scrip for your' jour'ney, ne'ither two co'ats, neither sho'es, nor yet staves: for the work'man is worthy of his meat. 11 And in'to whatsoever city or town ye shall en'ter, enqui're who in it is worthy; and there abi'de till ye go thence. 12 And when ye come in'to an house, salu'te it. 13 And if the house be worthy, let your pe'ace come upon' it; but if it be not worthy, let your pe'ace return' to you. 14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depa'rt out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet. 15 Verily I say un'to you, It shall be more tol'erable for the land of Sodom and Gomor'rha in the day of judg'ment than for that city.

16 Behold, I send you fo'rth as she'ep in the midst of wolves be ye ther'efore wi'se as serpents, and ha'rmless as doves. 17 But bewa're of men; for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their syn'agogues: 18 And ye shall be brought befo're gov'ernors and kings for my sake, for a tes'timony against' them and the Gen'tiles. 19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak; for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall spe'ak. 20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you. 21 And the broth'er shall deliver up the broth'er to death, and the fa'ther the child: and the chil'dren shall rise up against their' pa'rents, and cause them to be put to death. 22 And ye shall be ha'ted of a'll 'men' for my name's sake: but he that endu'reth to the end shall be saved. 23 But when they per'secute you in this city, flee ye in'to anoth'er: for verily I say un'to you, Ye shall not have gone o'ver the cities of Israel till the Son of man be come. 24 The disciple is not above 'his' mas'ter, nor the servant above his lo'rd. 25 It is enough for the disci'ple that he be as his mas'ter, and the ser'vant as his lo'rd. If they have called the Master of the house Beelzebub, how much mo're 'shall they call' them of his household? 26 Fe'ar them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be kno'wn. 27 What I tell you in darkness, 'that' spe'ak ye in light and what ye he'ar in the ear, that' pre'ach ye upon the hous'e-tops. 28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rath'er fear him which is a'ble to destroy' bo'th so'ul and body in hell. 29 Are not two spar'rows sold for a

fa'rthing? and one of them shall not fa'll on the ground without your Father. 30 But the ver'y ha'irs of your head are all numbered. 31 Fe'ar ye not therefore, ye are of more value than man'y sparrows. 32 Whosoev'er therefore shall confess' me befo're men, him will I confess' also befo're my Father which is in heaven. 33 But whosoever shall deny me befo're men, him will I also deny' befo're my Father which is in heaven. 34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a swo'rd. 35 For I am come to set a man at variance against' his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the da'ughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. 36 And a man's fo'es 'shall be they of his o'wn hous'ehold. 37 He that lov'eth father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me, is not worthy of me. 38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. 39 He that findeth his life shall lo'se it; and he that lo'seth his life for my sa'ke shall find it.

40 He that rece'iveth you, rece'iveth me; and he that reçe'iveth me, reçe'įveth him that sent me. 41 He that rece'iveth a proph'et in the name of a prophet, shall receive a proph'et's reward; and he that receiveth a right'eous man in the na'me of a right'eous man, shall receive a right'eous man's reward. 42 And whosoever shall give to drink un'to one of these little ones a cup of co'ld 'wa'ter' o'nly in the name of a disci'ple, ver'ily I say un'to you, he shall in no wise lo'se his rewa'rd.

CHAP. XI.

And it came to pass', when Jesus had made an end of comman'ding his twelve disci'ples, he depa'rted thence, to teach and to pre'ach in their cities.

2

Now, when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disci'ples, 3 And said un'to him, Art thou he that should' come, or do we look for another? Je'sus an'swered and said un'to them, Go and shew John again' those things which ye do he'ar and see: 5 The bli'nd receive their sight, and the la'me walk; the lep'ers are cleansed, and the deaf he'ar; the dead are ra'ised up, and the po'or have the gos'pel pre'ached to them. 6 And bless'ed is 'he,' whosoever shall not be offen'ded in me.

7 And as they departed, Je'sus began' to say un'to the mul'titudes concer'ning John, What' went ye out in'to the wilderness to see? A re'ed shaken with the wind? But

8

what' went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft ra'iment? Behold, they that wea'r soft clo'thing' are in kings' hou'ses. 9 But what went ye out for to se'ę? A prophet? yea, I say un'to you, and more than a proph'et. 10 For this is 'he' of whom it is written, Behold, I send my mes'senger befo're thy fa'ce, which shall prepa're thy way befo're thee. 11 Verily I say un'to you, Amon'g them that are born of wom'en there hath not risen a grea'ter than John the Bap'tist; notwithstan'ding, he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 12 And from the days of John the Bap'tist until' now the kin'gdom of heaven suf'fereth violence, and the vi'olent take it by force. 13 For a'll the prophets and the law prophesied until' John. And if ye will receive it,' this is Eli'as, which was for to come. 15 He that hath e'ars to he'ar, let him he'ar.

16 But whereunto' shall I li'ken this genera'tion? It is like un'to chil'dren sitting in the markets, and calling un'to their fellows, 17 And sa'ying, We have pi'ped un'to you, and ye have not danc'ed; we have mo'urned un'to you, and ye have not lamented. 18 For John ca'me ne'ither e'ating nor drink'ing, and they say, He hath a devil. 19 The Son of man ca'me e'ating and drink'ing, and they say, Beho'ld man gluttonous, and a wi'ne-bibber, a friend of publicans and sin'ners but Wis'dom is justified of her children. 20 Then began he to upbra'id the cit'ies wherein' most of his might'y works were done, because they repen'ted not. 21 Woe un'to thee, Chora'zin! woe un'to thee, Bethsa'ida ! for if the might'y works which were done in you had been done in Ty're and Si'don, they would have repen'ted long ago' in sack'cloth and ash'es. 22 But I say un'to you, It shall be more tolerable for Ty're and Si'don at the day of judg'ment than for you. 23 And thou, Caper'naum, which art exalted un'to heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the might'y works which have been done in theẹ hạd been done in Sod'om, it would have remained until this day. 24 But I say un'to you, That it shall be more tol'erable for the land of Sod'om in the day of judgment than for thee.

25 At that time Je'sus an'swered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lo'rd of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and pru'dent, and hast reve'aled them un'to ba'bes. 27 Even so, Father; for so it seemed good' in thy sight. 27 A'll things are delivered un'to me of my Father: and no man kno'weth the Sọn,

but the Father; neither kno'weth an'y man the Father, savo the Son, and 'he' to whomsoever the Son will reve'al 'him.' 28 Come un'to me, a'll 'ye' that la'bour and are heav'y la'den, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yo'ke upon' you, and learn of me; for I am me'ek and lo'wly in hea'rt: and ye shall find rest un'to your souls. 30 For my yo'ke 'is' e'asy, and my bur'den is light.

CHAP. XII. At that time Je'sus went on the sab'bath-day through the co'rn; and his disci'ples were an hun'gered, and began' to pluck the e'ars of co'rn, and to e'at. 2 But when the Pharisees saw it,' they said un'to him, Behold, thy disci'ples do that which is not lawful to do upon' the sab'bath-day. 3 But he said un'to them, Have ye not read what Da'vid did, when he was an hun'gered, and they that were with him; How he entered in'to the house of Go'd, and did e'at the shew-bread, which was not la'wful for him to e'at, ne'ither for them which were with him, but o'nly for the prie'sts? 5 Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sab'bath-days the prie'sts in the temple profa'ne the sab'bath, and are bla'meless? 6 But I say un'to you, That in this place is 'one' grea'ter than the temple. But if ye had known what 'this' me'aneth, I will have mercy, and not sac'rifice, ye would' not have condem'ned the guiltless. For the Son of man is Lo'rd e'ven of the sab'bath-day.

9 And when he was departed thence, he went into their syn'agogue: 10 And, behold, there was a man which had 'his' hand with'ered. And they asked him, sa'ying, Is it la'wful to heal on the sab'bath-days? that they might accu'ṣe him. 11 And he said un'to them, What man shall there be among you that shall have one she'ep, and if it fall into a pit on the sab'bath-day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it' out? 12 How much then is a man bet'ter than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sab'bath-days. Then saith he to the man, Stretch fo'rth thine hand. And he stretched 'it' fo'rth; and it was resto'red who'lę like as the oth'er.

:

14 Then the Pharisees went out, and held a coun'cil against him, how they might destroy' him. 15 But when Je'sus knew it,' he withdrew himself' from thence and grea't multitudes followed him, and he healed them a'll; 16 And charged them that they should not make him kno'wn: 17 That it might be fulfilled which was spo'ken by Eṣa'ias the prophet, sa'ying, 18 Behold my servant, whom I havẹ

cho'sen; my beloved, in whom my so'ul is well pleased: I will put my Spir'it upon' him, and he shall shew judg'ment to the Gen'tiles. 19 He shall not strivę, nor cry; neither shall an'y man he'ar his voice in the streets. 20 A bruised re'ed shall he not brea'k, and smo'king flax shall he not quench, till he send fo'rth judg'ment un'to vic'tory. 21 And in his na'me shall the Gen'tiles trust.

22 Then was brought un'to him one possess'ed with a dev'il, bli'nd and dumb; and he healed him, insomuch' that the blind and dumb both spa'ke and saw. 23 And all the pe'ople were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of Da'vid? 24 But when the Pharisees heard it,' they said, This fellow' doth not cast' out dev'ils, but by Beelzebub, the prince of the dev'ils. 25 And Je'sus knew their thoughts, and said un'to them, Ev'ery kin'gdom divi'ded against itself' is brought to desolation; and every city or house divi'ded against itself' shall not stand: 26 And if Sa'tan cast' out Sa'tan, he is divi'ded against' himself'; how shall then his kingdom stand? 27 And if I by Beelzebub cast' out dev'ils, by whom do your children cast' 'them' out? ther'efore they shall be your judges. 28 But if I cast' out dev'ils by the Spirit of Go'd, then the kingdom of Go'd is come un'to you. 29 Or else how can one en'ter in'to a strong man's house, and spoil his good's, except' he first bi'nd the strong man? and then he will spoil his house. 30 He that is not with me is against' me; and he that gath'ereth not with me scat'tereth abro'ad.

31 Wherefore I say un'to you, A'll man'ner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiv'en un'to men: but the blasphemy against the Holy' Gho'st shall not be forgiv'en un'to men. 32 And whosoev'er spe'aketh a word against the Sọn of man, it shall be forgiven him but whosoev'er speaketh against the Holy Gho'st, it shall not be forgiv'en him, neither in this world, ne'ither in the world' to come. 33 Either make the tree good', and his fruit good'; or else make the tree corrupt', and his fruit corrupt': for the tree is known by 'his' fruit. 34 O genera'tion of vi'pers, how can ye, be'ing e'vil, spe'ak good' things? for out of the abun'dance of the heart, the mouth spe'aketh. 35 A good' man, out of the good' treas'ure of the hea'rt, brin'geth fo'rth good' things and an e'vil man, out of the e'vil treasure, brin'geth fo'rth e'vil things. 36 But I say un'to you, That every i'dle word that men shall speak, they shall give account' thereof
