adore.
II.

Publish, spread to All around,
The great IMMANUEL's Name,
Let the Trumpets martial Sound,
HIM LORD of HOSTS proclaim:
Praise him ev'ry tuneful String,
All the Reach of heav'nly Art,
All the Powers of Mufic bring,
The Mufic of the Heart.

Him, in whom they move, and live,
Let every Creature fing,
Glory to their Maker give,

And Homage to their King:
Hallow'd be his Name beneath,
As in Heaven on Earth ador'd,
Praise the LORD in every Breath;
Let all Things praife the LORD!
