* Ye fhall not do every Man whatsoever is right in his own Eyes; but what Thing foever the Lord commandeth you, observe to do it. Thou fhalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.

Hereby we do know that we know Jefus Chrift, if we keep his Commandments. He that faith, I know him, and keepeth not his Commandments, is a Liar, and the Truth is not in him: But whofo keepeth his Word, in him verily is the Love of God perfected. Hereby alfo know we that we are in him; who hath faid, Ye are my Friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. z He that doth the Will of God abideth for

ever.

a Whofoever committeth Sin, tranfgreffeth also the Law; for Sin is the Tranfgreffion of the Law.

The Soul that doth_aught presumptuously, the fame reproacheth the Lord. Because he hath defpifed the Word of the Lord, his Iniquity fhall be upon him.

Not every one that faith unto Chrift, Lord, Lord, fhall enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he that doth the Will of his Father which is in Heaven.

Circumcifion is nothing, and Uncircumcifion is nothing, but the keeping of the Commandments of God.

e Thus faith the Lord of Hofts, the God of Ifrael; I fpake not to your Fathers in the Day that I brought them out of the Land of Egypt, concerning Burnt-offerings or Sacrifices; but this Thing commanded I them, faying, Obey my Voice, and walk ye in all my Ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.

f Behold, to obey is better than Sacrifice, and to hearken, than the Fat of Rams.

& Be ye Doers of the Word, and not Hearers only, deceiving your own felves: For if any be. a Hearer of the Word, and not a Doer, he is like unto a Man beholding his natural Face in a Glafs; for he beholdeth himfelf, and goeth his Way, and ftraightway forgetteth what manner of Man he was: But whofo looketh into the perfect Law of Liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful Hearer, but a Doer of the Work; this Man fhall be blessed in his Deed. For not the Hearers of the Law are juft before God, but the Doers of the Law fhall be justified.

We ought to obey God rather than Men: For we are the Servants of the God of Heaven and Earth.

i No Man can ferve two Masters, for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot ferve God and Mammon.

SUBMISSION.

And

Submit yourselves to God; faying, upon all Occafions, The Will of the Lord be done. take heed that ye never charge God foolishly.

Whatever Troubles fhall befal any of you, he ought to fay, It is the Lord, let him do what feemeth him good. If it be poffible, let this Cup pafs from me; nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

m If I fhall find Favour in the Eyes of the Lord, he will profper me in my Ways; but if he have no Delight in me, behold here am I, let him do to me as feemeth good unto him.

n

My Son, defpife not thou the Chastening of the Lord, neither be weary of his Correction, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him. For whom the Lord loveth, he correcteth, even as a Father the Son in whom he delighteth.

• Should it be according to thy Mind? He will recompenfe it, whether thou refufe, or whether thou choose.

If ye endure Chaftening, God dealeth with you as with Sons. We have had Fathers of our Flesh, which corrected us, and we gave them Reverence; fhall we not much rather be in Subjection unto the Father of Spirits? For they chaftened us after their own Pleasure, but he for our Profit, that we might be Partakers of his Holinefs. Now no Chaftening for the prefent feemeth to be joyous, but grievous: Nevertheless,

afterward it yieldeth the peaceable Fruit of Righteousness unto them which are exercifed thereby.

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty Hand of God, that he may exalt you in due Time.

In your Patience poffefs ye your Souls; knowing that Tribulation worketh Patience, and Patience Experience, and Experience Hope. Wherefore, gird up the Loins of your Mind, be fober, and hope to the End. And let them that fuffer according to the Will of God, commit the keeping of their Souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

s Let not your Heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. If thou faint in the Day of Adverfity, thy Strength is fmall.

Caft not away your Confidence; but take joyfully the fpoiling of your Goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in Heaven a better and an enduring Subftance.

The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the Name of the Lord. What! fhall we receive Good at the Hand of God, and fhall we not receive Evil?

Although the Fig-tree fhall not bloffom, neither fhall Fruit be in the Vines, the Labour of the Olive fhall fail, and the Fields thall yield no Meat, the Flock fhall be cut off from the Fold, and there shall be no Herd in the Stalls; yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my Salvation.

* Ye fhall not cut yourselves for the Dead.

Sorrow not for them which are asleep, even as others which have no Hope; for if we believe that Jefus died, and rofe again, even fo them also which fleep in Jefus will God bring with him.

Fret not thyfelf because of evil Doers, neither be thou envious against the Workers of Iniquity; for there fhall be no Reward to the evil Man ;· the Candle of the Wicked fhall be put out.

a Count it all Joy when you fall into divers Temptations. Knowing this, that the trying of your Faith worketh Patience. But let Patience have her perfect Work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.,

Bleffed is the Man that endureth Temptation: For when he is tried, he fhall receive the Crown of Life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

Let none of you fuffer as a Murderer, or as a Thief, or as an evil Doer, or as a bufy Body in other Mens Matters. But if any of you be an Offender, or have committed any Thing worthy of Death, let him not refufe to die.

If ye fuffer for Righteoufnefs Sake, happy are ye. For it is better, if the Will of God be fo, that ye fuffer for well doing, than for evil doing. This is thank-worthy, if a Man for
