Num. 24. 3 So the LORD our God delivered into our hands * Og also the king of Bashan, and all Num, his people: and we smote him untill none was left to him remaining. 4 And we took all his cities at that time, there wat not a citie which' we took not from them, threescore cities, all the region of Argob, the kingdome of Og in Bashan. 5 All these cities were fenced with high walls, gates and barres, beside unwalled towns a great many. 6 And we utterly destroyed them, as we did unto Sihon king of Heshbon, utterly destroying the men, women, and children of every citic. 7 But all the cattel, and the spoil of the cities, we took for a prey to our selve s. 8 And we took at that time out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites, the land that was on this fide Jordan, from the river of Ar non unto mount Hermon: 9 (Which Hermon the Sidonians call Sirion: and the Amorites call it Shenir) 10 All the cities of the plain, and all Gilead, and all Bashan, unto Salchah and Edrei, cities of the kingdome of Og in Bashan : 11 For onely Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold, his bed-stead was a bed-ftead of iron: is it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? nine cubits was the length thereof, and foure cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man. 33. 12 And this land which we poffefsed at that time, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, and half mount Gilead, and the cities there-Nam. of gave I unto the Reubenites, and to the Ga-33. dites. 13 And the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, being the kingdome of Og, gave I unto the half-tribe of Manasseh; all the region of Argob, with all Bashan, which was called the land of giants. 14 Jair the sonne of Manassch took all the countrey of Argob unto the coasts of Geshuri, and Maachathi; and called them after his own name, Bashan-*havoth-jair, unto this day. Is And I gave Gilead unto Machir. 16 And unto the Reubenites, and unto the Gadites, I gave from Gilead even unto the river Arnon, half the valley, and the border, even unto the river Jabbok, which is the border of the children of Ammon : 17 The plain also, and Jordan, and the coaft thereof, from Chinereth even unto the fea of the Joth.! &c. Or, the 27 Get thee up into the top of ‡ Pisgah, and lift up thine eyes west-ward, and north-ward, and fouth-ward, and east-ward, and behold it with thine eyes: for thou shalt not go over this Jordan. 28 But charge Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him: for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which thou shalt see. 29 So we abode in the valley over against Beth-peor. CHAP. IIII. because of * Baal-peor: for all the men that Num.25.4. followed Baal-peor, the LORD thy God hath &c. destroyed them from among you. 4 But ye that did cleave unto the LORD your God, are alive every one of you this day. 5 Behold, I have taught you ftatutes and judgements, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the larid whither ye go to possesse it. , 6 Keep therefore th and and do them for this your wisdome and your understanding in the fight of the nations, which shall heare all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wife and understanding people. 7 For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them as the LORD our God in all things that we call upon him for? 8 And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgements so righteous, as all this law which I fet before you this day? 9 Onely take heed to thy self, and keep thy foul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have feen, and left they depart from 'thy heart all the dayes of thy life: but teach them thy sonnes, and thy sonnes sonnes: 10 Specially the day that thou stoodst before the LORD thy God in Horeb, when the LORD said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them heare my words, that they may learn to fear me all the dayes that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children. Chap. 9.3 DEUTEROΝΟΜΙΕ. 16 Lest ye corrupt your selves, and make you a graven image, the fimilitude of any figure, the likenesse of male or female, 17 The likenesse of any beast that is on the earth, the likenesse of any winged fowl that dieth in the aire, 18 The likenesse of any thing that creepeth on the ground, the likenesse of any fish that's in the waters beneath the earth: 19 And left thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the funne, and the moon, and the starres, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath Tdivided unto all nations under the whole heaven. 20 But the LORD hath taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, even out of Egypt, to be unto him a people of inheritance, as ye are this day. 21 Furthermore, the LORD was angry with me for your fakes, and sware that I should not go over Jordan, and that I should not go in unto that good land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance. 22 But I must die in this land, I must not go over Jordan: but ye shall go over and poffeffe that good land. 23 Take heed unto your selves, lest ye forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which he made with you, and make you a graven image, or the likenesse of any thing which the LORD thy God hath forbidden thee. 24 For the LORD thy God is a consuming Heb. 12.29 fire, even a jealous God. 25 When thou shalt beget children, and childrens children, and shalt have remained long in the land, and shall corrupt your selves, and make a graven image, or the likenesse of any thing, and shall do evil in the fight of the LORD thy God, to provoke him to anger: 26 I call heaven and earth to witnesse against you this day, that ye shall foon utterly perish from off the land whereunto you go over Jordan to possesse it:ye shall not prolong your dayes upon it, but shall utterly be destroyed. 27 And the LORD shall scatter you among the nations, and ye shall be left few in number among the heathen whither the LORD shall lead you. 28 And there ye shall serve gods, the work of mens hands, wood and stone, which neither fee nor heare, nor eat, nor fmell. 29. But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt finde him, if thou seek him with all thy heart, and with all thy foul. Gods love to his people. 30 When thou art in tribulation, and all these things † are come upon thee, even in the the latter dayes, if thou turn to the LORD thy found God, and shalt be obedient unto his voice : 31 (For the LORD thy God is a mercifull God) he will not fotsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them. 32 For ask now of the dayes that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man upon the earth, and ask from the one fide of heaven unto the other, whether there hath been any such thing as this great thing is, or hath been heard like it? 33 Did ever people heare the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as thou hast heard, and live?: 34 Or hath God affayed to go and take him a nation from the midst of another nation, by temptations, by signes, and by wonders, and by warre, and by a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm, and by great terrours, according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes? 35 Unto thee it was shewed, that thou mightest know that the LORD he is God; there is none else besides him. 36 Out of heaven he made thee to heare his voice, that he might instruct thee: and upon earth he shewed thee his great fire, and thou heardest his words out of the midst of the fire. 37 And because he loved thy fathers, therefore he chose their feed after them, and brought thee out in his fight with his mighty power out of Egypt: 38 To drive out nations from before thee, greater and mightier then thou art, to bring thee in to give thee their land for an inheritance, as it is this day. 39 Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else. 40 Thou shalt keep therefore his statutes and his commandments which I command thee this day, that it may go well with thee and with thy children after thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy dayes upon the earth, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, for ever, 41 Then Moses severed three cities on this side Iordan, toward the funne rifing : 42 That the flayer might flee thither, which should kill his neighbour unawares, and hated him not in times past; and that fleeing unto one of these cities, he might live: 43 Namely, * Bezer in thewildernesse, in Joh.20 the |
