will not at all acquit the Wicked; he will by no means clear the Guilty.

He will not be flack to him that hateth him; he will repay him to his Face.

1 If thou seest the Oppreffion of the Poor, and violent perverting of Judgment and Justice in a Nation, marvel not at the Matter, for he that is higher than the highest regardeth, and there be higher than they.

The Soul that finneth, it fhall die. The Son fhall not bear the Iniquity of the Father, neither fhall the Father bear the Iniquity of the Son. The Righteoufnefs of the Righteous fhall be upon him, and the Wickednefs of the Wicked fhall be upon him.

The Servant which knew his Lord's Will, and did not according to it, fhall be beaten with many Stripes; but he that knew it not, and did Things worthy of Stripes, fhall be beaten with few Stripes. For unto whom foever much is given, of him fhall much be required.

• It fhall be more tolerable in the Day of Judgment for fome than for others; and they that have been more corrupted in all their Ways than others, fhall receive greater Damnation.

» What shall we fay then? Is God unrighteous that taketh Vengeance? God forbid: For then how fhall God judge the World? Surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert Judgment.

He is juft in all that is brought upon us. He will not lay upon Man more than right, that he fhould enter into Judgment with God.

That be far from him, to flay the Righteous with the Wicked; and that the Righteous fhould be as the Wicked, that be far from him. Shall not the Judge of all the Earth do right?

Is it good that he fhould opprefs and fhine upon the Counsel of the Wicked? God forbid.

There is no Iniquity with the Lord our God, nor refpect of Perfons, nor taking of Gifts. He regardeth not Perfons, nor taketh Reward.

He accepteth not the Perfons of Princes; nor regardeth the Rich more than the Poor: For they are all the Work of his Hands.

God is no Refpecter of Perfons, but in every Nation he that feareth him, and worketh Righteousness, is accepted with him. And if he maketh them that have wrought but one Hour, equal to thofe which have borne the Burden and Heat of the Day, is it not lawful for him to do what he will with his own?

• Shall mortal Man be more just than God? Is not my Way equal, faith the Lord? Are not your Ways unequal? Wilt thou difannul my Judgment? Wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayeft be righteous?

If

If one Man fin against another, the Judge fhall judge him; but if a Man fin against the Lord, who fhall intreat for him?

His TRUTH and FAITHFULNESS.

God is true. He is the God of Truth. Juft and true are thy Ways, thou King of Saints.

a

His Words are true; and his Counfels are Faithfulness and Truth. The Word that he fhall fpeak fhall come to pafs; he will fay the Word, and will perform it.

He is the Faithful God, which keepeth Covenant and Mercy with them that love him, and keep his Commandments.

He is Faithful who has promifed: For all his Promises are Yea and Amen.

He keepeth Truth for ever. He hath remembred the Word which he commanded to a thousand Generations. Thy Word, O Lord, is true from the Beginning; and thy Truth endureth for ever. For ever, O Lord, thy Word is fettled in Heaven; and thy Faithfulness is unto all Generations.

f The Lord hath done that which he had devifed: He hath fulfilled his Word that he had commanded in the Days of old; there failed not aught of any good Thing which the Lord had fpoken; all came to pass.

Heaven and Earth fhall pafs away, but his Words fhall not pass away; neither thall there fail one Word of all his good Promise.

He also is wife, and will bring Evil, and will not call back his Words.

His Covenant will he not break, nor alter the Thing that is gone out of his Lips.

* Our Labour, fhall not be in vain in the Lord: For he hath faid, I will never leave thee, nor forfake thee.

The Lord is not flack concerning his Promife, as fome Men count Slackness.

m God is not a Man, that he should lie: neither the Son of Man, that he fhould repent. Let God be true, but every Man a Liar.

If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful; he cannot deny himfelf. It is impoffible for God to lie.

Hath he faid, and fhall he not do it? Or hath he fpoken, and fhall he not make it good? I have spoken it, (faith the Lord) I will alfo bring it to pafs; I have purpofed it, I will alfo do it: I will not repent; neither will I turn back from it. I. ..

God is pure, and every Word of God is pure.
Holy and Reverend is his Name.

s The Lord is righteous in all his Ways, and holy in all his Works.

The Law of God is holy; and his Commandments are holy, and juft, and good.

[ocr errors]

Thou only, O Lord, art holy.

w There is none holy as the Lord. Who is like unto thee, O Lord, glorious in Holiness?

* Behold, he putteth no Truft in his Saints; yea, the Heavens are not clean in his Sight.

y Far be it from God, that he fhould do Wickedness, and from the Almighty, that he fhould commit Iniquity. God cannot be tempted with Evil, neither tempteth he any Man.

Why fay ye, every one that doth Evil is good in the Sight of the Lord, and he delighteth in them? He is not a God that hath Pleasure in Wickedness, neither fhall Evil dwell with him. He is of purer Eyes than to behold Evil, and cannot look on Iniquity; the Foolifh fhall not ftand in his Sight, he hateth all Workers of Iniquity.

a The Way of the Wicked, the Thoughts of the Wicked, the Sacrifice and Prayer of the Wicked, are an Abomination to the Lord.
