*It would be well to have an Enactment of the Legislature, designating the Crime, and the Punishment, of Falsifying Names in the Marriage Contract and Ceremony.

Minister.-You A. B. and C. D. have now in the Presence of Almighty God, and in the sight and hearing of all now assembled in this place, you have declared yourselves Husband and Wife, from this time, and as long as both of you shall be in life. God therefore has joined you together in one in this ordinance, and let not man put you assunder. May God Almighty give grace to both of you to live according to his Holy Instructions which have at this time been read in your hearing: And may you enjoy great happiness together in this Union.

[Let the Minister here give an Address on the duties of Married Life.]

Minister.-Let us Pray.

[All kneel.]

Minister.-O God, thou art the Creator of this world, and the arranger of all its concerns. Thou hast created mankind, male and female; and thou hast appointed that the man should leave his father and his mother, and should cleave unto his wife, and that thenceforth they two should be one. Be pleased therefore, O God our Creator to look in kindness and love upon these two persons now in thy presence who have at this time been united together according to thy holy institution. Grant unto them, O Lord, thy rich and abundant blessing in this their union, and may it prove to them, for their temporal, their spiritual, and their eternal welfare.

Assembly.-O God, the Creator and Legislator of the Universe, be pleased to bless these two persons now united together according to thy holy appointment, and make them to each other, a present, and an everlasting blessing.

Minister.-Almighty Father, grant unto these two now formed into one thy Holy Spirit to teach them the precepts of thy word respecting their duties in

this new and close relationship in which they now stand to each other. May these thy injunctions which have been read in their hearing at this time be deeply impressed upon their minds and upon their hearts: may they meditate on them day after day, and be enabled to obey them with willingness, affection, and constancy. May they prove true and sweet helps to each other in all the vicissitudes of this ever-varying life.

Assembly. O Lord, give thy Spirit to this newly formed Pair, that they may yield themselves up to thy holy precepts, and may they be greatly blessed

in each other.

Minister. O Lord our God, enable these two fully to understand, and entirely to rely on thy Son Jesus Christ for their salvation: may they be true and faithful servants to Jesus Christ as their only Lord and Master and may they be blessed in the Lord Jesus for evermore.

:

Assembly. O Lord, may these two rest in, and obey, thy Son our only Saviour, and be blessed in him for ever.

Minister.-Almighty God, grant unto all now present who stand in the relationship of Husbands and Wives, solemnly to consider the duties which they owe to each other, and enable them to fulfil these duties with all fidelity, affection, and godliness. Grant also, O God, thy blessing unto all here before thee who are not under these circumstances; may they view and consider thy institutions with that seriousness of mind which every appointment of our Creator demands of us: and when they may think of entering into this relationship, may they have judgment and discretion given to them, to make such a wise and suitable election as shall prove to them a blessing for this life, and for that which is to come.

Assembly.-O Lord, grant unto us all to reverence thy appointments, and to fulfil our respective duties;

and so to set thee before us continually, that we may enjoy thy blessing in all our ways.

Minister.-O Lord our Heavenly Father, graciously look upon all this company assembled on this occasion, and grant that we may all know our sinfulness, and that we may all trust in the atonement made by thy Son Jesus Christ, and abide continually in him, bringing forth the fruits of holiness, that so we may all meet on the right hand of the Great Judge in the last day.

Assembly.-O Lord our God, grant that we may all find mercy of the Lord in that last and solemn day.

Minister. O God our Father, be with us all whilst we remain together congratulating This Couple in their Union now formed, and in rejoicing with them, and with each other. Keep us, O Lord, from sin, and from every thing unbecoming us as men endowed with reason, and with the knowledge of thy holy word. May we rejoice with sobriety and godliness, and be greatly refreshed and blessed in the company

of each other.

Assembly. O Lord, grant unto us that we may now rejoice with each other in thy fear, and may thy blessing truly rest upon us all.

Minister.-Merciful and Gracious Father, hear us and answer us in all these our petitions for our Redeemer's sake: amen.

Assembly.-Amen, and amen.

[All rise and stand.]

Minister. Let us now sing to the praise and the glory of God:-"Since Jesus &c." [pronouncing the two first lines of the following hymn:-or, referring to some other, and pronouncing the two first lines of it.]

1. Since Jesus thou didst once appear,
To grace a marriage feast,
We humbly ask thy presence here,
To bless each wedding guest.

2. Upon the bridal pair look down,
Who now have plighted hands,
Their union with thy favour crown,
And bless the nuptial bands.

3. With gifts of grace their souls endow,
Of all rich dowries best,

Their substance bless, and peace bestow,
To sweeten all the rest.

4. In purest love their hearts unite,
That they with christian care,
May make domestic burdens light,
By taking mutual share.

5. True helpers may they prove indeed,
In prayer, and faith, and hope;
And see with joy a godly seed,
To build their household up.

6. May they as fellow heirs of grace,
Their lives together spend ;
Death makes the marriage union cease,
But grace shall never end.

[All kneel.]

Minister.-May the Lord bless you, and keep you may the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious unto you: may the Lord lift up his countenance upou you, and give you peace: both now, and for evermore: amen.

Assembly.-Amen, and amen.
