That we might receive the promise of the Spirit, through faith.-Gal. iii. 14.

COLLECT.

No. 23.

O GOD, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have access to thee at all times, and for whose sake thou hast promised to deal mercifully with us; in his name we beseech thee to manifest thyself unto us at this time, and send thy Holy Spirit, the Comforter, to teach us all things; give us the new birth unto righteousness and faith in the blood of the Lamb, that we may keep thy commandments to do them, and be accepted of thee through the same our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Our Father, &c.

And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.— Ps. ix. 10.

O GOD, our refuge and strength, grant unto us we beseech thee, humble and contrite hearts, that our religious duties may be spiritually and acceptably performed. May we place our entire dependance upon the mercy and grace of God in Christ Jesus, seeking for that sanctification of the Spirit which is always the fruit of belief in the truth, and persevere in the ways of religion and godliness to the end of our lives. Comfort our hearts, encourage our hopes,-increase our faith, -lead us by thy Spirit, and accept of us in Christ, who hath taught us to address thee, as Our Father,

Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord.-Ps. xxxi. 24.

O LORD God Almighty and everlasting, we thy humble and unworthy servants desire in all sincerity of heart that thou wouldest draw nigh unto us, and compassionate us; let us not have to mourn the banishment of the heart,-the barrenness of devotion which we have sometimes felt; but grant unto us, we beseech thee, a constant supply of grace according to our need; that our souls may be strengthened and our spirits animated and enlivened through faith, by the cheering prospects of eternity, to run with renewed ardour the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith; and with unwearied hearts and minds seek thy service and thy love, that when we lie down on the bed of death we may awake unto everlasting life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Our Father, &c.

O LORD God of Israel, who art the rewarder of the diligent and faithful, and the eternal censurer of them that believe not and are unfruitful, accept, we beseech thee, our heartfelt gratitude for the extension of thy mercy in the suspension of thy judgments towards us, who have so greatly and constantly sinned against thee; and grant that from this time forth we may seek thee with full purpose of heart, continuing instant in prayer, that we may be purged by the Spirit and washed and made clean in the blood of the Lamb, having our hearts daily renewed, looking steadfastly by faith on the Son of God for our eternal redemption, that when the morning of eternity shall dawn upon us, we may be accounted worthy of an inheritance with the saints in light, through the same thy Son, our Lord and

For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. Acts ii. 39.

O GOD, who, after the glorious resurrection and ascension of thy beloved Son, didst send unto the Apostles the Holy Ghost, through whose preaching many were converted unto thee; grant unto thy ministers now, we beseech thee, a full measure of the Spirit, that as on that day, so on this, thousands may be awakened to the light, repent and believe, giving thanks unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb, for ever and ever.— Our Father, &c.
