HYMN CLVIII.

Another.

Matt. xxvii. 50.—54•

I.

IS done! th' atoning Work is done!
JESUS the great REDEEMER dies!
All Nature feels th' important Groan:
Loud echoing thro' the Earth and Skies ;
The Earth doth to her Center quake,
And Heav'n as Hell's deep Gloom is black!
II.

The Temple's Veil is rent in twain,
While JESUS meekly bows his Head,
The Rocks refent his inortal Pain,.
The yawning Graves give up their Dead,
The Bodies of the Saints arife,
Reviving as their SAVIOUR dies.
III.

And fhall not we his Death partake,
In fympathetic Anguish groan?

O SAVIOUR let thy Paffion thake

Our Earth, and rend our Hearts of Stone !

To fecond Life, our Souls reftore,

And wake us that we fleep no more!

Heb. vi. 6. + If. lxi, 1.

Whole Love is ever new.

Endlefs Scenes of Wonder rife
With that mysterious Tree,
Crucify'd before our Eyes

Where we our Maker fee:
JESUS, LORD, what haft Thou done!
Publish we the Death Divine,
Stop, and gaze, and fall, and own,
Never was Love like Thine!
III.

Never Love nor Sorrow was
Like that our JESUS fhew'd;
See him ftretch'd on yonder Cross
And crufh'd beneath our Load!
Now difcern the DEITY,

Now his heav'nly Birth declare!
Faith cries out, 'Tis He, 'tis Hc,
My God that fuffers there!`
