BLESSED are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. S. Matth. v.

The General Confession to be said by the whole Family, kneeling, the Master first saying,

Let us acknowledge and confess our manifold sins, to the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same.

ALMIGHTY and most merciful Father; We have erred and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against thy holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; And we have done those things which we ought not to have done; And there is no health in us. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare thou them, O God, which confess their faults. Restore thou them that are penitent; According to thy promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesu our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake; That we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, To the glory of thy holy Name. Amen,

For Pardon.

GOD, whose nature and property is ever to have mercy and to forgive, receive our humble petitions; and though we be tied and bound with the chain of our sins, yet let the pitifulness of thy great mercy loose us; for the honour of Jesus Christ, our Mediator and Advocate. Amen.

Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.

¶Then the Lord's Prayer, to be said by all.

OUR Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will

be done in earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, The power and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.

Then may be said,

O Lord, open thou our lips.

And our mouth shall shew forth thy praise. O thou, who on the second day didst create the firmament of heaven, the heavens, and heavens of heavens:

Glory be to thee, O Lord.

Then, all standing up,

O come let us sing unto the Lord, let us heartily rejoice in the God of our salvation.

Let us come before his presence with thanksgivings, and shew ourselves glad in him with Psalms.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be; world without end. Amen.

Then may be said or sung a Psalm-Psalms 48, 72, 85, 96, 97, 98, are appropriate. Proper Psalms for Fasts, Festivals and other occasions, are pointed out in the Second Part.

After the Psalm a Lesson.

Then the following Canticle, or a Hymn may be said or sung. Te Deum Laudamus.

WE praise thee, O God: we acknowledge

thee to be the Lord.

All the earth doth worship thee: the Father everlasting.

To thee all Angels cry aloud the Heavens and all the Powers therein.

To thee Cherubin, and Seraphin: continually do cry,

Holy, Holy, Holy: Lord God of Sabaoth; Heaven and earth are full of the Majesty of thy Glory.

The Glorious company of the Apostles thee.

praise

The goodly fellowship of the Prophets : praise thee.

The noble army of Martyrs praise thee. The holy Church throughout all the world doth acknowledge thee;

The Father of an infinite Majesty ;

Thine honourable, true : and only Son;
Also the Holy Ghost: the Comforter. (Continued
at page 43.)

Then the Apostles' Creed, except when the Nicene or
Athanasian Creeds (pages 4 and 7) are said.

BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth:

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, Born of the Virgin Mary, Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead and buried, He descended

into hell; The third day he rose again from the dead, He ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost; The Holy Catholic Church; The Communion of Saints; The Forgiveness of sins; The Resurrection of the body, And the life everlasting. Amen.

Afterwards, all kneeling, the following Prayers;
the Master first saying,

The Lord be with you;

And with thy spirit.
Let us pray,

For Christ's Holy Catholic Church, for the Queen and all in authority, for all Bishops, Priests, and Deacons, for those who are over us in the Lord, for ourselves, for all children, [especially those of this family,] for all absent friends*, for the poor and the afflicted*, for who ask or specially need the prayers of the our enemies, for those that are in family."

*Here mention any

error, and for all sorts and conditions of men. Lord, shew thy mercy upon us.

And grant us thy salvation.

O Lord, save the Queen.

And mercifully hear us when we call upon thee.
Endue thy Ministers with righteousness.
And make thy chosen people joyful.

O Lord, save thy people.

And bless thine inheritance.

Then the Collect for the Day, and afterwards the Collects following. It would be well to omit the second of these Collects during Lent, or on those days on which some other special subject is remembered.

LORD, raise up (we pray thee) thy power, and come among us; and with great might succour us; that whereas, through our sins and wickedness, we are sore let and hindered in running the race that is set before us, thy bountiful grace and mercy may speedily help and deliver us; through the satisfaction of thy Son our Lord, to whom with thee and the Holy Ghost be honour and glory, world without end. Amen.

For the Renewal of the Spirit.

ALMIGHTY God, who hast given us thy only-begotten Son to take our nature upon him, and to be born of a pure Virgin; Grant that we being regenerate, and made thy children by adoption and grace, may daily be renewed by thy Holy Spirit; through the same our Lord Jesus Christ, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the same Spirit, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

For Help during the Week.

PREVENT us, O Lord, in all our doings with thy most gracious favour, and further us with thy continual help; that in all our works begun, continued and ended in thee, we may glorify thy holy Name, and finally by thy mercy obtain everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

If there are any Prayers or Thanksgivings proper for the Day, they may be inserted here, or substituted for one or more of those that follow.

TA Shorter general form of Intercession will

Family and occasional Intercessions and Prayers
