THE death of Dr. CHANDLER having prevented his publishing this work himself, it is proper to inform the world, that the whole, excepting the five last sheets, was printed in his lifetime, and that these were prepared by him for the press. In this work the Doctor, omitting every thing of personal controversy, hath applied himself to settle the chronology of the chief events of the reign of king David, to vindicate the character of this prince, and the Scripture account of the dispensations of Divine Providence towards him, against the unjust aspersions and unreasonable cavils of Mr. Bayle and others, and to throw light on the Psalms which relate to the character, actions, and circumstances of this prince. His illustration of the 68th Psalm, not to mention others, is a striking proof of his uncommon genius and learning as a Scripture critic. And it is presumed the whole will be read with pleasure and improvement by impartial inquirers after truth, and yield great and rational satisfaction to the friends of revelation and genuine piety.
